Glenn Beck launches conservative news site The Blaze

By Matt DeLong

Conservative Fox News host Glenn Beck, a frequent critic of the mainstream news media, has launched his own news site, The Blaze. The site appears to be modeled after The Huffington Post and not surprisingly, features stories with a conservative bent about some of Beck's favorite issues, such as faith, terrorism, the imam behind the planned Islamic community center in New York City and Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

The site, which went live sometime Monday, features a welcome message from the man himself, timestamped just before midnight Tuesday:

If you are like me, watching the news or reading the paper can be an exercise in exasperation. It's so hard to find a place that helps me make sense of the world I see.

Too many important stories are overlooked. And too many times we see mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas. Not that you've ever heard me complain about the media before. Okay, maybe once or twice.

But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website -- The Blaze. And we moved fast. We built the team and the site in just two months.

What was the overlooked story that Beck chose to lead with in the inaugural edition? Education Secretary Arne Duncan's alleged encouragement of Education Department employees to attend the Rev. Al Sharpton's Saturday counter-rally, at which Duncan spoke.

Some of the reporters Beck hired have previously written for well-known conservative publications and sites, including The American Spectator and Townhall.com.

Beck isn't the first to launch a conservative news site apparently modeled on the reporting infrastructure of the left, which includes The Huffington Post and Talking Points Memo.Tucker Carlson's site, The Daily Caller, launched earlier this year.

Beck's message did not mention the source of the Web site's funding.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for the second coming of the National Review here! I just wish we could hear what William F. I see that CEO's are sitting on trillions of dollars in cash but won't hire. And you want to blame Obama for that. You're retarded, that's why we don't see the world as you do.

Posted by: jakemehoffer | August 31, 2010 11:14 AM |

------
To jakemehoffer:
Retarded? I beg to differ. As many have pointed out in financial publications, including The Wall Street Journal, companies are sitting on cash because of widespread uncertainty. When interviewed, CEOs note the uncertainty relating to, among other things, the cost of complying the with new health care law, potential tax increases (income and employment) and the likelihood of a double dip recession. Let me ask you. What are households doing? Increasing savings, cutting expenses and preserving precious cash to deal with the unknown. Why should companies behave any differently?

Neither the Left or the Right controls the MSM. It's controlled by CORPORATIONS. All they care about is PROFITS. They don't care about news or truth. For that you have to read foreign papers, alternative websites, and listen to watchdog groups. If you think Glennie isn't in it for the money, you weren't listening to him. He should do his praying in his church and stop telling us what religion we are supposed to believe in. Glenn contradicts himself continuously. Last year he wanted a civil war, this year he wants a country based on religion and peace instead of the constitution. Does he want to cut the Pentagon budget in his peaceful war...heck no. Religious freedom to Glennie is only for Christians. Hypocrite or serial con man? You be the judge.

Irony seems to be lost on some. The man/woman who both recently scuffed dust up about a Mosque desecrating Ground Zero (from its current two-block site, a few blocks more, many blocks more, another continent) while simultaneously professing to be literalist interpreters of Constitutional rights -- those very same amazingly obtuse or amazingly devious people turn around and slyly trample on / desecrate memories of one of the most stirring, most inclusive American speeches ever. Can you say publicity gig for the BLAZE-ingly fools-gold blog? Can you hear the jingle as the moneybags are filled by the gullible right?

And for those who think the media is leftist leaning, that's ascribing liberalism and progressive behavior to the owners of all three major broadcast networks: General Electric (NBC) who supplies arms among other endeavors, Disney (ABC), Sumner Redstone / Viacom (CBS). Whoa!...LOL. I wouldn't blame Rupert the Murdoch (Fox and all kinds of "liberal" newspapers) for crying foul that only he takes lumps for being conservative.

"If you’re a fan of Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, try reading a few columns on the Huffington Post website."

So said President Barack Obama in his commencement address to the University of Michigan 2010 graduates Saturday.

"If we choose only to expose ourselves to opinions and viewpoints that are in line with our own, studies suggest that we will become more polarized, more set in our ways," ironically said the President.

"But if we choose to actively seek out information that challenges our assumptions and our beliefs, perhaps we can begin to understand where the people who disagree with us are coming from."

Obama then gave some examples to the audience (video follows - courtesy The Right Scoop - with transcript and commentary, h/t our old friend Ian Schwartz, photo courtesy AP):

They do not represent the great majority of Americans who define themselves as Conservative.

Do you know that for the first time in American History Obama has sent a Human Rights Violations Report to the UN about the USA?
The UN the corrupt bastion of Dictatorships with the worst Human rights violation.
In it he lauds himself for suing Arizona about Illegal Aliens.

I've never voted for a Democrat. There have been good people running as Dems. but I am now, and have always been conservative, and I have never been able to reconcile my political views with the Left. But, I think Glenn Beck is overmatched against any one with opposing political views except, maybe, Al Sharpton.
In November, we (Republicans) need candidates and spokespeople who can rally a much wider base than either Beck or Limbaugh can. They target the easily led, not the independent thinkers. We're going to miss the boat again, if we, the Republican Party, do not present a well thought out agenda, that does not smack of knee jerk politics and, that actuallly offers viable alternatives to the dysfunctional government we now have in Washington. To be honest, we have some LU-LUs(Quale, Paul, Angle,to name three) running for important seats in both the Senate and House. 320,000,000 people in this country, and we can't do better than this?

