Sarah Palin defends Dr. Laura

Talk host Dr. Laura Schlessinger decided to quit radio on Tuesday, after coming under fire for using the N-word repeatedly in a broadcast. "The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what is on my mind," she told Larry King.

On Wednesday, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin picked up on the story, encouraging Dr. Laura. She wrote on Twitter: "Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence"isn't American, not fair")." Later she added, "Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!"

After the N-word broadcast aired, Dr. Laura apologized for using the racial epithet. "I articulated the N-word all the way out -- more than one time," Schlessinger said. "And that was wrong. I'll say it again -- that was wrong." She said she "realized I had made a horrible mistake, and was so upset, I could not finish the show."

Palin is one of the biggest dolts in the history of America! The First Ammendment applies to government's restriction of speech! An employer may terminate for what is deemed inappropriate speech. The two issues are not the same. Palin is a moron!!!

Sarah Palin is defending Dr. Laura's use of the "n" word, is she?! You mean, the very same Sarah Palin who's spoken out on the issue before, declaring that anyone in public life who utters that word should be relieved of their duties?

Can someone PLEASE give this woman a copy of the dictionary page on which the word "hypocrite" is defined? For that matter, let's just send it to every right-wing politician and media bloviator out there!

Light Bearer. You are being disingenuous. If you, as a white person, called yourself, or a friend a Honky, you'd probably be doing it in a self-deprecating way, intending to be humorous and wouldn't be offended or expect the other white person to be offended. If, however, a black person called you 'Honky' I bet a thick wad of the folding stuff that you'd (at the least) be offended - and probably threatened. Try to put yourself in the other person's shoes.

The so called N word is no racial slur. It is more of a colloquialism derived from the word Negro which has its roots in the Latin word for the color black. If using the N word is a racial slur then referring to anyone by the shade of their skin color must also be a slur no matter what language the word for that color comes from. I should be totally offended if someone refers to me as a white man but for some reason I am not. Why? I am certainly of anglo-saxon descent but I am more of a pinkish tan color. Maybe I should be called pink skin as the blue skinned Andoreans did in some of the Star Trek episodes. Really, we should all just unbolt the chip on our shoulder about who we are as defined by our skin shade and get on with life. Do something loving and positive instead of spewing hatred. As Jesus of Nazereth once taught "Man is not defiled by what he puts in his mouth, but is defiled by what comes out of his mouth" The point being that what you eat for food does not make you a sinner, but the speech that comes out of your mouth does when it is hateful and vicious. Resist the urge to say hateful things and you will be a better person. Politics is no excuse for all the hateful talk I have seen here.

Again, the First Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

How exactly were "Dr." Schlessinger's (her doctorate, physiology, has nothing to do with her job as a radio personality) First Amendment rights being abridged? And this is the woman that the Right thinks is going to lead them back to a purer America; she doesn't even understand what that founders wrote.

She goes around huffing and puffing but when someone sits down to have a REAL DISCUSSION about real topics, she frets, she hesitates she has no idea how to respond and that is because everything she says is just rehearsed and scripted I feel sorry if this woman every runs for PResident and actually wins BUT WE as AMERIcANS hopefully know better than to elect someone as illiterate as she is..I HOPE....

Dr Laura should have quit a long time ago. She did not have the qualifications to dish out advice. At least the radio stations should have had a disclaimer that it was the opinions and advice of a amateur.

We are so concerned about being "politically correct" nowdays. Whatever you say can be misconstrued as offensive by someone. Should a so called celebrity be held to a higher standard than everyone else. NO. If that person is using slander in an offensive way on the airwaves, then YES. In the context of things, I don't think she was. But that said, I am tired of racism and/or religiousism (is that even a word?). People are people. We are all on this world together. Just get along. Help each other. If people are in trouble, lend a hand.

So silly and ignorant. A word is a word is a word. If a racial group refers to themselves in a "slanderous" way, why do they object to "the word" being used? Totally illogical. Perhaps the word should not be used at all --- isn't that a novel idea? Then "other, not allowed races" will not "repeat" "the word."
Posted by: pjcafe

Right on, PJCafe. White people never would have known that word existed if black people didn't keep using it.

