Sarah Palin calls reporters 'impotent' and 'limp'

This week's Vanity Fair article had even liberals defending Sarah Palin, saying Michael Joseph Gross wrote a sexist hatchet-job. The former Alaska governor weighed in herself:

"Those who are impotent and limp and gutless and they go on their anonymous -- sources that are anonymous -- and impotent, limp and gutless reporters take anonymous sources and cite them as being factual references," she told Sean Hannity. "It just slays me because it's so absolutely clear what the state of yellow journalism is today that they would take these anonymous sources as fact."

The Advocate wonders that Palin is gay-baiting, as Gross is gay.

GOProud's chairman, Chris Barron, defended Palin's language to Slate:

It is The Advocate, not Sarah Palin, who is guilty of "gay-baiting." I don't think most people associate the words "impotent," "limp," or "gutless" with being gay - I know I certainly don't. If the folks at The Advocate think these words are euphemisms for being gay or lesbian then I think that speaks volumes about their own internalized homophobia.

Ben Smith at Politico has been steadily debunking some of the anecdotes in Vanity Fair. For example, Palin's son Trig wasn't even at one event where Gross described "a woman, perhaps a nanny" whisking him away. (The woman was actually the boy's mother.)

Meanwhile, conservative blogger Stacy McCain got an authorized interview with Todd Palin -- but in two hours, the former First Dude didn't say much on the record.

Ms Palin could put all of her critics to rest by taking half a dozen of her limpest and wimpiest critics on a moose hunt in the wilds of her home state. To prove them wrong, all she would have to do is find a willing critter, load her .30-06 Weatherby, take aim and blast that big old cow. If she really wanted to impress the crowd, she could go bag an Alaskan Brown Bear. She could make a pay-per-view event out of it. I, for one, would be happy to pay.

If Sarah Palin had the physique of Susan Collins or Olympia Snow she would still be trying to peddle seal blubber and lobbying to get federal earmarks for Alaska. Face it; she is only popular in the GOP because she looks sexy. She is to the GOP what Marilyn Monroe was to acting. The GOP has very few women in office period and virtually none other than Palin who look sexy.

Also, for someone who claims to have a BA in Journalism Sarah sure has trouble writing and saying a complete sentence.

And when exactly did Dave Weigel become a liberal? When you look at this, doesn't it seem that Sister Sarah went after a gnat with a bazooka, anyway? Must have been too close to the truth for her.

Seems the conservative Republicans have really shown they are not conservative after all. What gives their spokesperson the right to use vile language. Could it be that maybe that is all she knows. I think the college that 'gave' Palin the diploma in journalism is really proud now.

I would rather castrate myself with a sharp stick than agree with Palin, but certainly the Post is gutless and limp for giving us coverage of this bimbo's ravings day after day after day after day after day after day.

Please remind me: what exactly does this woman do to deserve such continual attention paid to the sleazy drivel that drools out of her hatchet face?

It is laughable when Palin gets indignant, but not so when she is opening her filthy mouth and demeaning and degrading the President, Pelosi, Reid, and anyone who dares to take her to task. It is also telling just how dumbed down the Republicans have become. They choose to follow a woman who is a liar, a quitter, a money-grubber publicity hound, a totally lapsed "christian", a hypocrite, and an absentee mother. While she is traipsing around the country trashing the reputations of good and decent men and women, her girls are left to ponder motherhood on their own. One knocked-up, two to go.
She uses her son's military service to honor herself, sends her daughter off to television land that she claims to hate and be filled with unsavory, unchristian people, but what the heck look at the money she'll make.
Her husband quit his job since she is making millions, all the while trying to convince moral and intelligent Americans that they are the real Americans. My eye! They are the newest famous grifters, taking their followers for all the money they can get. She loves her party so much she charges them for everything. What a fraud. Palin is so far removed from God's teachings, and she is too stupid to even see herself for what she is. Liar, liar, pants on fire.
What kind of Christian deliberately and willfully smears decent people??? Between her and Beck, they tear religion down to its lowest.

