Report: Defeated Dems writing letter asking Pelosi to step down

By Matt DeLong

Citing a "House Democratic source," Fox News says it has a letter being penned by an unknown number of defeated House Democrats pleading with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to step down from party leadership.

In the letter, which has no names attached to it, the authors praise Pelosi as a "historic figure in our great nation" but warn that Republicans will continue to "demonize" her and scare off potential Democratic candidates. "The prospect of having to run against their own party leadership, in addition to their Republican opponent is simply too daunting," the authors write, adding that "one mark of a strong leader is the ability to discern when it is time to pass the baton."

Read the full letter here.

So far, no Democrats have announced their intentions to challenge Pelosi, who tweeted on Friday that she intends to run for House minority leader. However, as The Post's Paul Kane notes today, many Democrats are enraged by the huge losses the party suffered during last week's midterm elections. Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), a one-term conservative Blue Dog Democrat, made some rumblings before the election about a possible challenge.

Comments

"Put the blame on Mame, Boys" an old refrain to pick on a woman. Frankly, it's the Blue Dogs who cost us the election. President Obama allowed them to water down the Health care reform and away from Medicare for everyone-a proven winning program that levels the playing field, just as its Mother program Sopcial Security. Blue Dogs need to join the Republican Party so it can get back to being just conservatives, INSTEAD OF CONTROLLED BY RADICALS LIKE RAND PAUL AND JIM DEMINT. Speaker Pelosi has done an outstanding job with little hlep from the Democratic Party leaders at the DNC, or, even the President. The person who should step aside is the prospective Speaker, John Boehner, who supported a Nazi Military fan, Congressman, took pictures with him, campaigned for him and gave him $7,500. Fortunately, Rep. Iott lost; but the stain of a Speaker, third in line to the Presidency, should represent the People's House, is shameful. Even the Republican Senate had enough sense and patriotism to force Trent Lott to step aside as Majority Leader when he praised the history of Strom Thurmond, you remember the Senator who supported segregation, separate and unequal education, housing, public accomodations, not to mention dogs and fire hoses for Black Americans who sought the protection of the Constitution. Mr. Boehner's support of Iott is equally as outrageous and in one way, far worse: He championed a man who "respected" Nazi military prowess, wore its uniform-the same one other Nazi saoldiers wore in WWII as they took aim and fired, and killed American soldiers on the battlefield-That's what Mr. Boehner did not condemn. He needs to step aside and let a member of Congress who respects American life lead his Party.

The right is afraid of Nancy. If the dems give in and allow this very intelligent and persuavise leader to be silenced, it will usher in the reign of the tea party. Nancy Palosi is the most effective House Speaker in the past century. I hope the dems don't give in to pressure.

Wasn't this story already debunked? Or is the WaPo now buying into the lies at Fox.

Fox News is a source??? Hasn't the press learned their lesson, yet, to not get your story assignments from the right wing mob?

Pelosi is the epitome of what is detested in politicians. She bullies, shows disdain and contempt for anyone not sharing her views, too partisan to be an effective leader of the House and too narcisstic and power hungry to realize her time is up.

Even if she does remain as minority leader, she needs to give up the 200 seat AF party jet. She is not that entitled or important to the taxpayers forced to fund her luxury ride!

The GOP is behind Nancy staying on as Head of teh House Democrats - her staying on, along with limp-wristed Reid, and Obama GUARANTEES another GOP tsunami in 2012!

If she keeps her job, Fancy Nancy can keep flitting about the world in military jet planes and entertaining her friends with taxpayer supplied booze.

Ultimately, it will cost her party, but is that really a problem?

"Report: Defeated Dems writng letter asking Pelosi to step down."
______________

What a lousy bunch of snake oil carpetbaggers SOBs.
The phony Dems lose and it's Pelosi's curse.

Listen, freaks passing for Dems. I got news for you.

Pelosi has been witchcrafting for a long time in Salem too. And doing her best to keep the likes of Brejnew alive. High time to burn the Dem witch! In Saélem!

The street lamppost fronting my door has been out for 3 (three days, folks!)

If she can't fix America's annoying things, like light out, in our streets, for more than 48 hours then she gotta go.

Joe The Plumber for Dem Speaker: He's ready for any stick-up or hoax, as long as Dem, or Rep, or Binsomething bounties come along.

If the letter is a fake, the truth will out soon enough. Meanwhile, reality requires Nancy Pelosi to be gone. What losing team keeps the losing coach just because they like him? The American people just repudiated the Democrats, for crying out loud. This is a democracy. You have to have a product sound enough to withstand the onslaught from the opposition, no matter how unfair, and you have to have the skills to sell it in the face of withering attack. Pelosi, Obama, and the Democrats failed on all counts.

Pelosi should be re-elected ONLY if she learns to take seriously her role as a leading spokesman for the Democratic Party, not just leader of House Democrats. Or to put it more bluntly, she is a salesman who has to fashion a sales pitch for an audience that is, at best, highly skeptical, and more likely, outright hostile. Preaching to the choir with sarcasm and one-line zingers will not suffice. Of course, you must first have a product that is sound and that people will want to buy. That product cannot be just something that wows the liberals of San Francisco.

Can Pelosi remake herself to play the necessary role? I doubt it.

Who are you, denise4925, to claim that someone lied and reported a fake letter? Where are your facts? Are you such a lame brain that you have a crystal ball? You sound just like Homer Simpson. Oops, you are a democrat. They think you are all Homer Simpsons.

I'm a concerned American, that's who I am. I have a right to my opinion and I have a right to state it. And, it's my opinion that Fox faked this letter and is lying about it being given to them by someone in the Democratic party. But, since you're probably a Fox dittohead, it wouldn't seem suspicious to you.

The facts are that Fox is the only "news" outlet to receive said letter and it's not signed by anyone. Fox is the propaganda wing of the Tea Party Republicans and will do anything to damage the Democrats. They've lied before. What would stop them now. Even if they are caught, they still won't admit that they lied. It's par for the course for the teabagging repugnant party.

Better to be Homer Simpson (a middle American) than Mr. Burns who represents the teabagging repugnants and Faux news.

"LMAO, this is just another example of how fearful the right is of Nancy."

Oh yeah, definitely. They used her in almost every ad in every competitive race this year because they are scared to death of her. God, THANK YOU for clarifying that one for me.

Seems like you still need clarification, but that's a job for God. No human being is qualified to help you at this point.

They say Sarah advocates common sense government, because she lacks intellectual capacity. Well, judging from dkgeroe, her supporters have neither.

I think the right is fearful that Pelosi will go on controlling the narrative in the house, even though she leads the minority. Boehner is a hallow man who will not be able to define a coherent agenda. I doubt he will able to weather the riffs between the Republicans in the house.

The defeated Dems need to shut up and find new jobs. Ooops! There aren't any.

Posted by: BBear1 | November 8, 2010 3:02 PM | Report abuse

One more question. To the author Matt, why are you headlining this as if it's a fact that "Defeated Dems" wrote this letter? Because Fox said so?

Posted by: denise4925 | November 8, 2010 2:16 PM | Report abuse

LMAO, this is just another example of how fearful the right is of Nancy. And, they should be. But, who would have ever thought that the Tea Party Republicans/Faux News would pen a fake letter, if there is indeed a letter at all. The only news outlet to receive the draft letter is Fox? Very curious. And, to top it off it's not signed by anyone. Why wouldn't they sign it if they are lame ducks? What are they afraid of?

The question of the day. Has Fox officially become Tokyo Rose?