All of the articles I've read seem to miss what I think is the most offensive aspect of Dr Laura's comments to the caller. In response to the caller's stated problem of having her in-laws calling her "the N-word", Dr Laura tells her she is hypersensitive and if she has no sense of humor, she shouldn't be in an interracial marriage. Even if the "N-word" had never been used, this would have been an offensive response by Dr Laura.

What's really ironic about this whole thing is if Sarah Palin listened to the advice that Dr. Laura spews out, she'd do nothing but stay home and take care of her kids and her husband. And, she'd admonish her, as a parent, for allowing her teenage daughter to get pregnant. Does she even understand the person she's standing behind? What an idiot...again.

Just a second thought upon reading some of these comments:
Why is there so much ad hominem attacking going on?
To delve into the pasts of either Palin or Dr. Laura is kind of the kitchen sink attack. If you cannot discredit someone based on the actual facts, then attack them on anything at all.

This is mountain out of molehill stuff that is being used to attack people -- here it is Palin and Dr. Laura. Our country has become increasingly divided on trivial incidents --- what happened??
What is this new change we were all looking forward to?

Perhaps we should stand back and look at who the real trouble-makers are -- They aren't Palin and Dr. Laura.......

Posted by: pjcafe | August 19, 2010 5:42 PM | Report abuse

I am definitely not a Dr. Laura fan; and, I am surprised that S. Palin would take the chance of alienating anyone by supporting Dr. Laura.
However, I was disappointed too that Dr. Laura took the brunt of all this. She said the "n" word; she said it several times. However, she was making a point that if anyone says it and is "allowed", then why can't everyone say it and be allowed??
I agree. I am tired of hearing the word. But when do we hear it? We hear it from African American rappers, actors, and anyone who "qualifies" as black.

Willie Brown while Speaker of the House in CA, repeatedly referred to Caucasians as "whitey" --- at one point, when a Brown supported candidate won, he said, "we showed whitey" -- it was on the tv news, etc. But there was no outrage.

The "usual suspects", i.e. Sharpton, et al, instantly appeared upon the scene with the Dr. Laura controversy, ready to get more TV time protesting the victimization of all black people. Excuse me???? This is the man who committed a criminal act of falsely accusing six white men of assaulting a black woman, T. Brawley.
Yet, he is given a platform to continue his "rage" while always "promoting" himself shamelessly.

I am happy Dr. Laura put a damper on Sharpton's attention getting devises by deciding to quit her radio job. No groveling for her. She apologized, sure, but for what? For using her free speech as some members of the black community do regularly?

What are the rules that we all need to know? Who can say what? Who can't? At what point does an entire racial group become a victim of a word uttered by someone of another racial group without "permission?" It is absurd and pathetic.

Again, Dr. Laura, thanks -- Sharpton has no excuse for another Imus type charade and tirade on national TV and in the papers.
Well done.

If Laura apologized why is she being so self-righteous now? Is she now saying she should not have apologized? In that case I bet she's seething that she apologized in the first place.

And what a dumb thing to attempt to be a martyr for -- for the right to say the n-word? This is your legacy to the cause?

The connection to the First Amendment that Sarah Palin and Dr. Laura have dreamed up here is baffling. The First Amendment protects your right to express yourself, without censorship by the federal government. It doesn't give you freedom from having anyone criticize you, nor an inalienable right to a lucrative radio contract.

That being said, I don't understand at all why this was posted under "44: Politics and Policy in Obama's Washington". It isn't about President Obama and it isn't about politics (and certainly not policy) in Washington. Sounds like the Washington Post needs to rethink its blog categories.

Dr. Laura did wander off in her bizarre, free-associating meltdown -- which was triggered by a black caller in an interracial marriage with a fairly normal, mundane question -- to point out that black voters voted overwhelmingly for Obama (as they did for Gore, Kerry, Mondale, et al., although I think that escaped her), but that particular Obama tie-in is not mentioned here.

It appears to me that Schlesinger wants to walk around babbling the "N" wors whenever, and wherever she wants. I don't know why she believes she is being held back from doing so on her own time, but when she's a paid radio personality, I assume she has some rules and guidelines she must adhere to. It was Schlesinger's prerogative to exercise her judgement of choice of words while on the air. It was her amazing cloddishness that caused the uproar. Please explain to me, based on all this logic, how in fact Sclesinger's first amendment rights were violated? Does she really believe she has the right to do whatever she pleases on public airwaves, and suffer no consequence for them? And does Palin now believe in socialist radio? The free market dealt Schlesinger her fate. No one took them from her.