When I first read this, I like most everyone else, focused on the "negative" use of language by the not-candidate.

Well, I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to speculate on what she might say about reporters she did like...

Too give those who might miss my point (hey this could be me most days) an example, it probably would have a lot of statements about "stroking mighty pens" and the like...

All of which makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

@mibrooks27: The Tea Party is the last hope for America? And what, exactly is their plan to create jobs, protect us from the banks backing up and running us over again, the war in Afghanistan, the obscene amount of corporate money controlling our politics, the millions who are uninsured and unemployed, protecting our seniors? What, SPECIFICALLY, do they propose? WHAT is their platform? I've only heard about what they don't want and nothing about what they propose. And any "party" that owes it's promotion and existence to the Koch brothers'billions and its promotion to a media corporation owned by a Saudi is decidedly NOT the last hope of this democracy.

Palin is completely correct. Under Bush they were useful fools for justifying the invasion of Iraq. Under Clinton and Bush and Obama, they have shilled for the "free trade" train wreck. The press in incurious and craven. It ceased serving the public good around 20 years ago. All we get, these days, is hectoring and slanted garbage about politically correct nonsense fro the left. No doubt, after the bloodbath in November, the MSM will fall all over themselves touting what a great idea it is to do whatever stupid nonsense the Republican's come up with. I would add, to Palin's charges: impotent, offensive, craven, and incurious. The Tea Party is the last hope this country has left.

Palin is merely another vulgar celebrity willing to compromise herself for lots of money. She acts the part of the aggrieved "American Everyman/woman" willing to "stand up" against those who would seek to oppress her. The corporations who pull her strings have had a lot of success with with this story line. They feel aggrieved, voiceless and helpless. Palin mirrors their feelings as she holds out the illusiom that they, too, can be a success. After all, she tells them, "I'm just like you." They react so positively to her as she herds them deeper into the corporate cage. She has them cheering as she says that their social security will be taken from them, their health care should be done away with, public education should be placed in the hands of private hands who will be able to educate whom they please, how they please and teach anything they please. She is a symbol of America's collective nervous breakdown. That politicians who promote hate, inequality, division, and a distinct culture of "I've got mine, the hell with everyone else" are able to so easily deceive so many, proves to me that my poor countrymen can no longer differentiate between reality and illusion. The coup is over. Corporate Amerika is now the government of the United States of America. Expect as much from this new government as you got from BP in the Gulf. Sarah doesn't matter, it's what she and the rest of these charletons do for a living that has brought down our country. They are every bit as traitorous as any villain in American history.

Hazmat, Sarah Palin didn't release HER academic records either, for the four (or was it five?) colleges she bounced around among during the six years it took her to get a degree. Seems likely that President Obama's academic record (Columbia University, Harvard Law) would eclipse Sarah's.

Another thought about this post... Why is it... if you don't love "S" then you hate her? Why can you just disagree with her views or see things from a different point of view and let it go? It's get a bit tiresome for people to believe that if you don't agree with what the way they think, then your bad, stupid and driven by the devil. And this goes for both side of all discussions. Most everything is GREY anyway. Sarah opinions are hers. Some will agree, some not. Name calling solves nothing, and only gets name calling in return.

Quote: "I don't think most people associate the words 'impotent,' 'limp,' or 'gutless' with being gay. I know I certainly don't."

Which gives us all the more reason to think that those words, attacking their pride, are geared to hurting gays.

Strange that Ms. Palin chose those words in the first place. Unless, of course, notwithstanding her understanding that the words would hurt, she has personal, intimate knowledge about impotent sex.

Liberals' Sticks and Stones Losing Potency

Their media does its not so subtle best to paint conservatives with a blood brush from direct attacks (Time magazine asking is 'America Islamaphobic' -- meaning anyone who dares disagree with the liberal position on the mosque at Ground Zero is a racist) to the indirect assaults (CNN referring to the massive crowd at Glen Beck's 8/28 Washington rally as 'predominantly white' -- insinuating the crowd was a collection of racists). Those and all their attacks, have failed. For the first time in modern American political debate, the liberal label gun is jamming. Worse for liberals the bullets will likely never be effective again.

