Obama touts positive Iraq news in radio address

By Anne E. Kornblut

Facing bleak developments on multiple fronts, President Obama is turning his attention to an unlikely source of positive news: Iraq.

Obama will deliver a major address to the nation on Tuesday night highlighting his campaign promise to bring the war to a close. "As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war. As president, that is what I am doing," Obama said in his weekly address, setting the stage for next week's speech. He said the United States is taking "an important step forward" as the last combat brigades leave the country, saying it will "mark the end of America's combat mission in Iraq."

For Obama, the shift to Iraq is an effort to celebrate good news. With little more than two months until the midterm elections, there has been a steady drumbeat of negative economic developments -- including a slumping housing market, stalled business spending and, on Friday, an announcement that the economy had grown more slowly this spring than anticipated.

Obama, vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, released a taped address that focused on the needs of veterans returning from the war. He will also travel to Fort Bliss, Texas -- home of the 1st Armored Division -- on Tuesday to meet with troops, including some who will have an ongoing role in Iraq despite the official end to combat. Tens of thuosands of U.S. troops are still in Iraq, a fact that critics on both sides of the ideological spectrum have said undercuts the argument that the war is ending.

At the same time, Iraq remains a political mess. No government has been formed in the five months since elections were held and there are still outbreaks of deadly violence, though fewer than there were before the surge began three years ago.

Still, Obama embraced the positive steps -- and his own role in making good on a campaign pledge.

"We have brought home more than 90,000 troops since I took office. We have closed or turned over to Iraq hundreds of bases. In many parts of the country, Iraqis have already taken the lead for security," Obama said. "In the months ahead, our troops will continue to support and train Iraqi forces, partner with Iraqis in counterterrorism missions, and protect our civilian and military efforts.

"But the bottom line is this: the war is ending. Like any sovereign, independent nation, Iraq is free to chart its own course. And by the end of next year, all of our troops will be home," Obama said. "As we mark the end of America's combat mission in Iraq, a grateful nation must pay tribute to all who have served there. Because part of responsibly ending this war is meeting our responsibility to those who have fought it."

Obama was against the Iraq War for political expediency. Ditto for the Surge. After he won, what did he do?

He promoted Gen. "Surge"

Oh, but if only Saddam Hussein was still alive!
I'm sure Barack Hussein would have apologized and given him the Keys back!

But, Why is The Anti-Christ Obama Destroying America. If you truly want to know what is going on; Then you will have to accept these things as the TRUTH. Once you understand the following things; All things will be understood. So I tell you Obama is Satan on Earth, Lawless One, or what ever else you want to call this Demonic Figure. His words describe him, He is a False Hope, If you listen to him you will love him. He carries a Bow without an Arrow. He will conquer all through his speech, his false hoods will capture all who sit and listen to him.
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

After laboring feverishly during his brief stint in the U.S. Senate to engineer an American defeat in Iraq; and, to scuttle President Bush's planned troop surge that has brought a victorious conclusion to the Iraqi conflict, Obama now contemptuously attempts to claim credit for the successful U.S. combat forces withdrawal on the BUSH timetable, a timetable that BUSH had negotiated with the Iraqi leadership. The only sustentative achievement which has conveniently occurred during the Obama tenure. Obama is a despicable farce of a man who if he had even a remote sliver of common decency would give an Oval Office address to the Nation lauding the foresight and determination of his predecessor, George W. Bush, in achieving victory in Iraq. A foresight that Obama and other left-wing defeatists such as Harry Reid and his own VP were totally devoid of. 2010, followed by 2012, have become the most important elections in American history. If left unrestrained, Obama, rather thru sheer incompetence or willful intention, will do irreparable harm to America's economic, and National Security interests. Greg Neubeck