Every time I hear that Republicans, and particularly Tea Party sympathizers, don't have a racist bone in their body and it's all a big slur, and I really start to feel that there is much to be said for that defense of their position and that for the most part they would never play the race card... there's yet another story like this. (Or like Rand Paul thinking that lunch counters, as private businesses, should be allowed to have an openly posted policy of not serving any black people, based on their skin color. WHAT?)

Why is Sarah Palin in favor of saying the n-word over and over and over to a caller who was calling with a normal, perfectly legitimate question about how to handle an issue in her marriage? Is she crazy?

Does Sarah Palin think the First Amendment means ordinary Americans aren't allowed to express their opinions of Dr. Laura and of Sarah Palin? Doesn't she know the First Amendment only restricts the government but doesn't muzzle the rest of us?

Does she have no brains or integrity at all?

Posted by: fairfaxvoter1 | August 19, 2010 3:56 PM | Report abuse

Apparently Dr. Laura doesn't understand the First Amendment. Since she wasn't censored by the government, her First Amendment right to say anything in public was actually upheld. The First Amendment doesn't guarantee you won't get any argument!

But in Dr. Laura and Sarah Palin's world, truly exercizing first amendment rights requires that those of us who disagree NOT exercise our first amendment rights. It's really quite simple if you just look at it from the perspective of these two ladies.

D. Laura Schlessinger characterized her radio show as a "moral health program".

Don't know about the moral part but she sure knows immoral:

- she was unfaithful in her first marriage having two affairs

- she caused the breakdown of her second husband's marriage

- she cohabitated with him while unmarried and intentionally conceived a child with him out of wedlock.

Dr. Laura lectured against infidelity, cohabitation, and intentional single-parenthood on her show, but never informed her listeners that these were part of her personal life experience.

Dr. Laura appears to be a quit and flip-flop when it benefits her career:

-she was an atheist before she wasn't

-she supported gay relationships before she didn't

-she preached about family values on her show but had not mourned the deaths of either of her parents because she had no emotional bond to them. She described her father as "petty, insensitive, mean, thoughtless, demeaning and downright unloving". Her mother, she said, had "pathological pride", "was never grateful and would always find something to criticize," and "constantly expressed disdain for men, sex and love".

How is it that she and Gingrich somehow never found each other?

I agree that Facebook and Twitter are poor forms of political discourse. Funny, though, that some are only offended when it is a conservative voice that uses these media, but when we have Democratic candidates using the various internet platforms the major media and pundits point to it as an example of 'vibrant' democracy.

Say it ain't so.

The whole N word thing was just Dr. Laura trying to attract some new listeners from the Aryan Nation movement. I guess it didn't work but you have to admire the effort.

The funny thing is, no one has ever lost money at radio by being too politically extreme. At the moment I'm sure the stations are searching for someone to the right of Dr. Laura, maybe someone like Beck who has quite the fascination with goose-steps and swastikas.

The good Doctor advised the woman she should not have entered into an interracial marriage if she was so "hypersensitive" about racial issues.

Then the good Doctor quits because she is criticized for making remarks so insensitive one would think she has been living in a cave for the last 50 years.

So the good Doctor feels fit to lecture against being hypersensitive using grossly insensitive remarks but quits in a snit because of her hypersensitivity to criticism.

It is no surprise the other Quitter of note would seek to exploit this latest Republican quitter.

When did the good Doctor forget the two basic teachings of good medical practice:

one of the principal precepts of medical ethics taught in medical school is primum non nocere,

and

Luke, in 4:23, tells us that Jesus lectured, 'Physician, heal yourself.'

In short, practice what you preach.

Bye, bye Laura. Mind that door on your way out.

If Ms. Palin actually knew anything about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, she would know that it protects us against the government's efforts to limit our freedom of speech.

What happened to Dr. Laura represents an exercise in free market theory. America, namely the public consumers of her product, "voted" for her to go. The government had absolutely nothing to do with this, so the boogeymen of the "Constitutional obstructionists" (whatever the heck they are) did not have to meddle.

The people have spoken and Ms. Palin has once again shown not only her ignorance, but also her lack of respect for the truth. For shame, Ms. Palin, for shame.