The single most important reason for all of the media fascination with Palin is ratings, or profit which is the same thing. The biggest bloc of news and opinion consumption in this country right now is on the right. Why do you think the mainstream media elevate even the most crazy conspiracy stories cooked up in the right wing noise machine? Because it keeps their stupid ratings up.

Look. We have a mainstream media today that has completely abandoned its formerly paramount mission of informing the public. Indeed, it is precisely the opposite mission that preoccupies them now: Misinforming the public. And they do it for profit. And why not. They are now nothing more than shills for their corporate masters. It is not the line of truth they are interested in. It is the bottom line. The profit line.

Don't kid yourselves folks. You're not in charge anymore. Everyone of you out there reading this are being herded this election year. And you think your opinions are your own? No, they aren't. You are being told if you are a liberal or a democrat that you might just as well stay in bed on election day. You are being told every single day by corporate shills in the media via the mechanism of their daily electronic polls how you should vote or whether it is even worth going to the polls. Every single thing I am hearing from the mainstream media is telling me that if I am a liberal or a democrat, I should stay home. If I am a supporter of President Obama, I should just surrender,
I don't stand a chance.

My reaction to them is: Screw you. I will not be herded by your polls. I will not be told to stay home so you can usher back in another corporate owned government.

You note that Ben Smith at POLITICO is steadily debunking some of the anecdotes in Gross' book. I would not trust Ben Smith or anyone else at POLITICO. POLITICO gets most of its energy from the right wing news and opinion consumers. Indeed, it is one of Rush Limbaugh's fav sites to quote from.

Note also that POLITICO's staff is primarily made up of young men who tend to hink with their testicles instead of their brains. I have watched and read POLITICO and it is clear to me that they--like a good many other "mainstream" news and opinion sites--have a synergistic relationship with the right wing propaganda apparatus. POLITICO loves Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

I'm tellin' you folks, you just can't rely on anything you read at POLITICO. They are big time into the tank for the right wing.

Actually, there's no need to bother. Every thinking person knows the answer already. SHE'S AFRAID TO DEBATE, 'CAUSE SHE'S ILL-INFORMED AND (RIGHTLY) FEARS THAT SHE WILL MAKE A FOOL OF HERSELF AGAIN, AS SHE DID WITH KATIE COURIC AND CHARLES GIBSON AND HER INFAMOUS CRIB NOTES.

Mrs. Palin has never held a press conference where reporters are allowed to ask questions and she answers. She prefers to communicate only to the true believers or by Tweets and Twits.

Her methods are so 13-year old. Make hit and run comments that no one can question her about.

I find this a common tactic among conservatives. I get emails all the time from conservatives about Obama and Muslims and anything else they can scaremonger about, but they don't want my response. As matter of fact, they get furious when I do respond.

Mrs. Palin has figured out the perfect way to get her childish messages out without having to read or hear any disagreement.

When I saw her saying this on the air, it seemed like she was telegraphing some sort of a warning to a would-be anonymous or not-so anonymous source.

Just because a source decides not to have his or her name publicized does not mean that the editorial staff at Vanity Fair does not know who these people are and has not independently confirmed their information. Anyone with any familiarity whatsoever about real journalism (not Fox advocacy station) would know this.

Ms. Palin could easily have cleared up any misconceptions by granting an interview to this guy. Most legitimate public figures of any ilk: speakers, politicians, reality show stars, even sports figures generally provide the media with some sort of access if only to clear up misconceptions.

The whole "Trig was not there" story is the ONLY piece of information in this story I have heard anyone say is untrue, so I can only assume the rest of it is accurate.

No one with any decency would use that sort of a trash mouth, let alone a mother of five and a so-called Christian. This confirms what the writer is suggesting about her persona. She attacks the messenger rather than clarifying the message.

This guy's sexual virility has absolutely nothing to do with the story. Clearly a distration on her part - and a very sexist one at that.

------------------------------------
Sorry to get off topic - but this companion story in the Post on Christine O'Donnell showcases the hypocrisy of today’s' Republican Party.

