Book thrown at Obama during Philadelphia rally

UPDATE OCT. 12: Streaker Juan J. Rodriguez of Staten Island, N.Y., has confirmed that he was motivated by the chance for a $1 million prize, which he offered to share with President Obama.

"I didn't do anything that hurt anybody," he said.
As for people in the crowd who might have been offended, he said he didn't think it was a big deal. "It's just the human body," he said.
He said he hoped Obama "didn't take it that harsh."
"I think he's a great guy. I think he's doing a great job for this country," he said. Rodriguez offered to contribute some of the money to a charity of the president's choice.

Rodriquez, who is unemployed, hopes to use some of the money to open an Internet cafe.

"My family needs the money, my sister needs an operation and it's not cheap," he told the New York Post.

Billionaire David, however, is hedging on whether Rodriguez's stunt qualifies for the prize.

"It's still not confirmed," David, 42, told the Daily News on Monday. "Whether he was in earshot and eyesight of the President is what's being debated right now."

David added that there's a law in Pennsylvania against anyone profiting off a legal act that could keep Rodriquez from claiming the cash.

UPDATE OCT. 11: CBS' Mark Knoller tweeted Monday that "Secret Service says it interviewed book thrower & deemed there was no threat intended - he just wanted Obama to have a copy of his book." AP adds:

The Secret Service says it questioned and released an "overexuberant" fan of President Barack Obama who had tossed a paperback book near the president at a Philadelphia rally on Sunday.
Spokesman Ed Donovan said the man had written the book and hoped the president would read it. Donovan said agents concluded the man posed no danger.

At the end of President Obama's big rally Sunday in Philadelphia, someone threw a small paperback onstage. The president appeared not to notice the book whizzing past his head:

You can see it clearly in this Reuters photo -- but not clearly enough to make out a title:

A naked man was arrested in a separate incident at the same rally. He was apparently trying to win a reward from British billionaire Alki David, who offered $1 million to the first person to streak at an Obama rally while advertising his video-sharing website.

"Is it ignorance or are you just repeating a lie often enough and hoping someone might believe it? Only 33% of the REGISTERED voters voted in the last election. Registered voters are less than 40% of the people eligible to vote in the U.S. Of that 33%, 52% voted for BH O'Carter. BH O'CARTER WAS ELECTED BY LESS THAN 20% OF THE ELIGIBLE VOTERS IN THE U.S. And, 80% are really ticked off at him."

You might want to check your math.

There were 131,257,328 people that voted. If that was only 1/3rd of the Registered voters, as you claim, that means that there would be 393,771,984 Registered voters. If Registered voters are only 40% of the Voting Eligible Population, that would mean that there are 984,429,960 voting eligible people living in the United States. And when you consider that not everybody is a voting eligible population, that would mean that according to your own numbers, there are well over 1 billion people living in the United States.

There are only, according to Official Census data Estimates, 310,469,526 people living in the United States. Not all of these people are of voting age, and not all of them are citizens.

Estimates of the voting-age turnout (not registered voter turnout) that I've seen showed that about 61.6% of the Population turned out to vote for President. Of that 61.6% of the voting eligible population, 52% voted for Barack Obama. The other 39.4% could not be bothered to express a preference for President, so if they don't show up, their voice doesn't count.

So, Barack Obama got 69,456,897 votes, out of a voting eligible population of 213,231,835. If you check, that is about 33% of the Voting Eligible Population. However, using that as a statistic is misleading, since many people gave up their voice and their say in the election by not voting. That means that Barack Obama was elected by 52% of the people that actually bothered to vote, which is a majority.

By the way. The percentage turnout of the Voting Eligible Population is actually higher than any election since 1964. That must mean that you consider every President since at least then to be completely illegitimate because they were not elected by a majority of the population, according to you.

Re: "natural born citizen"

As long as you're born in the US, you're a "natural born citizen", even if your parents were aliens. The law is quite clear on this. Since Obama was born in Hawaii, he is a "natural born citizen".

