O'Donnell on 'witchcraft' comments: I was in high school

By Matt DeLong

Update at 4:09 p.m.: The Associated Press reports that Christine O'Donnell, speaking at a GOP event in Delaware Sunday, made light of the controversy swirling around her "witchcraft" remarks in 1999:

During an appearance Sunday at a GOP picnic in southern Delaware, O'Donnell said she was in high school when she dabbled in witchcraft. She asked the audience: "How many of you didn't hang out with questionable folks in high school?"

Former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove on Sunday called on Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell to explain what she was talking about when she said in 1999 that she "dabbled into witchcraft." O'Donnell's comments came to light Friday in a clip from comedian Bill Maher's former show, "Politically Incorrect," that Maher aired on his current HBO program, "Real Time."

"In southern Delaware there are a lot of churchgoing people," Rove said on "Fox News Sunday." "They're going to want to know what that is all about." Referencing O'Donnell's dismissal of Rove's earlier criticism of her ability to win in Delaware, Rove added that "she can't just say things are 'unfactual' ... I don't think the people of Delaware are accepting that as a reasonable explanation."

Rove said O'Donnell must also address the questions raised about her personal and campaign finances "in the most sympathetic way possible," if she wants to effectively communicate her criticism of President Obama and the Democrats. Rove said she "made a smart decision" by canceling scheduled television appearances on CBS's "Face the Nation," and "Fox News Sunday."

Rove also said that Sen. Lisa Murkowski's (R-Alaska) decision to mount write-in bid after a primary loss to tea party favorite Joe Miller is "sad and sorry."

"She's going to lose," Rove said, adding that Murkowski could siphon enough votes from Miller to throw the seat to the Democratic nominee, Scott McAdams. "[Miller] won it fair and square, and Murkowski should not pursue this very, very sad line she is pursuing," he said.

Well I would rather have a professed Wiccan in the running for office than a false christian that goes and has gay orgies at Bohemian Grove. Leave her alone and as far as I know there is still freedom of religion in this country! Carl Rove is threaten because she has values and can't be controlled by the New World Order!and that is all the endorsement I need they don't like her so she must be good!

So funny how the media takes off on something so inconsequential as this witchcraft distraction. I think the video speaks for itself in which she shows herself to be young, direct, speaks without "parsing" and is the picture of innocence. She is trusting and didn't expect someone to use naive comments against her.

And, consider the source: Bill "the terrorists were courageous" Maher. Now there's a good American. NOT.

Rove is one of the establishment neocons along with liberals bashing America like a tetherball between 2 corrupt parties for personal benefit.

That is why liberals and establishment republicans hate the tea party so much. Anything that interrupts their media driven gravy train of hatred is a threat.

Republicans seem to have problem when it comes to vetting candidates. McCain had a problem with Sarah Palin. She slipped through the cracks. Now in these recent elections many candidates are slipping through the cracks. Minor things such as witchcraft, stupidity, the problem with walking and chewing gum at the same time. They(Republicans and Democrats) along with the voters do not take time to think. They are led by the ring in their nose and told how to vote. The media builds up and shares with us every word that the Palins, the Roes, the Limbaughs utter and people are stupid enough to take every work to heart. We should know by now that these people mentioned above are doing what they do for MONEY!!!!!!!

Democrats like Obama just spend millions to seal all their records. Yeah that's a lot better that really inspire trust.

The tea party will result in some bad candidates but some very good ones.

At least one side of the aisle is taking REAL action trying for POSITIVE change not just sitting in their basements with their hands out waiting for someone to tell them what to do.

Wiccan Loving Leftists attack Witchcraft Dabbling Conservative
Funny how the Radical Left uses behavior it LOVES such as Homosexuality and in this case Wicca as a PUT DOWN for it’s political enemies. They scream for freedom to do whatever they want, and cry when people judge deviant behavior. Then when someone they hate because of their own dogmas is found doing what they’ve always done, they attack that person as if they are all of the sudden on some moral high ground. Hypocrisy is a foundation of a modern Liberal.

The one thing that Bcamp55 does accomplish is to remind me why I toil away, working away in the background to counter the malignancy unleashed on America by social conservative hate groups and far-right hate media such as the Fox Ministry of Propaganda.