These trigger happy morons are just as anxious to shoot a few of the people they like to call the "N-word" as they are for another pre-emptive attack in Cheney's Christian Oil Crusades - this time Iran.

Her contract is set to expire at the end of this year, and with the backdrop of this controversy, Schlessinger decided not to continue her show when it does.

She wasn't actually fired, though it would have been justified.

You see, Schlessinger's First Amendment rights did not "cease 2exist" because she was criticized for berating an African-American or using the n-word 11 times.

The First Amendment, Sarah Palin, protects people from government infringing on our speech rights; it doesn't take away other Americans' right to criticize.

Nor does it stop a private business from terminating an employee or pulling ads as it so chooses. That's capitalism and freedom at work, baby! U-S-A! U-S-A!

As a fellow journalist - Chris, why in the world are you reporting on what Sarah Palin is "tweeting?" Is this really news? Are there really no other important things going on in the world or in Washington at the moment. Sarah Palin exists for the sheer fact that she gets press coverage for sneezing. Sometimes journalists should do their job and report on actual news and ignore the noise -- otherwise they're in danger of "creating" news where there is none.

Why blacks can say the N-word:

you call your best friend an a-hole, and you both laugh and go play golf. while on the course, you call your best friend a m-f when he sinks a birdie putt.

on the next hole, your driver gets away from you and a guy who is standing 20 good yards from where your ball lands call you an M-F'in A-HOLE.

There's a difference between your friend calling you those names, and that random guy calling you those names.

If a black person that another black person doesn't know calls him a N, there will be consequences. Don't think that the word is bandied about so easily even within black America.

I suspect it is the sponsors of her show. They are running for cover from the negative public response to her use of the “n” word. She is leaving, because of free-market forces, not “constitutional obstructionist” as Sarah Palin suggests. Are Dr. Schlessinger and Mrs. Palin suggesting the dreaded government require these companies to sponsor shows that offend their customers?

Thses two idiots are both nuts. Dr. Laura has a constitutional right to say whatever she wants. She did not break any laws by saying what she said. BUT - she (just like so many of these big-headed radio talk show clowns) didn't count on the fact that words have consequences, and now her career as a broadcaster is over because of her idiotic attack on the caller. Not because she wants her rights back (as she says) - nobobdy ever took her rights away from her. Her career is over becuase she is a stupid, angry, arrogant clown who was masquerading as somebody offering helthy advice. People really need to think twice before giving these broadcasters their attention. It's been my experience that people who insist that they know what's right for everybody else are usually wrong. The world of TV and radio broadcasting will be better off without her. She was, and is, a scam.

No, as for Sarah Palin? Forget about it. She's just an illiterate nut with a pretty face. If she didn't look the way she does, you wouldn't even know her name. She's be better off hosting a game show than being in politics. Unfortuneatley, the majority of Americans are stupid enough to give this woman their time and attention. Its a reflection of the dumbing down of America. We created this monster, now we're stuck with it.

I agree that Facebook and Twitter are poor forms of political discourse. Funny, though, that some are only offended when it is a conservative voice that uses these media, but when we have Democratic candidates using the various internet platforms the major media and pundits point to it as an example of 'vibrant' democracy.

Just as PowerPoint masks terminal stupidity and illogic, Twitter provides enough of a pretext for idiocy that many Americans mistake its inanities for normalcy. The candidate most pointing to the future of American politics is the uber-Palin, Sharon Angle. If we allow political candidates to communicate primarily through the likes of Twitter and Facebook, avoiding interviews and debates, we will have taken our greatest step toward an unavoidable idiocracy.

Wait a minute. Dr. Laura said that her use of the N word was wrong and that she realized she had made a horrible mistake. So, if she admitted that she made a horrible mistake, what is she complaining about? Does she think there should be zero consequences for her, self-described, "horrible mistake?" Or does she think everyone else should be held accountable for their actions except for her? She and the dumbbell, Sarah Palin, have stepped in it once again. Either Dr. Laura was lying when she said she made a horrible mistake, or she's been lying every time she says that people should be accountable for their actions, since she doesn't want to be held accountable herself. I didn't hear the broadcast, so I'm not passing judgement one way or the other on what she said. I'm only talking about what she has said since it happened, and pointing out her hypocrisy. Kind of like Rush Limbaugh having a zero tolerance attitude towards drug addicts until it came out that he was one himself. Bottom line: the more these right wingers talk, the more people they alienate.

