Palin attacks Politico for 'crap' story, tells anonymous sources to 'man up'

Updated at 11:53 a.m.

Sarah Palin is pushing back hard on a Politico story reporting that top Republicans wanted to stop her from winning the presidential nomination in 2012.

"There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of them regard as a disaster in waiting," the paper reported. "Many of these establishment figures argue in not-for-attribution comments that Palin's nomination would ensure President Barack Obama's reelection."

Palin responded with derision. "Politico, Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei, they're jokes. This is a joke to have unnamed sources tearing somebody apart limb by limb," Palin told Fox News's Greta Van Susteren Sunday. "If they would man up and if they would, you know, make these claims against me then I can debate them, I can talk about it, but to me they're making stuff up again." She railed against unnamed sources, concluding: "I don't think the paper that we just printed this article on, you know, it's not worth even wrapping my King Salmon in. I'll just ignore this crap."

It wasn't even her first anti-media crusade of the day; on Fox News Sunday she declared that "corrupt bastards" in the Alaska press were conspiring against her preferred Senate candidate, Joe Miller.

On Laura Ingraham's radio show Monday, Mitt Romney defended Palin, saying the story was nonsense and the former governor would be great for the 2012 primary process. (Of course, Romney is hardly an uninterested observer -- he's already readying for his own 2012 bid.) Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele also came to Palin's defense during an appearance Monday on CNN. "These Republican leaders who don't put their names in print but make comments in shadows need to shut up," Steele said.

Everybody loves Sarah. She'd be perfect in the White House issuing edicts, fatwas, ukases, and directives as Unitary Executive. Momma Grizzly will take no opposition from either party. She'll still call Africa a country and be unable to name a single Supreme Court opinion that she doesn't favor. You will be able to argue the point, and lose, whether the U.S. Constitution permits or doesn't the establishment of her religion as a state religion. Social Security will be transfered to J.P. Morgan Chase for liquidation into the pockets of JPMC high-level executives. Medicare and Medicaid will be ended. Sick people will be thrown bodily to the curb. Unions will be outlawed. Chapel attendance will be mandatory. Everyone will learn how to field dress a moose. Everything progressive that has been enacted since 1896 will be repealed. Talk about Heaven on Earth for plutocrats.

Progressives and regressives welcome a Palin candidacy. She won't talk to newspapers. One can only hope that by next year she starts to read one. If we are waiting for Palin to "wise-up", it will be a very long wait.

Odd that someone so ostensibly sensitive to slurs should use the word "bastards" to insult someone. Even though the word has lost some of its pejorative sting, her own grandson is literally a "bastard," having been born to unmarried parents. Will she apologize to Bristol? Not to mention, all Americans born to unwed parents? --Or more likely, she is so ignorant that she doesn't realize she's demeaned them.

I hope that more people will pay more attention to Sarah Palin's mode of operation and her response to news stories that she dislikes. If she wants to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate, she needs to start talking more about issues in a substantive way. She also needs to stop hiding from media organizations that might give the rest of us a truly "fair and balanced" view of her abilities.

Palin talks about corrupt media as if she isn't in the thick of it. But irony is lost on simple minds

Posted by: jakefree | November 1, 2010 4:09 PM | Report abuse

Van Sustern says Palin should be "...taken on on the issues."

I'm sure politicians and journalists would LOVE to take Mrs. Palin on on the issues, however, she never talks about issues so that would be impossible.

And, Sarah, this became "real journalism" about the time your career became "real politics."

Truly, Sarah Palin has no fear about burning bridges, even the ones that go no where and cost the rest of us in the lower 48 millions.

In August 2009 Palin, her husband, her literary agent, and her now "retired" assistant dined in off hours at "Michael's" restaurant in NYC. Palin was so excited about being a faux elite that she called Politico reporter Mike Allen at 10:45 PM at night to tell him where she was and that she was just wrapping up her Harper-Collins "Going Rogue" deal.

And Mike Allen has given Palin the benefit of the doubt throughout the past year despite some of her more egregious hasty erroneous statements.

Now, she hates him and excoriates him through every medium at her disposal. I'm sure Mike Allen appreciates being used, abused, and now thrown under Palin's proverbial bus. It's sure getting crowded under there.