With regard to Miss O'Donnell, all I need to know is whether she is a virgin. Her response and her past history will tell me everything that I need to know about her.

Got to love the irony of the reaction of the Dumboturds to this one:

Liberal members of government who are inexperienced, anarchy sympathizers, incompetent, socialists, and anti-America, or who have been involved in the KKK, murdering young women, or drug abuse as ADULTS are fine - but we can't accept what some kid did in high school if they ended up becoming conservative later in life.

More double standards by the party made up of substandard people who have no standards for those they elect (only those they oppose).

O'Donnell's defenders who use arguments such as "so and so Democrat once dabbled in such and such" are completely missing the point.

I think most Democrats and liberals laughing about this situation are not of the opinion that what O'Donnell professed to have done in high school is wrong or bad. We aren't condemning her for being an apprentice witch or Satanist (smirk).

The point is that for all the moral absolutism of people like O'Donnell and the Right, the moral relativists sure come streaming out of the conservative woodwork once one of their own is revealed as guilty of the sins they rail against.

We're not saying she shouldn't be elected because of what she dabbled in back then. We pointing out that "values voters", moral conservatives, etc shouldn't vote for her if they were morally consistant, instead of being snivelling moral relativists who excuse such shennanigans as long as it's one of their own.

"Witches" practice an ancient indigenous European religion that does not even believe in a creature or entity called the Devil or Satan.

This entity is only recognised by those who worship the intolerant monotheistic Asian God of the Jews whom the Christians worship via the crucified Bedouin Rabbi they believe to have been his son. The Muslims who also worship the Jewish God thus also acknowledge the existance of Satan.

Therefore logic dictates only Jews, Christians or Muslims are able to worship Satan or the Devil. Those who follow indigenious European Pagan religions cannot worship that which they do not believe in.

Bear in mind that Democracy itself was a gift from tolerant, Pagan Europe. In the Ancient Athens of Circa 400 B.C. an ancient Athenian named Pericles developed the idea. Aristarchos one of the many luminaries of Pagan Europe postulated a heliocentric hypothesis 1,800 years before Corpurnicus.

During the "Burning Times" from circa mid 16th century to the early 18th the Christians murdered some 60,000 men and women in Europe as "suspected" witches. This period co-incides roughly with the so-called reformation.

In Salem also, much to America's shame, innocent 19 people were murdered by the Christians after convicting them of "Witchcraft"!

Am I the only American who remembers Sarah Palin's own link to witchcraft? There was a video widely circulated in 2008--it was on YouTube--of Palin being called down to the well of her church to receive a blessing from the preacher--who, among other things, engaged in real witch hunts, found the witches, and neutralized them. This is no joke people. Palin's pastor really does wage warfare against witches.
So now we have no less than one Republican Senatorial candidate and one likely presidential candidate who admit to the reality of witches. This is what the Republican Party has come to.

Let me see fi we have this straight - this self proclaimed social conservative who wants to suppress others wants a pass on witchcraft and making her "sacrifices" on a satanic altar, which acording to the transcript of the video was bloodstained....

All anyone needs to know about this woan you can see in her eyes. If you have ever been around the clinically insane they all have that same look in their eyes. It is unforgettable and unmistakable. And she has it in spades.

Dear Weasely1: you have it all wrong. In the eyes of Republicans whe is not incompetent. They are afraid she may be more competent than she looks. Think about it. They screwed up the economy, led us into two needless wars in a headlong embrace of stupidity which we all went along with, at first. Several of them had sex with anything that looked human (even a coatrack, I'm told). So how bad can she be?

I will say this. Chrissy can actually parse an English sentence coherently before it comes tumbling out from between her lips. Sarah, on the other hand, just tosses words over her teeth, and doesn;t even bother to look where they land.

there must be a mind in O'Donnell's brain somewhere. If we just look hard enough. The scary thing is we might find it.

It is sad that Christine O'Donnell hunbg out with questionable people in high school. What is even sadder is she is still hanging out with questionable people: the tea prtyists. I have a half-baked theory. I just came up with it. All of the older folks who are in the tea party were stoned out of their minds in the Sixties, and probably lived in communes in the desert not to farfrom where the Atomic bomb experiments were conducted at Yucca Flats. You can tell if you switch off the lights, and they glow in the dark.

