Bristol Palin getting $14K for speech

Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Alaska Governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is scheduled to speak at the Louisville Marriott Downtown on behalf of Lifehouse, a home for single mothers in Louisville Kentucky. According to a report by the Louisville Courier-Journal, Palin will be paid $14,000 to speak for the group - less than Laura Ingraham, whom the group also considered as a potential speaker.

Palin, 19, is a single mother whose pregnancy was followed widely during the 2008 presidential campaign. She gave birth to her son, Tripp, in December of that year and has been in a high-profile on-again-off-again relationship with Tripp's father, Levi Johnston.

This is not the first of Palin's public appearances. She is a Teen Ambassador for the Candie's Foundation, an organization dedicated to encouraging teens to delay pregnancy. In that capacity, Palin also appeared on an episode of the ABC Family television show, Secret Life of the American Teenager.

My guess is that on both the Beck and Palin refrigerators is a magnet sign that says,

$14k for a speech? If I were Levi, I would be asking for a review of that child support order now that she is going to be making big bucks.

Bristol can speak about how to get knocked up and reclaim your virginity. Like mother like daughter. Both preaching about not having premarital sex but both being so horny they could not wait. Sarah got knocked up and then ran off to get married. LOL.

Whoa - you're forgetting your narative about yourselves ... the swing voters and moderates are leaving Democrats in droves for these very reasons.

I tell you "white people" you have it made! If this young lady was African American, she would not be paid one cent to speak anywhere and white people would just sum her up as another black child who came from a broken home who just happens to have a baby, big deal. White people and their double standards.

Bristol Palin is just a joke--she gets paid $14,000 to tell other teen mothers not to waste their energy getting an education or being a good mother. Bristol can be a role model to them: her message is make big money by becoming an actress, doing the talk shows and selling your personal business to the tabloids, and demand high fees for speaking engagements. She does not have any love whatsoever for her child (it's easy to hire nannies) and her motivation and true love is for the Almighty Dollar. It's all about MONEY and CELEBRITY STATUS and just do whatever you can to keep on the gravy train. Only wimps worry about things like integrity and morals and feelings and being truthful and being a friend and being true to yourself. This is bullcrap and Bristol will tell these young gals that you can do or say anything, and money will come flowing your way. The Palins don't care what you think about how they behave--this is a dog eat dog world and people do not like the Palins and think they are the Family of Greed and just a joke, but who cares? Bristol has made about 1/2 million from all her "photo shoots" and interviews and her contacting the tabloids on a daily basis to tell them all the Palin family's dirty little secrets. They only had to fool one charity into giving Bristol $14,000 to speak--and she really hasn't achieved anything to brag about--but that one person decided that it was more important to reward Bristol with $14,000 than to spend the money on the stated mission of the charity. Contributions are getting slimmer with our economy, and the only way this charity will get the message that this was a poor decision about what to do with donations is if the general public refuses to blindly hand more money over to this spokesman. Fool me once--shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me! And the Palins are laughing all the way to the Bank.

Nothing like rewarding the ignorant. Seems to run in the family.
Resign the most powerful elected position in the Alaskan government and be rewarded for it..?? How disgusting can people be? If I were a citizen of Alaska I would be seriously offended and insulted. Your reason and excuse for resigning wouldn't float with me. Neither would the special interest masque Sara uses to promote herself with.
Why would anyone resign the position of governor? Unless, they weren't capable of performing the necessary academic procedures necessary to promote the progress and upkeep of the office and resigned to avoid the embarrassment of her failure?

This is just the disgusting example of why so many normally charitable folks close their already lean pocketbooks when caring and sharing turns into a THREE RING CIRCUS.

The following is taken unedited directly from the Lifehouse Center website at www.lifehousecenter.org/help.htm:

[quote] "You Can Help

Many babies will live and future families be transformed because of the Lifehouse.

We have many volunteer opportunities to garden, decorate, teach and respond to calls from women in need of support and care.

Your cash contributions will be used to support daily operations. All financial donations are tax deductible and can be sent to:

My last words are that Miss Palin has every right to live the kind of life that she wants for herself and her own pursuit of happiness within the framework of law. However, for her to come forward as a model for the women that Lifehouse purports to rescue, is pure hypocrisy and a stab-in-the-back for those who have sacrificed, shared and cared to support Lifehouse in the past.