I saw Palin on Fox yesterday and I shut her off within five minutes because she has demonstrated to me that she has no understanding of economics and the reasons why the economy will not roar back in two years.

She makes accusation of conspiracy against Joe Miller without offering any kinds of evidence nor producing it. It doesn't help that Chris Wallace was tossing questions that are easy on her instead of the usual toughness I expected from him to other guests.

You can tell she is trying to control the points of the conversation with Wallace which is why she only appears on Fox News.

The fact that Palin endorsed not one, but many sub-standard candidates doesn't do a lot for her credibility as a decision maker. What would happen when people's lives were actually at stake and we had to rely on Palin as our "Decider". Every indicator points to her being worse than GW.

Sara Palin has shouted "man up" several times recently, as has that Sharron Angyl and Christine O'Donnell. To me, sounds like "man up" is Sara Palin's talking point and she is passing it on to her fellow female candidates! (Notice I did not use the word "lady" candidates.

I really think Palin has too much testosterone, she sounds more and more like Rod Blojoivich every day..... screaming, screeching, pleading, imploring, insulting, blaming the press, arguing, talking and screaming and saying nothing, etc., etc. And, both of them have all that hair that they use to hide their angry faces!

So... I say to Palin....YOU man up! If you ever plan on running for president, you better start going on interviews like Meet the Press instead of hiding in Facebook and Twitter, writing and answering your own questions!

PS: Tell those other two empty headed candidates.... Angyl and O'Donnell to also "man-up!" I'm surprised men put up with hearing that from them during this election process! Palin sounds more and more like what she really is..... a Wasilla Hillbilly!

First of all, the GOP has to give Palin the nom over the likes of Huck or Romney or Gingrich. Pretty unlikely.

Let's say she does get her party's nomination. Ok, fine. That gives her a solid 12 months to make a fumble costly enough for Obama to win a 2nd term. Given 12-18 months of nonstop media coverage, it's almost a certainty.

I am really sick of reading about Sarah (loud mouth) Palin. Since introduced on the political sense; she has worked relentless to divide this country down race lines. And look at us, she has been 100% successful. Men are hitting women they don't know, people yelling and matching down the streets of Washington, DC with posters of our President painted as the joker character, women making sexiest commends on the campaign trail and saying all kind disrespectful things from their mouth like "man-up". None of this type of disrespect for each other happened until Sarah Palin campaigned with John McCain.

We need to get back to our basics without Sarah Palin, we need to return to civility for each.

GOOD BYE - FOREVER - SARAH PALIN!

CAN YOU BELIEVE OUR TRAITOR IN CHIEF HAS CALLED US CITIZENS ENEMIES?

--From Boehner’s prepared remarks: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a president in the White House who referred to Americans who disagree with him as ‘our enemies.’ Think about that. He actually used that word. When Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush used the word ‘enemy,’ they reserved it for global terrorists and foreign dictators -- enemies of the United States. Enemies of freedom. Enemies of our country. Today, sadly, we have president who uses the word ‘enemy’ for fellow Americans -- fellow citizens. He uses it for people who disagree with his agenda of bigger government -- people speaking out for a smaller, more accountable government that respects freedom and allows small businesses to create jobs. Mr. President, there's a word for people who have the audacity to speak up in defense of freedom, the Constitution, and the values of limited government that made our country great. Man up & shut up Sarah. Stop trying to bully anyone who says anything negative about your holier-than-thou self. Don't like it? Tough, nobody cares.

I'd LOVE to see her run for Pres -- it would be a riot! If she'd do an interview with anyone but Fox then she might have a point, but, as she well knows, she'd also make (more of) a fool of herself.

Until then, stop whining & grow a thicker skin. Politics is not a game for whiny crybabies like Palin.

It would seem the corrupt bastard might be Mr. Miller, not the press that reported the facts. And yes, I'd think some Republican leaders might be giving some long thoughts to Ms. Pallin as a presidential nominee. She has the biggest unfavorables of anybody out there. Now that would unite a lot of voters presently unfocused! And it would not be to Ms. Palin's, nor the Republican Party's advantage. The real pros, not the beauty queen, reality show, money grubbing Palin, know this. They must be sweating bullets at the thought of her as candidate. And we should sweat bullets at even entertaining the thought of her as president. If there is much more than a conniving cunning brain behind that very lovely exterior, it's hard to see.