Well, by your own comment, where were they when they had the chance to vote?

and

Since Obama got 53% of those that voted one might suspect that he was favored by roughly 53% of those that didn't vote. Unless a lot of people who formerly voted for him are now mad at him, we are stil a long way from having a majority unhappy with him.

Wrong again on every "statistic" you used here. According to the Census Bureau [http://www.census.gov/prod/2010pubs/p20-562.pdf], 90% of REGISTERED voters voted in 2008 and registered voters make up 71% of people eligible to vote. 64% of eligible voters voted in 2008. Obama got 53% of the vote, so about 33% of eligible voters in the US voted for him. McCain got 46% or about 29% of eligible voters. Obama still got more votes than any other candidate and 67% of the electoral vote -- a large majority. So who's the ignorant one? Not DC Sage.

This naked guy at that Comrade Leader from
Kenya Barack Hussein Obama Rally could very
well also have been used as an example of
how Skinflint Democrats Barack Obama and
Multi-Million Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi,a
leading California Employer of Illegal Aliens and Harry Reid are even stealing the clothes right off your body these days,
so that Barack Hussein Obama and Michelle
"let them eat cake" Obama and the $66Million Dollar Nancy Pelosi can live high off the hog and even steal us disabled
senior citizens 2010 and 2011 COLAs,just so
Obama can go play endless golf, party it up
at the White House, jet set around to make phony baloney telepromoter reading photo ops and Michelle Obama can keep taking her
million dollar vacations in Spain and Nancy
and Paul Pelosi live a life of luxury...So
too bad that book that was thrown at Obama
wasn't his Impeachment and Federal Grand Jury Felony Indicments for Obama's Crimes
Against America by the sleazy Kenyan Comrade Barack Hussein Obama as well.

First, I did not write "millioneth", since that would be wrong, so you are in error there. Second, while there are requirements about age of parent and/or time spent in the US that are different now than they were when Obama was born, the fact remains that even if he was actually born in Kenya to his under-18 mother -- as the birthers assert -- she would have had to have been a resident of Kenya, and out of the US for a certain period of time to be ineligible to pass along her citizenship. Neither of these were the case, and no birther has proved that they were. My IQ might not be 168, but I don't keep concocting elaborate fantasies to fit absolutely false assertions. Truth and birtherism are mutually exclusive.

To dansmith who wrote "for the millioneth time" ... "if either parent is a US citizen, as his mother clearly was." Nooo. There are some reqirements about the age of the purported American parent and time in US at time of birth of child. Maybe you would have to repeat something "for the millioneth time" if you would clorrectly state the facts/truth inititally.

Especially the part of slave management.

When Christine O'Donnell was asked to briefly discuss Roe v. Wade. She said that was the decision made by George Washington in crossing the Delaware.

P.S. The quote you've seen on the t-shirts of Tea Party members .... "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible." - George Washington .... He never said it. ;o)

dansmith:
For about the millionth time, you birthers do not have your facts straight about who is and is not an American citizen.
1. Anybody born in the US is automatically a citizen, regardless of who his or her parents are, unless they are children of foreign diplomats. Why do you think there's all the anti-immigrant ranting about "anchor babies" going on? Try reading Section 1 of the 14th Amendment.
2. It doesn't matter where Obama or anybody else is born outside the US if either parent is a US citizen, as his mother clearly was. She automatically passes on her citizenship to him in almost all cases. McCain would have been a US citizen no matter where he was born because his parents were American citizens. This resolution was introduced by Democrats -- Obama included -- to stop ignorant people from claiming McCain was not a citizen because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone.
But I realize you birthers never let facts get in the way of your hysterical anti-Obama rants, and that I wasted my time typing this.