The sad thing 'Fletch' is that you appear to represent a certain percentage of Americans who celebrate anti-intellectualism. Maybe this goes to our Puritan roots. In any case, there seems to be about 25-30% of the population that does not appear to read, obtains its information from poorly educated cretins -e.g. Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh- none of them having more than a high school diploma, and faces to accept facts. If anything is funny here, it's your comment "Your hero president is dumber than a stump (but boy can he read a teleprompter!)". Let me get that right... President Obama has a law agree from Harvard, and in fact was President of the law review. In case you weren't aware, Harvard law school is considered one of a small number of the finest law schools in the world. As for the cheap shot about the teleprompter, I don't recall one at the presidential debate. As for Sarah Palin, only the hopelessly senile would consider this woman 'the most threatening woman in America'. She is a self serving narcissist who fled from her position as governor when she realized how much money she could make. Someone who cannot tell an interviewer what books or magazines she has read is 'a threat' only to the feeble minded. NO Fletch, YOU are the joke. But the sad things is that you and those who think like you really are making this country a joke.

Palin and Schlessinger are two birds of a feather: drama queens who love to play the victim and claim their Constitutional rights are being hindered whenever people point out how inane the things they say are.

And PLEASE, don't anyone disagree with this post publicly. I hate it when my "First Amendment rights" are squelched by people. Poor me. I'm such a victim. Please write about my oppression on the front page of your newspaper though. I just love it when they do that.

"Dr." Laura must be so encouraged. The most vapid public figure in the USA sends an incoherent slogan to the disgraced radio flame-out and the press runs it as a new item.

wuzzat: "don't retreat, re-load..." Does the half governor mean that Doc L should gather up all the racial epithets she can and sprew them on the air? Does the half-gov even know what she is twittering?

Why can't we just get Palin declared non compos mentis and be done with her? The radio doc already took herself out of the game.

If "Dr." Laura is serious about all the First Amendment jive she is using to try and bury her hideous gaff, then let's see her make a written public defense of her quotations and allow for responses from people who think a bit more deeply and honestly about the issue. THere is NO WAY that the excuse-me rationalization for her actions will hold up. Racist is racist.

Maybe she can get a book out of this writing about how God wants her to use vile epithets as a prophetic confirmation that old white ladies generally speak as crazy as they look, just like God intended all along.

@Fletch834: All politicians use teleprompters (some even use their hands) as do TV news anchors, etc. It's totally normal.

Also, Dr. Laura was full of rage and hate. You could hear it in her voice and it was incredibly inappropriate. It would've been inappropriate if she were a Democrat. That kind of hate doesn't deserve a spot anywhere near a microphone being broadcast to millions of people, whatever the person's political affiliation.

I think that a comment by Oscar Wilde pretty much encapsulates Ms. Schlessenger's and Ms. Palin's protestations about a conspiracy to silence "Dr. Laura".

When a mediocre poet came to Wilde complaining about a conspiracy of silence about his work and asking Wilde what he should do about it Wilde replied, "Join it."

That's my advice to Dr. Laura and the conspiracy to silence her. Join it.

Your hero president is dumber than a stump (but boy can he read a teleprompter!), yet you persist in attempting to denigrate and persecute this woman for having an opinion different than yours. It has little affect other than reducing you to zero relevance but certainly adds to hilarity of it all. we pretty much already knew that Palin doesn't understand the Constitution, but this ends the debate. You have the absolute right to say something stupid enough to get you fired by a boss exercising his or her first amendment rights, or in this case, have your network's sponsors exercise theirs and pull their sponsorships, or your producer do the same thing. that's how the first amendment works, you fools.

We also already knew that Palin runs her mouth without research. Dr. Laura fell apart because she realized that she had actually attacked her caller with the n word, not just engaged in an academic musing over why blacks can use it but not whites (as silly as that would have been to begin with).