I can't believe I am in agreement with Karl Rove. I want to see him in prison. But he is right on this one. Chrissy has to run down to southern Delaware and explain herself to a somehwat conservative group of skeptics. Maybe they'll just stay home and not vote this time around. Or maybe they will write in Lisa Murkowski's name and mail the ballots to Alaska to help her out. The glow might just bend their minds enough to do that.

O'Donnell's witchcraft must have worked. She's an incompetent boob, but is now a Republican Senate candidate. She must have sold her soul to Dick Cheney, I mean the Devil, to have made that happen.

Sarah Palin's soul must be in the Devil's back pocket too. What else could possibly explain her sudden, inexplicable rise to glory? It certainly wasn't her stellar intellect, or vast political experience.

STOP, RELAX, SLOW DOWN.
Give WAPO a break,
The boards are very busy tonight.
Their notice, that "you've posted to many, or posted too rapidly, is apparently an automatic response, to overloading, or it's a catch-all, when they're too busy. Post your comments, send them, and double check, to see if it's posted, regardless of the Boards response to you. It's the impatients among us, that seem to be stuttering, when you see the same post, repeated, two, three, four times or more. It's a waste of your time, and theirs. Give'em a break. The boards are busy.

All of the establishedment's criticalisms on O'Donnell are UNFACTUAL and must be REFUDIATED in the most strongest terms positable. We will not stand for our candidates being questioned like this! Just because she got the date of her college degree off by 17 years should NOT disqualify her. Seventeen years can go by in the blink of an eye. And she only used like $5,000 of her campaign donations to pay off her personal debts. Not that much really. A little witchcraft might help in the fight against our terrorized citizenry.

What's important is that she knows how to yell "Freedom!" in a convincing and perky way. That's all that's really needed to get our country out of the recession. All this fancy-shmantzy elitist economestic stuff is too complimicated for me and makes my head hert.

Michael Lotus: Murkowski’s OK, But O’Donnell Is A Villainess?

Let’s get this straight. Christine O’Donnell actually won her primary. But Karl Rove began actively campaigning for the Democrat in Delaware the day after O’Donnell won, when there was no other GOP candidate to back, when the voters had already decided, and blaming her for supposedly squandering a GOP Senate majority.

Lisa Murkowski lost her primary. Yet she is running as a write-in candidate, for no reason she can publicly justify. She is a spoiler who is likely to cause the loss of a GOP Senate seat.

Yet where is the full-throated assault on Lisa Murkowski by the GOP leadership?

I didn't read them so I'd be curious to know. We all did a lot of things when we were younger and when we were older that were far worse than a teenager dating someone who was a witch and then not going any farther by joining or practicing witchcraft.

Do as I say not as I do. No one seems to remember that old saying.

Karl Rove...

One of the architects of the war in Iraq and "Mission Accomplished" in 2003.

Does Rove have any more "good advice" for the country?

Since 2003:

4,400 dead Americans.

35,000 wounded Americans.

100,000 dead Iraqis.

2,000,000 displaced Iraqis.

America doesn't need more "Rove advice."

If Rove is against someone -- it’s good reason to support the person.

Ms. O'Donnell's response is to ask how many of us hung out with questionable people in high school. Answer: Very few. Most of us did not hang out with gang members, criminals, hard core drug addicts, Satanic Cults, etc. There's a huge difference between teenage shenanigans and those kind of behaviors. Someone please tell Ms. O'Donnell that this isn't normal teenage behavior. In fact, millions and millions of us attended church and worshipped God during high school. She was 31-years-old when, during one of 22 appearances on Bill Maher's 'Politically Incorrect,' she said, "I dabbled into witchcraft -- I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. ... I dabbled into witchcraft."

Her unprompted and needless revelation came as an adult.

And, according to Maher, there's more to come.

He says he will release a clip a week until the election -- unless she agrees to appear on his current show.

She won't. He will.

O'Donnell supporters know damn well that if this were a different race, and a Democratic candidate for Senate had come out and said that she had once "dabbled in witchcraft," they would have savaged her unmercifully -- and no explanation of youthful indiscretion of anything else would have been acceptable to them.

And after they lose on November 2, it will be everyone's else fault except for their candidate's and their own. It'll be Karl Rove's fault, the media's fault, the NRSC's, the Delaware GOP's, Mike Castle's, et cetera.