THREE RING CIRCUS is my personal acronym for Tireless, Hysterical, Raffish, Enzootic Exponents of Relentless Inventions of Nonsense that Gruelingly Causes Intelligent Reasoning to Collapse Under Stress.

Here is a high school dropout or graduate who is going to be speaking to single mother's as if she is a shining example of responsibility? This is nuts. Her parents are irresponsible for not teaching her about birth control and risking her to a full-term pregnancy. Fortunately the child was born without defects. I'm sorry, but this family is precisely what is wrong with America today.

And here I thought this was listed in my email as being about the Obama presidency. It must mean that Obama isn't doing anything good today and they need to hold the news away from the public. So, while Obama is away, the WaPo decides to run a minor story on someone getting paid for taking a speaking fee. So what if she is getting paid.

She is getting paid for the speech because she has a name which is recognized nationwide and has the experience of what happens when you do make that mistake of getting pregnant in the first place. What she has done right is to have the child and raise it after the mistake. See, she is living up to her responsibilities as a mother while trying to convince others to not make that same mistake.

Unlike the many detractors on here who call names such as trailer trash, etc, and want nothing but to disparage good people, some try to look at the good things people do. I suggest that when you live in a fishbowl so to speak with a writer living next door, constant pressure of the press with their stupid stories and then the idiots making their comments on forums such as these, you just might get a bit testy.

In the end, this is only a story because of the Palin name and the democrats animosity toward them. Journolist should be proud of the majority of posters here.

2) Wouldn't the money have been better spent elsewhere, like actually helping people?

3) Like mother, like wh_re. (speaking fees for knowing nothing)

4) Tripp? She named her child "Tripp"? What a messed up family. All of the children sound like druggies and gun nuts from their names.

We are talking about Bristol Palin. Were we talking about Al Gore we would be talking about a someone who has spent most of his life engaged in public policy issues. You may disagree with where he stands (and I'll assume you do) but you'd have a hard time arguing that when he speaks he has a pretty good command of what he is speaking about.

Bristol Palin? What are her credentials? The only thing she's proven so far is her fertility.

The Palin circus continues. Last week the Palins tried to push around a teacher from Homer, Alaska who posted a sign on private property about "The Worst Governor Ever." Sarah mocked this woman (and all teachers) in her sing-song childish voice about being HONORED that she was considered a celebrity and HONORED that the teacher thought she should have served her full term as Governor. Only Sarah or an idiot would think that this lady was a fan of Palin's. Todd and the body guard kept trying to intimidate and block the camera person; and the Palin's daughter even got into the act, calling the camera person an A.hole and yelling TEACH, you're just jealous! Not exactly the find of classy behavior that we want our young, pregnant unmarried moms to admire.

Now the internet is lit up again with the Palins' antics. Go to Sarah Palin--Valdez airport. A guy named Hawk is at the airport, seeing his wife off from Valdez. He sees the Palins there and takes a video. They see him and in a paranoid manner, ask him who he is and what he is doing. He tells them his name and Sarah wants to know all about where he lives and works etc.-like he doesn't belong at HER airport. He explains that he is there to see his wife off and then he saw them and wanted to take a picture. Like junior high kids, the two Palins whip out their own cameras like DimWit and Dumbo and start filming and firing questions his way. Todd tries to intimidate him--and then the Palin continue into the airport, demanding attention from complete strangers and asking them if they want to have their picture taken with Sarah. Clearly a little game to make Hawk feel like he is dirt. A little later, Todd goes up to Hawk again and tries to pick a fight. Instead, Hawk takes his camera out again and records what Todd is saying. Todd asks him why his hands are so shakey, almost making fun of him as if he has Parkinsons. Later it turns out that this man's wife and Sarah are seated on the plane together, and Sarah will not have any of this: she asks fellow FOX reporter Greta to change seats with her. Palins come across like complete jerks--they have a sense of entitlement like they are celebrities and rich and everyone should treat them like America's Royal Family. Disgusting family. And this is the 19 year old that should be a role model for the young people at this charity????

