Ad of the Day: MoveOn goes after Ayotte and Paul
Republican Senate nominee Kelly Ayotte is the target of a new ad from left-leaning MoveOn.org. The ad accuses Ayotte of benefiting from millions being spent by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in support of GOP candidates.
"They say you can judge a person by the company they keep," says an announcer. "Well, Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte is getting a million dollars worth of help from the Chamber of Commerce." The ad goes on to claim the Chamber was recently accused of tax fraud for "diverting money meant for charity toward their partisan agenda."
MoveOn cites a New York Times report that details a complaint filed with the IRS against the Chamber. But the complaint was brought by the recently-established, labor union-backed U.S. Chamber Watch. The Times goes on to report that the Chamber denied the claims outlined in the complaint and dismissed it as purely political.
Hotline OnCall reports that the ad is one of two attacking Republican Senate candidates. The other ad is airing in Kentucky against ophthalmologist Rand Paul. Both ads, using the same script, attack the candidates via the Chamber.

MoveOn.org is laughable - and irrelevant in NH. We have a saying up here in NH that "We don't give a **** how you do it in Massachusetts". The same applies to the other 48 as well. Ads against the Chamber of Commerce will add percentage points to Ayotte's margin, not subtract.

MoveOn has played an important role in speaking truth to power, and been demonized for it beyond anything they deserve, but they certainly aren't always right, and this tactic just seems silly. How much mileage do they really think they will get by trying to cast the Chamber of Commerce as Darth Vader?
