Meghan McCain on meeting Palin: 'Who the hell is Sarah Palin'

By Matt DeLong

Meghan McCain's trip on the book-promotion circuit brought her to "The Tonight Show" Tuesday," where she opened up a bit more about her relationship with former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

McCain said she didn't find out her father had chosen Palin to fill out the 2008 Republican presidential ticket until a "couple of hours before" they appeared onstage together. She said she cried on the way to the rally.

"My initial reaction was 'who the hell is Sarah Palin?' Like everybody else" she said, adding: "I remember being on stage and distinctly thinking, 'God, let her not have any skeletons in the closet.'"

Her father didn't learn that she "almost overdosed on Xanax" the day before the election, she said, until he read her book, "Dirty Sexy Politics," shortly before it came out. She also said she turned the Arizona senator on to "Jersey Shore," and now he has Twitter conversations with Snooki, one of the show's stars.

She had harsh words for her father's 2008 rival, President Obama.

"I don't think he's doing a very good job," McCain said. "I don't like him."

Like, OMG, why should we care that Meghan McCain has a book out? Please, spare us. A RINO like her father, but without the experience, military or political chops, she obviously has aspirations to follow Dad into the "family business". There has been 'way too much of that... The Founders were a little put out with hereditary titles when they decided to break with Britain, and pretty much hated the idea of an American House of Lords. I expect they never conceived that there would be "career politicians" followed into office by their progeny, ad infinitum. Meghan, you are not old enough for an autobiography. Who do you think you are, Barak Obama in an donkey suit? Go away. Get a real job. Grow up. Forget politics.

Question: Who the hell is Meghan McCain?

Answer: A nobody.

Posted by: RonKH | September 10, 2010 1:18 AM | Report abuse

Meghan McCain, your name is known ONLY because of your father's name.

Mealy-mouth, whining Meghan McCain has never stepped up to the plate.

Never ran for School Board
Never ran for city Council
Never ran for hometown mayor
Never ran for state-wide commission of any kind
Has never run for Governor.
Never stepped up to the plate to help the National Repubs by running for VP

Meghan, when you accomplish something on your own, you won't have to criticize anyone to get your lame brain on display.

Put up and you won't have to whine to get attention..

Who in the hell cares what Meghan McCain has to say, she's a faux-celebrity that knows nothing about politics. - http://disenchantedjourno.blogspot.com/2010/09/must-not-read-story-who-hell-cares-what.html

First, middle America possesses no self-awareness which is why most claiming the middle America mantle love Palin, the queen of the bewildered herd, and hate the president, who is saddled with trying to undo eight years of failed policy, mis-management, and incompetence inflicted upon America by the Bush administration, another bewildered herd favorite.

Second, Palin should be criticized every moment of every second of every miniute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of every year until she no longer has any involvement with American politics, media, or society. Palin's kind is the bane of human existence.

Lastly, Meghan McCain is an irrelevance, being used as a media prop to cover for a slow news cycle. It is a joke that she allegedly wrote a book, and her comments about the president are absurdly reductionist, as if mentally she has never left middle school.

All that said, based on the posts, at least this kind of reporting keeps the ranters busy.

Ms.McCain has a RIGHT to her opinion and that is what we need to protect the RIGHTS of all people. The hate that Sarah Palin projects is dangerous to this country. Hate is going destroy what so many of us have built. Sarah stop the hate!!!

If it's any consolation to Meghan, her tears were more than balanced out by my limitless joy on the day her father announced that Sarah Palin was to be his running mate. I literally burst out laughing while driving in to work in my car, because I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the election was over at that point, and Obama was going to be our next president. I was giddy all day and the glow got me through the awful Beltway traffic that evening as well.

Meghan should be glad in retrospect that her dad lost. I really don't think the awful stresses of the past 21 months would have been good for the health of a man his age, and we could very well have the Wasillabilly in the Oval Office right now. I really do believe after Nov. 2008 that there is a God who protects our country from its worst elements.

Meghan McCain is following in the footsteps of her dad, who got lots of media adulation when he was criticial of Bush. Of course the media turned on McCain when he stood in the way of 0bama's rise to power. The media will turn on Meghan if she steps out of line.

Or maybe being blonde, busty and good looking is helping her get attention?? If she looked like Chelsea Clinton, I don't think anyone would give a damn what she thought.

Meghan McCain is the epitome of the Progressive Liberal. So is Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. We have had enough of Progressives to last several lifetimes. You people are DONE for at least a couple of generations. We the People are winning our country back from Progressives and will reclaim our true history and teach it to our children so they may never forget what this country almost lost. Good riddance.

This Twit has gone from being very annoying to being downright pathetic. She is too stupid to know that had it not been for Sarah Palin her father would have been annhilated and humiliated by a double digit loss. This silly, vapid valley girl needs to get a real job and stay out of the public eye for a while. She is fast becoming nauseating.

Who cares if McCain's daughter wrote a book about anything? Obviously, this is a lesson in Republican family politics, the kid don't have a say so she don't need to be consulted. If she did find out and object, who cares? What she should be scared as Hell about is what would have happened had her old man gotten elected and then not been able to serve out his term, putting Palin in the seat next to the red telephone. We are all the luckiest people in the world that Obama won on that score. And what difference does it make if someone overdosed on Zanax before the election? That is a personal problem that really doesn't belong on TV, unless you want to compete with Lindsay Lohan and Brittney Spears. I guess she is going for three of a kind to win the hand. More wasted time and space in the news blocks.

Like many others who have posted here, I ask this question: "who cares what Meghan McCain thinks?" And of course, why would anyone buy her book? (unless there is dirt in it about Sarah Palin?)

Some of the sons and daughters of prominent politicians have turned out to have considerable political skills of their own: George W and Jeb Bush, Liz Cheney, Andrew Cuomo. Others... not so much: Lisa Murkowski, Patrick Kennedy, Ron Reagan jr...

Thank God for President Obama. He's doing a great job with what he has to deal with. I'm so glad we have him. If McCain had won, we'd be involved in a third war with Iran right about now, we would be in a depression instead of recovering from a deep recession caused by Bush and the Republicans in congress, and Palin would be setting up concentration camps for the blacks, Hispanics and Arabs.

She's a dummie, she knows she is a dummy and she doesn't want to do anything but remain a dummie. It should be against the law for anyone so ill prepared to even consider running for any office. After attending 5 colleges to get 1 undergrad degree; she's still a dummie. Carry on Megan!

Meghan has her own opinions and certainly is entitled to her own opinions -- to have a blog and write a book, even. she has been hired to co-host The View many times and while I don't dislike her, she strikes me as very young and not just becasue she is very young. I would expect a Columbia graduate to be more mature, but she comes off like an 18-19 year old. She speaks with Valley Girl inflection in her voice and her thoughts are not well formed. There is no way, without her name and money, that she would have achieved this level of success at this point in her life. What's this about almost overdosing on Xanax?

Meghan McCain is actually a relic; very much an old school Republican in the mold of Henry Cabot Lodge, Nelson Rockefeller, Robert Taft; catered to the rich and big business but was fairly mute on many social issues like abortion or gay marriage. At times, they may have spoke of keeping abortion out of the hands of the masses yet quietly available to the old money WASPS.

Sarah Palin is a later Republican; one that came of age after Nixon's Southern Strategy became a reality and many former segregationist Dixiecrats moved into the GOP fold. While they still cater to the rich and big business policy wise, they have utilized dog whistle populism and use wedge issues like gay marriage, flag burning and abortion to keep people occupied over those issues while pursuing policies that have hurt the American middle class.
