Sharron Angle: I raise money off Fox appearances

The Las Vegas Sun has acquired audio of Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle speaking about her ability to raise money by appearing on Fox News shows like The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity.

According to The Sun, the audio is of Angle at a house party earlier this month. Here's the transcript:

Guest: Sharron, how are you doing as far as the fundraising?
Sharron Angle: It's going really well. If you're interested in just the Internet part of that -- and of course I've been criticized for saying that I like to be friends with the [press] -- but here's the deal: when I get a friendly press outlet -- not so much the guy that's interviewing me -- it's their audience that I'm trying to reach. So, if I can get on Rush Limbaugh, and I can say, "Harry Reid needs $25 million. I need a million people to send twenty five dollars to SharronAngle.com." The day I was able to say that [even], he made $236,000. That's why it's so important. Somebody...I'm going on Bill O'Reilly the 16th. They say, "Bill O'Reilly, you better watch out for that guy, he's not necessarily a friendly"...Doesn't matter, his audience is friendly, and if I can get an opportunity to say that at least once on his show -- when I said it on Sean Hannity's television show we made $40,000 before we even got out of the studio in New York. It was just [great]. So that's what I'm really reaching out to is that audience that's had it with Harry, and you can watch that happen when I go on those shows. Go on my website, it starts coming in. We have an automatic...when you put your name in there and it doesn't tell how much you gave, but it tells your name and where you're from. And so you can just watch it; it just rolls like this. In fact, with Rush Limbaugh we put it all down. We couldn't take the ticker going fast enough. And we've pulled in over [3,000,000] dollars just from that kind of a message going out.

This is not the first time Angle has mentioned the relative ease with which she can raise money via traditionally conservative outlets. She mentioned a similar sentiment to Christian Broadcasting News Network's David Brody in July when he asked her about the perception that she was avoiding traditional news outlets:

Well, in that audience will they let me say I need $25 from a million people go to Sharron Angle.com send money? Will they let me say that? Will I get a bump on my website and you can watch whenever I go on to a show like that we get an immediate bump. You can see the little spinners. People say 'Oh, I heard that. I am going and I'm going to help Sharron out because they realize this is a national effort and that I need people from all around the nation. They may not be able to vote for me but they can certainly help."

In August, Angle said in an interview with Fox News that she wanted the press "to ask the questions we want to answer, so that they report the news the way we want it reported."

Angle is in a competitive Senate race with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Lies about veteran's legislation need to be refuted immediately, especially when spouted by good Republican Patriots.

The American Dream Act gives immigrant status to families of non citizens who are already on active duty, or who enlist under its provisions. So it can hardly give "millions of illegal Immigrants" anything at all.

These ARE the vets you claim Reid is getting political points "at the expense of."

Since truth is another word you won't find properly defined in the official Republican Dictionary of Politically Operative Words it is meaningless to ask you to stick to the truth.

So we will point out your lies when you tell them.

The more I think about it...I'm all for the Tea Party platform...absolutely go back to the original Constitution. Being I'm from one of the original 13 colonies which the Constitution was really written for only, I expect the rest of this "fake America" to go back to Spain, France, Mexico, the Native Americans or where ever else you came from. In fact we'll sell all of this mess/YOU back to those original owners for the original price we paid (if they'll have you). After all this "buying property" & "taking away by force parts of other countries" to make a bigger USA was not in the Constitution either. Food for thought. And all you Tea Partiers Party - on! Can't wait until we have no standing Army per our original Constitution--our kids can come home from the Bush Wars!

We must make a obligation to rid ourselves of Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, as he is the disagreeable enemy of the taxpayer. Not just in the Silver state but crosses the whole of America with his undercurrent of financial issues, that outside of the Dream Act, if in power after November he will soak taxpayers for astronomical amounts of money to fund illegal alien amnesty. Harry Reid is a callous being, who is ruthless in forcing through another damaging amnesty, which is full of hidden costs that are not seen until taxpayers are confronted with the billions of dollars to be spent. Next in line is majority Nancy Pelosi and a whole group of politicians are thinking that if they adopt the Dream Act, a path to citizenship or amnesty for everybody who steps from a plane, or runs the flimsy gauntlet called the border fence. Attention--ALL--Nevadans’, you have seen your states serious unemployment, mass home foreclosures, that Sen. Harry Reid is directly accountable.