After November a LOT of politicians from both parties are going to be out of work and writing books. After 2012 Obama will be asking Carter for hints in how to write a book and build a house! Obama and others forgot that they got elected to do make serious changes and have not. Obama promised both gays and blacks jobs and that hasn't worked either. The new Marine Corps Commandant basically called Obama's bluff on DADT. Obama could not have afforded another firing of a senior general and Barney's turn at SecDef went into the toilet. Meanwhile Americans are still denied access to the same health-dental care that all members of congress and their families get free at taxpayer expense.

Obama's treatment of the Israeli Prime Minister a few months back, and his demonstrated insensitivity to Israelis in general now has Israelis 'throwing shoes' at Obama's image on TV.

Is my memory bad, or didn't he promise us that he was going to change the image of America abroad?? Elements of Europe are now blaming the US for the lagging world wide economy (note some of the latest comments from the IMF).

The world is beginning to get the idea that Obama does not have the foggiest idea of what he is doing!!

Both gave tax cuts to the rich and both gave us high unemployment because of it. Oh not to mention the enormous amount of debt Bush and Reagan piled on us. But other than that, yeah sure they were fine men.

dansmith,

Why is it that GOP supporters love to show how ignorant they are on posts? The constitution says nothing about your parents being born in the US. Of course using World News daily doesnt help your case. So here is what constitutions.net Says about Article 2 section 1 of the constitution:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Notice how parents arent mention. Man you guys are so gullible.

We MUST stand behind our President and give him the support and respect he deserves to continue the fight to restore this nation."

We HAVE looked at Obama's actions (and his majority party's) over the last 21 months. That's why his (and their) poll numbers are so low and this election is worrying them so much.

If we liked what we are seeing, the republicans wouldn't have a chance.

This doesn't seen terribly difficult to understand to me...

I am sure that Obama is NOT a "natural born Citizen" and is
NOT "eligible" to be President under Article II, section 1, clause 5.
Both "Parents" must have been a u.s. citizen when he born. Obama's father
was never a u.s. citizen. Obama II was born a British subject.
To this date there is no "Legal"
proof of his citizenship status.
The "COLB" offered as proof only
proves that his father was a Kenyan. There are several "lawsuits" still on the books. Sooner, or later the "truth" will come out.

Any President that is interested in supporting the average working people and closing the financial gap between the rich and poor will never be popular with the Republicans. They are getting lots of help in their fight because of the color of this president. It's very sad that these people are using their hatred instead of their heads. It hurts to see what's happening. We have so much at stake. I wish these people would get angry about the right things.

Obama sounds more and more like a televangelist preaching to hear the sound of his own voice than the POTUS.

What happened to the sincere, connect with the people manner we expect from a president?
We elected a community organizer - televangelist-celebrity wanna be --instead of a leader of the people. (He should watch a couple of Clinton speeches that border on shout and stomp without going over the line.)

Obama is preaches, misinforms, with his voice rising as he damns those who have the audacity to question his methods and motives.

He reaches a few who are in favor of the big time entitlements but dismisses those who just want back their jobs and independence from government.

He needs a different job -- he is still the community organizer, concerned about the few and unable to reach or care about all the people.

No more, please! He is insulting as a president.

As a writer of a novel "Rage Against Jihad", available through Amazon.com I think that the person who threw his book at President Obama has found a new way to promote a book. However, I think he/she was lucky not to have been shot by the Secret Service.

Rumor has it the book was titled "How To Create Jobs"...The author indicated that since the President had never had any experience in this arena, perhaps he might want to read a couple of chapters. The White House responded, "We have added millions of government jobs. There is no future in private industry under this administration so we have no need for the President to read this book."