Is she an example of the triumph of lookism over substance? Quite possibly. She is certainly fetching to look at. She reminds me of the Head Cheerleader in high school who enrolled in the Secretarial program. And my apologies to the Secretaries of the world.

It might be amusing to see her run. If she has to actually answer real political questions she'll expose her utter lack of intellect and competence.

She didn't quit her position as Governor because of concern for the State of Alaska. She quit because her hair was falling out.

I have no sympathy for her. May she reap the havoc she tries to sow.

I think if the GOP wins any majority in congress they increase their chances of losing in 2012 because the voting public seems to not want one party controlling all of government. They want to feel there is balance between congress and the executive branch. As far as Palin, I think the first woman president should be a little sharper than she is. Any president for that matter. She comes off as a kind of airhead who can dish out insults and attacks but cant take them when they are given back to her. I know there is a better woman GOP candidate than her. Maybe not as attractive looking but better.

The phrase "man up" originated in street vernacular a la A Bronx Tale or Bound by Honor; used among neighborhood boys who were in ethnically mixed areas or areas that had a significant level of gang activity. Jocks, particularly ones involved in contact sports like football or rugby later adopted the phrase.

However, coming from someone like Sarah Palin, I can see your point. She grew up in majority white Wasilla and her basketball status was given her by her father, who was the head coach. She quit based on lies; ethics complaints were less than $300k; not millions; state offered to cover portion of her legal costs, which she declined and the costs to state were routine budget expenses, no OT or extra burden. Biggest portion of cost was her own doing; filing complaint against herself in Troopergate probe.

She urges others to "man up" yet refuses to grant interviews to any media but Fox unless it is somehow extolling her frontier woman mythology like the new "documentary."
Kind of hard to take seriously a woman who thinks tweets, Facebook postings and the Fox echo chamber count as serious debate or
policy platforms. When will she Face the Nation or Meet the Press and actually face real questions? So far, all of her claims have been discredited, ranging from the costs of ethics complaints to Alaska's energy output; claims AK produces 20 percent of gross U.S. energy; facts from the Department of Energy showed AK makes less than 2.9 percent of gross domestic energy. Her Facebook posting about Fannie & Freddie was a distortion. The subprime crisis was not caused by govt mandates to lend to people who could not repay (code for minorities). Facts show over 80% of subprime loans issued by unregulated private mortgage banks who had no Community Reinvestment Act(CRA) obligations. Over 70% of borrowers were white, non-Hispanic middle income borrowers. Less than 10% of CRA covered lenders issued subprime loans.

Palin, like Hitler and Mussolini, offers glaring simplicity;soundbite solutions to complex issues, all wrapped up in nationalism and religious symbology. Only difference is they at least had some interest in policy heavy lifting. Palin's exec experience is a smokescreen; little more than a figurehead. In Wasilla, city manager John Cramer ran city and as governor, she only showed up 15% of legislative sessions. However, she, like Nazis and fascists of long ago, offers easy solutions: small town rural white evangelicals are "real Americans," implying educated urbanites/suburnites and minorities are subhuman scum worthy of eradication. Her disdain for intellect and education is as transparent as glass; threatened by people smarter than her.

This is another sur-reality show -- Gov. Palin is told about demeaning comments, so she hits back with demeaning comments. It makes for peppy sound bites and entertaining TV (on Fox!), but is not serious. I imagine more than Republican advisers are worried about Gov. Palin....she is delusional, but popular with a vocal contingent. Her idea of truth is that it is extremely flexible and can be manipulated. People inherently feel a bit sorry for delusional people and don't want to be the person that brings their world crashing down, but that is what will eventually happen. Fox is well placed for this coming showdown -- it has both Karl Rove and Gov. Palin on the payroll, so they may get to face off in a debate. If Fox sides with Gov. Palin over the "establishment" Republicans, someone like Gov. Romney will have to use other media outlets for his publicity.