He ignored that hundreds of thousands of jobs hired have been served by unscrupulous casinos, the construction industry and all manner of businesses to the illegal alien households. This man has been fixated on pleasing the illegal alien population that has lowered wages and ruined the benefit packages of US workers. But truly this cannot be blamed on just illegal immigrants, but the greed of a large majority of business owners who hunger for cheap labor. The Tea Party and moderate Conservatives believe that if we can remove the major players in the Liberal-Democratic administration, the bipartisan acceptance--will build the original Border Fences as signed into law by President Bush. Not--ONE fence, But Two, spreads its security across the region separating Mexico from the US. Sen. Harry Reid, two Texas Republicans Kay Bailey Hutchinson, John Cornyn administered the coup-de-Grace on the 2006 Secure Fence Act.

That second 15 foot chain-link fence similar to a prison outside fence was to be wrapped with razor wire, from one end of America to the other. If the--ORIGINAL--border fence plans had been followed, it’s unlikely Governor Brewer would not be going to court, to protect the Arizona taxpayers. Another point is GOP, Republican--Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle as a new entrant to the halls of power can be shaped by public opinion, unlike Reid. We must remember that if we do not stop any form of Amnesty now, the teeming millions who want here will never stop, especially when America offers the rest of the world unlimited public benefits. We have observe this from the unlimited resources given to the babies receiving instant citizenship, starting with free pre-natal health care and then education for every child thereafter they give birth too. There is more than enough information that documents that Fox Noise is not a news network but a TV network with a political agenda that is directly working with the GOP to defeat Democrats and get Republican canidates elected.

Roger Ailes, its principal leader has been a paid staffer of Presidents Nixon, Reagan, Bush 41 and advised Bush 43 after 9/11. He has also been a paid staffer for Rudy Giuliani.

Within the last year Mr. Ailes, acting as an exective of Fox Network, directed a payment from the network be made to the GOP in the amount $1,000,000.

Fox maintains a long line of paid political contributors including Sarah Palin who are currently advising GOP canidates only appear on Fox because they will get "friendly questions" and be able to raise a great deal of money from Fox's viewers.

One only has to watch their long list of guests to see that they are totally committed to trashing everyone who is running against a Republican.

The President should have them removed from the White House Briefing room and any office space that they are assigned.

Their conduct is an insult to the words..fair and balanced. It is sort of like what my mother told me years ago.."If you have to say it about yourself, it probably is not true"....

In August, Angle said in an interview with Fox News that she wanted the press "to ask the questions we want to answer, so that they report the news the way we want it reported."

In other words, throw her softball questions so she can spin it to make her look good. Angle is fine with media bias so long as its slanted toward her point of view. She thinks like a typical politician, so why do Tea Partiers think things are going to change in Washington if she is elected?

FormerDemocrat, can you imagine the howls of protest from Hannity and other FOX pundits if the WaPo interviewed a candidate and allowed them to beg for money during the interview? Hannity would be screaming about the liberal bias of the mainstream media; but it seems he is guilty of blatant partisnship himself. Fair and Balanced? Spare me. FOX and the conservatives are again guilty of being the pot calling the kettle black.

Leave it to Sharron Angle to actually come out and say to the world Fox is just one big infomercial and propaganda channel for the Republican Tea Party. They are going to be so angry with her over this. Heavens, but that woman is stupid. And didn't you like Christine's comment to Hannity? She had "business in New York, so thank you for having me on" but no....she's not doing any national tv....except FOX infomercials. Those she's going out of her way to do.

Posted by: blosmurph | September 22, 2010 11:03 PM | Report abuse

She wanted the press "to ask the questions we want to answer." Tea Partiers claim to be super patriots who stand up for the constitution and American values; and yet so many of the candidates they have put up this year like Angle and O'Donnell have a 6th grade understanding of the Constitution and how the American system of checks and balances is suppose to work. How can a candidate for high federal office say something like this??? It shows a fundamental gap in her understanding of the very reasons that we want to maintain a free and vigorous press and why our founders put freedom of the press into the 1st amendment - i.e. to keep candidates like her honest and let the voters better assess what she's made of.