This is welcome news. Love GB's show on Fox, this sounds like just more of it. There seem to be people out there who are still convinced that the mainstream media isn't biased, whereas Fox et al, are. Well, when Al Sharpton's rally was just reported as going on, but Beck's was, according to NBC, "not without controversy," that's a bias. When, during the 2000 Presidential campaign, the MSM reported Al Gore's ideas as "bold," but Bush's tax plan as "controversial" and "risky," that's a bias. Oh, I know I'm wasting my time trying to convince liberals out there with their fingers in their ears singing "la-la-la" like bratty children. I don't really care what they think. I'm more concerned with the majority of the electorate that is increasingly abandoning the bloated nanny state model of the Democrats in favor of constitutionally limited government. From the looks of it, 8/28 was the just the beginning. Apparently, a generation's worth of liberal historical revisionism, which by turns attempted to convince Americans that our Founding Fathers were nothing but a bunch of racist, misogynistic homophobes, or else completely atheist, has failed. The Beck haters probably never even watch his show. It's less fire-and-brimstone and more Civics 101. That people now have to turn to a private news program to get what's not being taught in school, is pretty damning. No wonder the lead story was about the Secy of Education!

God wants you to put another dollar in (Glenn's) basket!

Forbes: "With a deadpan, Beck insists that he is not political: "I could give a flying crap about the political process." Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. "We're an entertainment company," Beck says. He has managed to monetize virtually everything that comes out of his mouth."

Lol. My favorite part about Beck is how his followers are incensed by the opposition. Its like fuel to the Beck money-making machine. Why would he stop?

Step 1. Beck unveils some conspiracy that frightens his viewers and contradicts statements he made mere weeks ago.

Step 2. Beck convinces frightened followers that only Glenn Beck can lead them out of the morass

Step 3. Beck provides an outlet for these newly frightened dollars to hide.

Step 4. MASSIVE profits for Mr. Beck.

Step 5. Repeat steps 1-4.

Step 6. Repeat steps 1-4.

Step 7. Repeat steps 1-4.

Step 8...

Beck's site would not be necessary if the Post and other mainstream media outlets actually reported the news without an agenda.

The balkanization of the media into liberal and conservative "versions" of the news will only exacerbate the discord in politics. Sure, it will sell some newspapers or webspace, but it will eventually set the mainstream media into a death spiral, which is appropriate comeuppance for those who created the problem in the first place.

To the writer Matt Delong-
News is neither conservative nor is it liberal. When you write conservative news site-you are participating in propaganda because ,again, there is no such thing. Suprised to have to mention that to a journalist. I find it rather amazing how conservative white people can just make up any type of argument, rule, logic or lie that suits them, but where the tenets of Journalism are concerned, if this is allowed "conservative news site" then what's the point of journalism, what does it mean and how will it be able to be qualified as fair, balanced and truthful?

From where I sit, conservative whites have complained about some nonsense called a liberal media because a conservative bombthrowers like Sarah Palin don't like having to answer for their words and ideas. Conservatives such as Sharron Angle wish the "media would ask questions we want to answer".
I will never underestimate the willingness of far too many whites to believe lies-it's a serious moral failing in a race of humans that I have deep respect for, with respect their intelligence, logic and ability to be reasonable and rational.

I believe it's tied in with Christianity.

Of the entire white race in America, conservative whites are the worst. They wish to believe lies(ie,President Obama is a Muslim),their own version of history(somehow white conservatives believe that fighting to secede from the US because of slavery is noble and not what it truly was-Acts of Traitors.
So they want to have an entire media apparatus that doesn't challenge their lying version of history and reality.

The thing is Matt Delong, as a journalist, you should know better than to participate in propaganda or the Washington Post should terminate your job.
Oh and don't hand me that "I'm a blogger" bull$... either-even bloggers can be both full-fledged propagandists.

Gallup has Republicans with a 10 point lead over Dems, the largest on record.

Pretty good turn around for gun-clinging, ignorant, racist astroturf.

If Dems are as intelligent as they believe themselves to be, how did they get in the position of losing Independents and being blown out of power?

Seems if you're that smart, it would be easy to convince the rubes to vote for your agenda.

Much easier than it would be for idiots like Sarah Palin, right?

Try this on for size:

Liberals are actually the fools, a fractional minority whose arrogance and extremism was their own undoing.

Bring on November!!!!

Isn't this in competition with his employer- Fox News? Maybe he's gonna start his own network. Actually I think he wants to get a few states to secede from the union to form a real America. But that's next.

One more of Beck's long list of delusions...

Conservative websites will never work as 98% of their core audience can't read. Radio and TV are the way to go. The fat man isn't going anywhere. And TV is already Beck's meal ticket.

Haha! Beck's site is full of nothing but comments on how wonderful Beck is, along with every conceivable slur against the president.

Not one post from any progressives or liberals -- not one. I guess they get censored.

At least the left-side sites like Huffington Post let people comment from both sides of the debates.

A one-sided propaganda and Beck worship site if there ever was one -- sheesh... the man's a living demon incarnate from hell. Amazing.