Apparently Sister Sarah can blather whatever nonsense pops into her skull, and the media headlines it while the GOP cheers her on.

Then the GOP accuses a Senate hopeful of actions Sarah is blatently guilty of, and the GOP approves of.

What does it say for our journalistic standards when Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are doing a better job of educating the public than our "major" newspapers?

Frankly, she is tough and can take it. I like her and her ideas. She is far more experienced than what is sitting in the WH today for sure. We have serious issues at hand and this administration obviously has no clue how to get us out. These are scary times.
When the attack dogs are called on command, you realize the worthless Democrats are feeling the heat. You can tell she is a threat. You are but little drones that they have trained to jump on their command. They just cannot stand it when the rest of us do not fall in line like you.

Ms Palin could put all of her critics down by taking half a dozen of the limpest and wimpiest of them on a moose hunt in the wilds of her home state. To prove them wrong, all she would have to do is find a willing critter, load her .30-06 Weatherby, take aim and blast that big old bull. If she really wanted to impress the crowd, she could go bag an Alaskan Brown Bear. Wow...what a visual that would make.

Think of it...She could make a pay-per-view event out of the butchery and show the world her Cajones at the same time. I, for one, would be happy to pay.

Memo to Sarah. Be careful what you say about yellow journalism. Rupert, as have been many media moguls, built empires on yellow journalism.

As a second point "anonymous sources" can be exceedingly powerful. "Deep Throat" who provided Mr. Woodward the info on Watergate that helped bring Nixon down is a classic example. Woodward protected his source and maintained his silence.

More recently, Judith Miller went to jail for 3 months for refusing to reveal her sources in the Valerie Plame investigation.

P.T. Barnum, I believe it was, said: "There is no such thing as bad publicity." Love her or hate her, but pul-eeze just write about Sarah Palin every chance you get, oh you sage media types.
That plays right into her hand.

What I suggest is a full month, or 30 days, which ever comes sooner, of total media silence on the issue of Queen Sarah.
No Vanity Fair, no NYTimes, not even any Fox News (except of course for her own show). She might just disappear into oblivion, where indeed she belongs.
Are the serious Republican candidates for the 2012 presidential elections--the Mitt Romneys, Mitch Daniels, etc.-- really going to stand for Sarah pre-empting the spotlight at every opportunity?

The GOP already is risking being split right down the middle between the thinking members of the species and the Tea Party wackos who want to roll back Medicare, Social Security and the 14th amendment and the right of people of color to vote, much less hold office.

Sarah in the spotlight can take the schism to a whole new level.

If Sharron Angle has her way and we get to that "second amendment solution" with guns at every political rally, Sarah will be keenly advantaged. Look for her to be up in the sky on a helicopter aiming a hunting rifle through a scope.

Moose and Democrats, beware!

You may have seen that Gov. Jan Brewer will also no longer talk to the "mainstream" press or participate in debates....probably because under the scrutiny of reporters she has been found wanting. Gov. Palin has chosen not to engage with the mainstream television, radio and print outlets -- perhaps it's even part of her contract with FOX. If she will not dispel rumors directly by appearing in interviews, she should be prepared to have others analyze what they can of her very public profile. Some articles are hatchet jobs, others are imperfect, but when someone has been presented as a Vice Presidential nominee (a heart-beat away...), the public should not be condemned for wanting to understand just who Gov. Palin is.

Suggesting that the whole Vanity article is a lie simply because the reporter incorrectly reported that Sarah was traveling with her special-needs son when in fact he was thousands of miles away in Alaska probably isn't a route that Sarah will want to pursue. The hard truth is that most of the time when Sarah is on the road -- which is most of the time time -- she is leaving her special-needs son in Alaska to be cared for by others. How is this pro-life? To me it is merely pro-birth. She seems to feel she owes him nothing beyond letting him be born. This is how many faux Christians feel, apparently.

I have always been able to sense the fact that Palin is not genuine. She is a fraud. The day that she was announced as McCain's running mate I researched who she was.