Huuummmm....why does that ring a bell?
_________
Great try to discredit our president who attedned a black church for 20 years. You may not like minority churches who talk about the America you don't see always see - oppresion, racism, lower % of bank loans to small businesses, a prison rate at 4 times the conviction rate of others for similar crimes, or the disparity in drug convicion rates between aces etc. You call that "anti-christian". I call it a passionate church speaking about a country they love and the social wrongs they face. How is that equivilant to "satanic/wiccan"?

rowantree & tulsa_dave: you must have read a different article - O'Donnell said when she was much younger she and her boyfriend went to a movie, then had a midnight picnic in a graveyard (unknowlingly) near or on a "satanic altar". This, to her, is "dabbling in witchcraft".

First, legally - THER ARE NO WITCHES. The last so-called Witchcraft Act was repealed in 1951. Someone may call themselves a witch, but big deal; I can call myself a re-incarnation of King Arthur and go to Renaissance Faires. It’s about as meaningful.

Second - I doubt Ms. O'Donnell can tell the difference between Wicca, Satanism, Druidism or Nature Worship - although it might be amusing to hear her try. In any event, if you think you become a "witch" if your boy friend takes you on a midnight picnic in a graveyard, you are woefully mis-informed about witches.

Third - I can't help but wonder if there was an "initiation rite" the boy friend suggested; also if there was a second date.

"Carl Rove is right for pointing out the obvious about Christine O'Donnell's past conduct and character." The more she talks, the weirder she becomes.
What is most shocking, is that Colbert ( of Comedy Central) has twenty-plus video/audio evidence of her open opinions and ideology, and Christine is trying to deny that she did not say what she said.

Instead, how about Rove explain the comment about there being weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Courage and consequence? What a freaking joke this little nancy boy is.

Her campaign should watch Cartoon Network for Invader Zim, where his robot dog can be heard saying "Now I'm going to sing the 'Doom Song.' Doom doom doom doom de doom doom!"

Oh St. Sarah, how will pristine Christine survive?

When the Republicans trotted out Dan Quayle, I thought they couldn't get anyone dumber. Then they trotted out George W. Bush, and I thought, now, now they've really reached the bottom. Then in 2008, they brought us Sarah Palin, and I realized they'd reached an even lower low, which I thought was unbeatable... Nope, Sharon Angle topped her... with ease! But this time, this time, I'm convinced they WILL find someone even worse than O'Donnell and it is SCAREY!!!

Karl Rove is making himself irrelevant and showing that he is NOT a conservative.

"In southern Delaware there are a lot of churchgoing people," Rove said on "Fox News Sunday."

Republicans have apparently given up on northern Delaware, long known as a pagan stronghold.

Mr. Rove is "reaping the polluted harvest" he and his ilk have sewn for years, and he is now regretting it.

But her past comments are bedeviling her.

O'donnel has even less intellectual capacacity than Palin and both say completely ridculous things. If Rove would be 'fair and HONEST' he would go back to his original conclusion that this woman is an idiot. She garners attention because of her sex appeal and over the top wholesome schtick. This is exactly what Rove et al. risked occurring when they whipped up the far right evangelicals. She should be a bible camp counselor not U.S. senator. Talk about a deer in the headlights!

Ms. O'Donnell did not "dabble in Witchcraft". She dabbled in Satanic worship. There is a HUGE difference there. Witches are peaceful people whose creed is "harm none". Satanic worship? Not so much. Either Ms. O'Donnell is uneducated (and therefore has no business in politics) or is being handsomely paid by the Christian Coalition to attack other religions. Either way, she has no place in politics.

O'Donnell admits to attending a satanic church for 20 years but denies ever having heard the priest spout any hateful anti-christian rhetoric.

Huuummmm....why does that ring a bell?

From the man who conjured up the evil brew of radical right-wing extremist evangelicals combined with the old, rotting corpse of a white supremacist Southern political party?

Mr. Rove and Mr. Atwater's style of wedge politics is now dividing the Republican Party.

Ms. O'Donnell has no business in the U.S. Senate.

Neither do Ms. Angle of Nevada nor Mr. Greene of South Carolina.

Christine O’Donnell simply bewitched Delaware voters.