Poor, little "white trash" Bristol Palin, only getting $14,000 for a her public talk. Too bad she hasn't "moved on up to the east side ..." like the President and the First Family. Consider the Obamas' fun family vacation with doggie Bo this week at Martha's Vinyard -- $35,000 to $50,000 for a seven relaxing days at the mansion alone, and let's not forget the $11,000 per hour for Air Force One to get them there and back. Oh, you say, that's ok because Obama is the President. Well consider this: In 2002, the year before Obama launched his U.S. Senate campaign, the couple reported income of $259,394 and $1,050 in deductions for gifts to charity, below the national average of $1,872. Now isn't that nice?

The Republicant hypocrits are all for the Palins, because she says publicly what they say behind closed doors.
They spout about family values and the tragedy of unwed mothers, except when it is one of theirs. Then she has a right to earn a living, because she's an unwed mother.
They cry about the rights of the unborn, then ignore the plight of children without health care.
They wax poetic about American values, and then vote to deny benefits to the spouses and children of those who died on 9/11.
They claim to be Christians, and then are intolerant of a community center being built 2 blocks from ground zero.
They wrap themselves in the flag, a gun in one hand, and the bible in the other, and talk about being a "real American".
Well, I'm an American, proud to be, but I'm ashamed of some of my countrymen. And I pity the Palin children, because they are being taught how to exploit their situations to make a living, rather than working towards their future.
Sarah Palin is leading them down a path to disaster. Just like a momma grizzly.

Unbelievable! I would think whoever made the decision to pay Bristol Palin $14,000 should be fired! Surely there must be a better use for this money--Bristol Palin is a teenager who is riding the gravy trail on her mother's coat tails, rather than accomplishing something on her own. Her game is to get all the media attention she can-do the talk shows-speaking engagements-photo ops--sue her boy friend for a percentage of his future income--but take no steps whatsoever to improve herself as a person: she is not taking further schooling; not working in the medical office; has publicity agents and photographers to contact the media on a daily basis to sell the Palin soap opera/reality show to the tabloids. This is not the message that other pregnant unwed mothers can relate to! How to be a grifter; how to make up stories so that you can do all the talk shows and sell your pictures to the tabloids about how you are re-engaged--Bristol is interested in being a celebrity and making a lot of money off of donations and using the Palin name. Spoiled little rich girl who owns her own condo, a Cadillac Escalade and a truck; travels in a limo and by private jet and is underage but gets into the night clubs; known as being the Wasilla party girl who does drugs and alcohol and whose baby is a "mistake" and is being raised by nannies. Whoever made the decision that Bristol would be a good role model for the pregnant girls is either very, very naive or is a relative of Sarah Palin and is taking some money from the Palins for giving Bristol a chance to promote herself. Any possible donor should find another place to donate their money--this place doesn't have a clue how to spend the money they have been given to help these pregnant girls. Talk to the school counselors--there must be some girl somewhere in the state of Tennessee who is an unwed teenage mother who is sacrificing now so that she and her child will have a better life and who could give this speech. This is the type of encouragement and motivation that these girls need--not how to be a grifter and to learn how rich girls mooch off of other people and get on the gravy train because their parent is well known. Sarah Palin is a bitter, caustic, negative, divisive, polarizing speaker--and Bristol will only parrot her political comments. What will unwed teenage mothers gain from Bristol's $14,000 speech? Is the goal of this Agency to teach these young people to be pit bulls and parasites? Use some common sense--CANCEL THIS INAPPROPRIATE SPEAKER!

John McCain is to blame for this family fiasco. He foisted the Palin family upon the country and it looks like we are never going to be rid of this horde of parasites. With Levi now running for Mayor of Wasilla and Bristol giving speeches on how to be a teenage mother will we have Piper out giving speeches on how to be a middle school fashion plate next? These people are all ignorant, uneducated loud mouths who have nothing on which to base their opinions. Why can't we just stop talking about them and perhaps they will fade into memory in time? I am sick of this whole bunch. They have no shame and obviously are not embarrassed by anything. Why in the world would anyone pay them to speak? A group might as well pick someone off the street to speak and pay them $50 and the enlightment would be just as good.