We must be able to go back and examine her record and, like a lawyer cross examining a witness, bring out the inconsistencies and errors that bear on her credibility as a candidate and her fitness for office. But you see, conservatives do not and never have viewed the press this way. Unless the press says exactly what they want the press to say, and ask the questions they want to answer, then the press is to be labeled the "liberal media" or "the lame stream media" or the "drive by media."

The beauty of Fixed News is that it gives them exactly what they want - a compliant press that rarely criticizes them and asks them the softball questions they want to answer. And then there is the added bonus of preaching to a choir of conservative viewers who hang on their every word and send them money.

Democrats, for God's sake - get off your sorry butts and vote on Nov. 2. Don't abdicate our government to this crop of cornballs from the Tea Party Express. If not, you're going to love the show that goes on in early January when these crack pots show up in Congress. You're going to love 6 years of Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell.

How refreshing, a candidate being forthright about the media.

I've been consulting campaigns on their communications for more than 20 years and the way Angle talks is exactly how candidates hope the media works for them.

There's nothing nefarious or suspicious about what Angle says. That is precisely how it's done and precisely the outcome the candidates want.

It's like Willie Sutton said.

If Willie had been running for office, he would have looked for the suckers where they were--and now they are at home in front of the tube watching Fox-porn.

Running for office is so much easier than robbing banks.

Oh my God! A candidate goes on TV to get some face time to increase their donations.

It's a form of fundraising.

Why do you people think you see candidates running for office all over TV these days? To raise money.

At least she's honest enough to tell the truth. How refreshing.

And most candidates, especially Democrats Reps Weiner and Wasserman are experts at twisting the answers to the interviewers questions to spout their talking points to evade answering the questions.

Oh, and Obama's an expert at ignoring the question and twisting the truth, too. He did it just the other day at the town hall meeting.

You know which audio you should write about, the tape that came out this week of Blago saying that his relationship with Rezko is "pristine" next to Obama's.

Now THAT would be news.

___________
Fightfortheright,

How dare you speak for me when you speak about "preserving 'our' liberty and freedom." I have experienced fewer restrictions on my freedom since President Obama was elected and absolutely no loss of liberty since then. The worst periods for this in my lifetime were during the Reagan and G. W. Bush presidencies, because they had allowed their goon base and fellow travelers to physically threaten people who held different opinions than the ruling party. For example, I remember very clearly hearing Michael Savage in the early 2000's toying with threatening violence against anyone who protested the Iraq invasion. I never remember reading about leading Republicans calling him and others to task for this behavior.

I also don't notice the government reaching into my private decisions as much as just a few years ago.

Thus, you are surely going overboard in claiming that "we" all should fear loss of liberty and freedom from the Obama administration. I strongly favor the Health Care Bill, because it gives consumers more realistic choices. For example, one really has no realistic choices when the insurance company suddenly drops you from coverage when it discovers you have a major illness.

I actually feel that the Obama administration is slowly returning the government functions and policy to sanity. For example, he is not hiding the costs of the American war through fraudulent budget tricks, as President G.W. Bush did, or creating 300-billion-dollar unfunded mandates such as his tax cuts or Presciption Drug Coverage.

I would suggest that you learn to read and think critically, rather than mindlessly repeating right-wing talking points. I fear that you are in danger of losing your capacity for reasoning.

The second you say "left wing radical" you lose all credibility. Ditto the words --socialist, Kenyan, islamofascism, communist, fascist, Ayers, Wright or ACORN. Using the words instantly identifies you as an unthinking drone of the right wing media machine. You clearly do not understand the "big words" you sould have learned in 9th grade social studies class, or the lack of significance of things like ACORN, Ayers or Wright.

And if you are stilla birther or beleive that the President is Muslim you border on mentally challenged. PLain and simple. It is like claiming that the moon is made of cheese.
