Gibbs defends Clinton amid WikiLeaks criticism

By Perry Bacon, Jr.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs strongly defended Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Wednesday amid criticism of Clinton that has followed the release by WikiLeaks of controversial diplomatic cables sent under her name.

"I think that is absurd and ridiculous," Gibbs said on ABC's "Good Morning America" of calls for Clinton to step down. "I think Secretary of State Clinton is doing a wonderful job."

Gibbs added that President Obama "appreciates greatly the work that she does."

The cables included requests from the State Department for U.S. diplomats to collect information including fingerprints, facial images and iris scans from their foreign counterparts. U.S. officials have denied the accusation they wanted diplomats "spying."

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Time this week Clinton "should resign if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations."

A clear warning that Gibbs is about to lie for Obama; He opens his mouth!

Okay, beat me senseless, I deserve it. Inexcusable typo: I meant to say, "without glaring grammatical, syntactical and/or spelling errors that would be an embarrassment to any halfway intelligent third grader?"

I'm sure there are fair-minded, principled, intelligent conservatives in this country. I've never met one or even heard of one, but hey - hope springs eternal. Meanwhile, does anybody else notice that the people who obsess over Barack Obama's middle name and birthplace and jump at any chance to advocate disempowering our admittedly imperfect present administration - does anybody else notice that those same people seem utterly incapable of writing two sentences in plain English without and/or glaring grammatical, syntactical and spelling errors that would be an embarrassment to any halfway intelligent third grader?

Coincidence? Hmmm... maybe not...

Do the opinions of Julian Assange really matter to anyone?

Hillary won't resign unless it's to mount her own 2012 campaign against BO, but I doubt she'll do that.

Assange should be prosecuted. His leaked info was obtained illegally.

What do you people really want? Is Gibbs(believe me, there have been better press secretaries)supposed to openly say that the Secretary of State is doing a lousy job? Come on folks, let's quit the politicizing every single thing our government representatives do. You might try reading history, and you would know that the State department has, and always will, have embassies that gather information about the countries that they reside in. That is the purpose of the State department. Also, at one time in history our State Department had known spies that worked both sides of the table. Why do you people all of a sudden think this is something new and horrible. I appreciate people's opinions, however, do your homework before you make comments that really have no basis for common sense.

You know gibbs,is going to agree with anybody that his mentior obama tells his boy to.Being a puppet is hard work,And fireing a clinton,Is like asking bin landen,To give his self up.You can't even run a damn inpeached clinton off,Hell he's still stealing money from us.

Good heavens do we have a bunch of people here that don't have a clue one on what a diplomat's job is. One of the most important is to keep the higherups informed on what the heck is happenin out there, one who dosn't I would consider a traitor. As I consider those that criticize Clinton and ilk. Traitors that want the US to fail for partisan reasons alone. Get a life and start thinking of the USA not your petty politics.

The case or noncase against Secretary of State Clinton is purely hypothetical. The key word is "IF." Assange is reported to have said, "Clinton 'should resign if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations.'"

"if it can be shown" . . .

Please, fellow posters, look before you leap. Be governed by your common sense rather than your partisan passions. And please be civil in expressing your views. Insult convinces no one.

The context of fingerprints and hair should be considered. How long did it take "them" to find out about the faux Taliban negotiator. Drop your hatreds, get a life and help your country.

So,why has the arrogant,incompetent,totally
clueless and ineffetive Sec of State Hillary Clinton either resigned or been fired by now? As,her effectiveness has been so badly compromised that Hillary Clinton can no longer function as Sec of State and so,furthermore when did the US State Department take over the job of the
CIA,DIA,etc here now then? It appears that
Hillary Clinton has her own personal agenda
and which may not be in our best national
interest anymore then Barack Hussein Obama's own secret personal agenda is as well. It is time for Clinton to resign or be fired as well as time Obama resign or be
Impeached over this whole FUBAR!

Furthermore,anytime we see Obama's arrogant
joke of a White House Press Secretary Baghdad Bob Gibbs out defending anyone or
anything that envolves the corrupt and total incompetent Barack Hussein Obama or
his pathetic disgusting incompetent joke of
an administration that alone should tell us
Obama is either trying to hide or cover up
something dangerously wrong. The time for
Congress to Impeach Obama is here and now.

In general I applaud Assange as a hero. However, couldn't the State Department have wanted biometric info to guard against impostors -- remember the uncanny Saddam Hussein backups?

Hillary should resign, AND RUN AGAINST NUMB NUTS IN 2012. We need a true leader, and Obama has proven to be anything but.

Clinton is the criminal here. She is instructing diplomats to illegally spy
abroad. The Washington Post is nothing but the House Organ for FedGov and it should
be treated as Pravda in the old USSR.

A Criminal from a foreign country, who is also on the run is trying to "dictate" who should be governing our country?

What next????

I see the State Dept. is inventing a whole new language:
1. "I think that is absurd and ridiculous," Gibbs said on ABC's "Good Morning America" of calls for Clinton to step down. "I think Secretary of State Clinton is doing a wonderful job."
So doing a lousy job and not having your people under control is now called "a wonderful job".
2. The cables included requests from the State Department for U.S. diplomats to collect information including fingerprints, facial images and iris scans from their foreign counterparts. U.S. officials have denied the accusation they wanted diplomats "spying."
What is collecting that kind of information called now if it isn't "spying"?