Dr. Laura actually does have some issues with race. A while back, she compared the behavior of blacks stuck in the Superdome during Katrina with that of whites evacuated to QaulCom stadium in San Diego during the wildfires. Never mind that Katrina stranded those who fled to the stadium for the duration, without food, water, supplies, etc, while QualCom was fully stocked and was only a place to sleep for folks who could walk out to the parking lot and take the kids to Sea World during the day, no, according to Dr. Laura, the chaos in New Orleans was attributable to blacks being uncivilized compared to the whites in San Diego. I heard the entire broadcast live. She went on for 10 minutes on the contrast and attributed the difference entirely to race.

Actually, her politics - and a lot of other Republicans - is very cynical. They have figured out that if they can scare the heck out of White independent middle class - or pose any issue for them as one that threaten them - free speech whatever - then they can win elections. Problem is that this is a losing game for them - by sheer numbers they cannot win this in future. What makes me afraid is the second part of her rhetoric - "reload". That is bound to happen in future with all the gun nuts out there.

Dr. Laura's first amendment rights weren't affected. The government had nothing to do with her show ending. Free speech does not mean being free from the consequences, which in this case meant sponsors and fans dropping Dr. Laura's show.

I have never seen an image of Sarah Palin with a person of any color other than White.
Sarah Palin parses President Obama's words all the time- which is usually hysterical since she does it so badly- but the divisive intent is there.
In a thinking, open society- where inclusion of the citizen is stressed, such words should never even enter the thinking of a person, let alone escape their mouth.
Dr. Laura now says that her free speech is being inhibited. No it's not- she's just embarrassed for a junior league mistake and she's trying to throw the shroud of stupidity off of her as fast as possible. There is no acceptable time or place to use the "N" word. Mrs. Palin, stay in Alaska, talk to the moose, stay away from polite company and thinking people. You are not a representative of any woman or citizen I want to see or hear, and I certainly don't want you in any way, shape or for representing my gender or be a spokesperson for mothers.

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck have the nerve to stand on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, on the anniversary of MLK's "I have a dream" speech, yet they are both the biggest racists this country has ever seen. What a lack of class. What a travesty for this country.

A lot of people truly do not understand our Constitution. The 1st Amendment does not protect you from being fired by your private sector job for saying anything, the 1st Amendment doesn't apply to them, it applies to the government.

Sarah just believes in calling a spade a spade....

Palin argures for 1st amendment rights of her friends while denying a NYC Islamic center's 2nd amendment rights. Fasinating. Noisy religious intolerance from the wealthy militant Christian political class.

And what should we make of the term "Reload"? Is this more of Palin's hoodwink chickenhawk sedition talk. Are you still advocating overthrowing the American government through violent means, Palin? You and your militant friends are getting awfully close to treason, Sarah...

She obviously condones ignorance and racism.

Sarah Palin defending someone who not only used the N word over and over again but who has tried to make Gays and Lesbians into enemies of the people for years? Very noble of you Sarah.

It's interesting. Palin criticized Obama for defending the constitution when it comes to the Islamic Community Center in NYC but she's OK with "Dr" Laura spewing hate rhetoric for so many years.

And by the way Sarah... if the Government was restricting your 1st Amendment rights how is it possible you've made millions of dollars trashing the President, much of it with lies and mischaracterizations?

Bridge to Nowhere-Lie
Death Panels-Lie

Making Millions by lying....protected by the 1st Amendment.

So, to recap, the following is protected by the first amendment:

Saying the n-word on the radio
Criticizing a democratic president

The following is not protected:

Criticizing a republican president
Building a mosque

Shows how much Palin knows....the first amendment prohibits government from interfering with the right of free speech...it does not prohibit the public from condemning comments, protesting comments or boycotting products/people because of their exercise of free speech...Sarah needs to go back to school!

And THAT was the end of Sarah Palin's "career."

Thank you AnnaGrace2! I've been saying the same thing since Dr. Laura came out with that comment. I hope someone picks up on that and calls both Dr. Laura and Sarah Palin out on this.

Can someone please explain to these people what the 1st Amendment actually says? It protects you from the GOVERNMENT infringing on your right to speak - not from other people/sponsors/critics calling out your racist bigotry. For example, the FCC can't stop her show because she's a moron, but I can call her a moron and encourage sponsors to pull advertising from her show. And Sarah Palin - well, there's too much to say there. Suffice it to say - moron.

News Flash! Sarah Palin knows that there is a First Amendment!

So, does this mean Palin supports the use of the word? I dare her to say "i see no problem using the N-word", " I say it all the time".
