Reid: Gillibrand is 'hottest member'

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) took a strange turn in his remarks during a fundraiser for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. During his remarks, Reid referred to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) as the Senate's "hottest member."

Politico reports that, during his remarks, Reid turned to Gillibrand, saying something about how "many senators are known for many things," adding, "We in the Senate refer to Sen. Gillibrand as the hottest member." Reid went on to talk about Gillibrand's accomplishments, but the comment about her looks prompted her to blush noticeably and caused a stir in the crowd. A source told Politico that the remark was considered "pretty shocking."

Gillibrand, the state's junior senator, was named one of Capitol Hill's "50 Most Beautiful" -- an inside-the-Beltway competition that includes members of Congress and other staffers. Also, in an August debate, when asked to say one nice thing about the Democrat, Gillibrand's then-prospective Republican challenger, Bruce Blakeman, said she was "an attractive, bright woman who I believe is a good mom."

The jury is still out as to whether the comment could hurt Reid, who is in the middle of a tough campaign against Republican challenger Sharron Angle.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley told Politico, "What can I say, she made The Hilll's 'Most Beautiful' list. Of course he also went on to praise her skill and tenacity and described her as an effective member of the New York delegation as well."

What'd ya expect comin'from Reid?

She's attractive but not "hot"
If you are really "hot" then the Dems and the liberal media go on a frenzy to discredit you because it's not possible to be that and able to represent anyone. Isn't it ironic that it's the Democratic party that has to have matronly women only in power. Think about it, the only prominent women in power in our history havevn't been lookers- Hilary Clinton, Madeline Albright, Janet Reno, Nancy Pelosit, Condi Rice, etc.

When are people going to realize that this is a cultural bias/prejudice in America among men and women alike that automatically discredits any woman in government that is a sexual, attractive being (Palin and O'Connell)

Slick Willie thought the Inca Mummy was do-able.

I'd have expected this of Slick Willie Clinton...

What the heck is wrong with calling a female senator hot? He did not say that she was a piece of ass. Women should appreciate that comment and not go into cackling hen mood when a comment such as Harry Reid is said. We have more important priorities in the United States than one comment.

If he had said that about Mikulski he'd be in St. E's by now

Old photo. Bright, attractive and hard working Senator. After Senator Reid's continuously inappropriate remarks, including his most recent comment about this Senator, perhaps family members should seek an evaluation by physicians for dementia.

Lighten up, people. And I would say that even if a Republican had said what Reid said. I mean, she's "attractive" - and that's a bad thing how? Maybe not the most appropriate comment, but still. Not a news item.
Move along, nothing to see here...

Reid must be a lesbian then?

Posted by: theaz | September 21, 2010 5:16 PM | Report abuse

Well, she is semi-attractive in the accompanying picture but a quick Google image search shows reality…a lumpy, round-faced, plain, size sixteen “mouseburger”.

Better luck next time, progressives.

Reality! Wow, what a concept!

It sure doesn't say much about Nevada voters who vote for creepy, weird, senile, sexist Reid!
(maybe dementia is causing him to say these things; either way, it can't be good
for Nevada!)

So wrong on So many levels, not the least of which is...

A "fundraiser for Michael Bloomberg", that's like a coming out party for Neil Patrick Harris - you just don't need one.

Poor old Harry Reid.
Not only is he senile and old, now he has to deal with going BLIND!

HippyHawk.

Well, Harry Reid is a pretty big MEMBER too, if you consider the other meaning of that word.

What are they drinking in Nevada?? Harry Reid and Sharon Angel are "best" choices the people there came up with to represent them??? If ever a 3rd choice was needed it would be there.

Posted by: sovine08 | September 21, 2010 2:40 PM | Report abuse

And what does he call his democratic colleagues who are up for election this November? Toast?

Posted by: AnnieP1 | September 21, 2010 2:39 PM | Report abuse

Everyone says how Sharron Angle is being kept under wraps but the same goes for Harry Reid because his handlers don't know what he is going to say. He appears in Nevada at closed unpublicized meetings before friendly audiences

Gillibrand is one of the few Dem hotties. Look at who Obama has relied on - Clinton, Napolitano, Valerie Jarrett, Elizabeth Warren, and Kagan and Sotomayor for SCOTUS. And in the Senate: Mikulski, Stabenow, McCaskill, etc. Republican women are much hotter.

Why don't the Dems in the sen debate this on the floor in 2012 when it comes time for them to obstruct bills that better America?

so, Reid has his "hotties" and "pets." And of course his President who doesn't speak with an accent "unless he wants to."

What a loathesome little worm.

This is just a sinister plot to make Harry Reid look like a regular guy. The "dabbling in witchcraft" thing was already taken by a candidate for Senate, so he and his team felt the "hit on a junior member of your legislative body" would work.

Posted by: tommariner | September 21, 2010 12:50 PM | Report abuse

ieklein - well, there are currently 2 Republican senators who've admitted committing adultery - and they're still casting votes.

Posted by: angie12106 | September 21, 2010 12:42 PM | Report abuse

Wow, Democrats have stooped to a new low, that is really a Sexist Comment by Reid!!!
OMG! Democrats are really, really DESPERATE!!!!
(ole Harry needs new glasses, too... Gillibrand is kind of plain jane, actually)

Posted by: ohioan | September 21, 2010 12:40 PM | Report abuse

If a Republican were to say something like that, they would want him outed for sexual harassment but since it is a Dem, it's OK