Most of the comments seem to come from very naive and shallow-thinking people. President Obama has been heroic and courageous as well as "right on" in tackling the country's collected garbage pile of problems that he inherited from the greedy, conniving, lying, cronyists--the Bushes, Cheney, Rove and all the "fat Cats" who benefitted hugely from the tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 % of the U.S. populatiion, got us into a bogus war in Iraq to protect their own extensive oil interests, let Cheney's business associates make billions in the so-called restoration of Afghanistan, got hundreds of young Americn soldiers killed by giving them inadequate protective clothing and weapons, made us the shame of the international community by torturing prisoners in defiance of International Rules of War for Prisoners, made us seem isolationist and full of the worsst kind of pride as well as having sug-normal intelligence by going-it-alone in warfare in two areas of the world known for thousands of years as unconquerable (Iraq and Afghanistan), decimated our schools and gave us the largest prison system and population in the world, spyed on as many people as possible, made legal immigration totally a trial and inspection for terrorists at airports and other ports a bureaucratic snarl of inefficiency, caused thousands of deaths of humans and animals by their slow, incompetent handling of the New Orleans and Gulf Coast Hurricane damages, turned blind eyes as their cronies robbed millions through bogus banking, credit and housing schemes and allowed themselves and other CEO;s to make obscenely large salaries--and on and on with the misdeeds of the two Bushes and of Reagan. The brief interval of prosperity, balanced budget and parit under Clinton, even though marred by his sexual addiction and misbehavior, still was our only respite for many years from the unethical, conniving and scheming, greedy Republicans who know more about Walt Disney than they do about governing. MY HOPE IS THAT EVERY THINKING U.S. CITIZEN WILL GET OUT AND VOTE FOR OBAMA NO MATTER HOW MANY SHAMEFUL ATTACK ADS THE
LAW-BREAKING CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE PUT OUT TO TRY AND GET ELECTED "THEIR BOYS"(& THE CHEERLEADER-TYPE WOMEN WHO WORK WITH THEM) ELECTED.THE ADS RE THE WOMEN, ESPECIALLY NANCY PELOSI ARE SHAMEFULLY SEXIST AS WELL AS DESPICABLE IN OTHER WAYS. I voted for Obama with great enthusiasm and would be the first to say that Obama's performance has been a bit disappointing so far (for me, not doing near enough to change), but displaying such disrespect for a president who has been working tirelessly to deal with so many adversities created by his predecessor is just unforgiving.

But on the other hand, the incident succinctly tells what's wrong with America now - the landscapes, not just political and financial, but also social, is plainly poisonous. We've copied what's happening in the Middle East (maybe this is just natural as we've been intimately involved with that place for how long now?). "We" do things with the sole purpose of just hurting "them". I bet bin Laden could never have imagined in his wildest dreams such success. Now who are the crusaders and who are the infidels in America? I'm sure people like Glen Beck would have no problem telling us.

I would have thought that this would have gotten more play than it has, in the Media. I remember when George Bush had something thrown at him, the Media went WILD. It was GREAT. It was FUNNY. Every Media Outlet wanted to be the first to score an interview, with the worlds' latest "Celebrity".
I wonder why THIS INCIDENT is being so hushed up? Isn't it FUNNY this time around? Isn't this Naked Guy a new FOLK HERO? Why isn't he being LIONIZED by the LEFT?
Why am I asking things that I already know the answer to?

I'm sure Obi-Won was far too busy reading TOTUS to notice.

Leave it to a right wing screwball to hurl something at the President. This person should be arrested and jailed for life. And then when the truth comes out about the GOP, Wall St. bigwigs, and the US Chamber selling our country to the highest bidder they all can have a reunion in a Federal Prison.

Who besides Republicans has ever said Democrats thought of Obama as a messiah?

Lighten up, "realist". The rally wasn't limited to Democrats. Obama was never anyone's messiah; that was just a perjorative talking point of the right. Finally, socialism is clearly a concept you know nothing about. Have a happy Columbus Day!

Well, there's one GOP voter who won't be voting. Assault on the President is a capital offense. The next time his pants are down will be in prison. Wonder if he'll still be laughing when Bubba socks it to him.

At this time, The Washington Post has no comment on the choice of reporter to cover this story. Or should I say "uncover"?

Wow - now even those that support the Democrats are turning against Obama as they throw things at their one-time messiah. Two years of socialism is scaring away all independents and a good many Democrats!