She like her child's father are both of limited mental and cognitive capacities with sig air in their heads it often appear - much like her mother and father to a degree. American politics is sad enough w/o this pathetic choice of a speaker of unwed mothers; although odds are that her talk will veer off into the Republican agenda, her mother, hunting the big bucks, her ex boyfriend/fiance' and her various role models in life - if she can remember and organize such a speech. Pathetic waste of money that truly should go to children and single mothers which Tennessee has its share. The Palin family unleashed upon America - our downfall!

It looks like the Momma Grifter (Sarah Palin) has successfully sired a new baby Momma Grifter in the form of daughter Bristol. Bristol Palin continues to be America's favorite illiterate, unemployed high school drop-out and unwed teenage mother and THE model for what all conservatives want their daughters to be.

I believe that the Republicans were applauding her for not using birth control, not having an abortion and keeping her child. By the way, the word "bastard" is no longer a legal definition in many countries. All children are legitimate. What can a young girl say that is worth a $14,000 fee? She's barely experienced life. All she can do is reinforce her compliance with Republican "values".

JenPost:

Have you actually heard Bristol Palin speak on camera? She sounds exactly like what you'd expect---an under-educated young girl trying to act older and more intelligent than she really is. Her conversation is a rambling collection of nonsense.
She'd be better off if she had kept her zipper closed until she got married. No one should be paying her any amount of money for her to glorify her foolish actions.

How would you like to grow up and learn that your mom financially profited by calling you 'a mistake'? Bristol Palin should be embarrassed by this, but she seems to be incredibly proud of prostituting herself and her son. I find that to be a shameful display of child abuse.

His deal is with a network. And while he's announced he's running for mayor, his name isn't registered with the clerk's office so no one knows what party if any he's running on.

But I'll give him this. He's going after a real job [As much as Mayor of Wasilla can be a real job.] While Bristol runs around getting speaking fees at $14K a pop telling teens how awful it is to get pregnant before your married. Or maybe she's going to preach to stick with oral sex before marriage.

Wow. Lots of racism, hatred and judgement here. Calling a young lady "white trash" and her child a "bastard." What's wrong with you people? Go get a job instead of sitting on the internet all day thinking up nasty things to say about people. Oh wait. I'm sorry. It's the Obama economy and finding a job isn't an option. Carry on, then, carry on.

I recall the old days when conservatives blasted away at Murphy Brown for choosing to have a child and how immoral that was.

Now they pay speaking fees to a teen who gets knocked up and drops out of school. They give her a standing ovation at the Republican Convention. A Republican family values lesson to teens every where.

So you have been warned. Forget your snickering at Sarah Palin's daughter, wake up and smell the coffee.

I thought the press release reported a few months ago that Bristol was charging $15,000 to $30,000 per speech. So she had to settle for less? Will her speech be longer than momma's? Will she pretend to be the spoiled diva her momma tries to be?

Preachin' abstinence to other young girls . . . .Ain't that kinda hard to do when you've not lived by the words you're preachin'? Just like momma?

It's gonna be funny when Bristol announces outside of marriage pregnancy #2, especially if she does it during one of her 'speeches'. Wonder if her water will break while she's on stage, but she'll think people 'need' to hear her 'speech' before she goes to the hospital. Just like momma. Then she'll dump the kid off with daddy, while she's out 'telling the world how to be a great mom'. Just like her momma.

As to your comment: My father fought in 3 wars (WWII, Korea and Vietnam), lived through the depression helping support his family, raised four children (none on welfare or drugs), retired from the Army after 26 years, started a few businesses of his own before finally retiring for good. I think Bristol's real message is how to get yourself knocked up at age seventeen while Mommy is so busy hustling money and celebrity and make it profitable. This organization should be ashamed of paying this little sleazebag a nickel for promoting shacking up as a teenager, not learning any kind of lesson, repeating shacking up after moving out of Mommy's house, and then claiming her baby-daddy is a publicity seeker.
I know women with children born out of wedlock and they are not promoting it for anyone's pleasure like Bristol and Palin are. These women are working hard, raising their child and doing it silently. The entire Palin family are snake-oil salesmen and there isn't a "Christian" among them. Palin has nothing to crow about in her ability to instill values into her kids when clearly she hasn't.
