Sheriff Dupnik: Rush Limbaugh call-out nearly crashed our system (video)

By David Nakamura

Among the breakout figures - including astronaut Mark Kelly, intern Daniel Hernandez, and Dr. Peter Rhee -- to gain national acclaim in the wake of the Tucson shooting tragedy, none has developed the controversial, love-hate appeal of Pima County Sheriff Clarence W. Dupnik.

Dupnik was cheered loudly by the crowd at the memorial service last Thursday at the University of Arizona that featured President Obama. But he has also received boos and hate mail, Dupnik acknowledged in a sit-down interview with Washington Post reporters Sari Horwitz and David Nakamura this week. He said talk show host Rush Limbaugh encouraged listeners to email the sheriff's office and "tell them what you think" and the department's computers nearly crashed after angry emails began flooding in.

Then again, he also told the Post he had received a supportive call from Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Bobby Kennedy who remains a fierce gun control advocate.

Watch and listen to what he told us:

Since the first hours of the incident, Dupnik has appeared on television far and wide, doing what law enforcement officials often try hard to avoid: injecting personal opinions and politics into a high-profile criminal case with sensitive evidence.

In a nationally televised news conference after the shooting, Dupnik said: "I'd just like to say that when you look at unbalanced people, how they are - how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths, about tearing down the government, the anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous."

As the Post's Peter Wallsten wrote last week Dupnik, 75, who has been the sheriff for three decades, is no stranger to controversy. He loudly opposed Arizona's strict new immigration laws, calling them "racist." Since the shooting, he has been critical of the political right, including Sarah Palin, for pumping up rhetoric and creating an environment that could lead unstable people to violence.

Unfortunately Barney Fife (Sheriff Dupnik) doesn’t understand what his job is. His rhetoric after the shooting was irresponsible to say the least. His comments coming from the county Sheriff could have ignited others to attempt these types of actions against innocent people. His job and responsibility at that time was to comment only on what facts that he had.

I have no problem with him expressing his opinions. It was the timing that was poorly chosen by him. I don’t agree with his opinions but he as a right to them. Now his continuing expression of opinions is getting tiring. His spouting off about politics has nothing to do with the shooting that occurred. The media is looking for anything they can make into a story at this time. Not much is going on that they want to report on. Therefore he is sought out to fill space. .

In a few weeks no one will remember Barney. Well that might not be true. With an election coming up for him he may be making his last hoo-rah. Pima County needs to be looking elsewhere for a new Sheriff. I think I see retirement in his future.

It is disturbing that the Post published this and even more disturbing the number of people who are so quick to jump on the bandwagon. The truth is, Limbaugh never did what this Sheriff claimed. The fact that he said this speaks to the mans character. The fact that so many were quick to speak on the subject without even knowing if what was stated was true is just sad. Law enforcement officers do their position a disservice when they speak untrue things with the obvious attempt to affect other peoples emotions and thought processes. Shame goes to the Sheriff for his comments and to the Post for not fact checking before publishing the article.

I totally agree with Sheriff Dupnik.

Hate Mongers like Ed Schultz, Media Matters, Mike Malloy, Keith Olbermann, Bill Press, and Chris Matthews serve only to fuel hatred in the country and so must be silenced immediately.

Rush Limbaugh is a JOKE and a RACIST. It is time for the FCC to assess a fine on him because he goes too far. Today, he made fun of our visiting president from China. No one has a right to denounce another person's culture. suppose folks marched up and down in front of Limbaugh's radio station with signs saying FAT PEOPLE SHOULD GO IN THE BACK WAY THE DOOR IS BIGGER; OR LIMBAUGH'S DRUG ADDICTION MUST REQUIRE HIM TO HAVE A DAILY DRUG TEST BEFORE HE GOES ON THE AIR. Americans cannot be behind someone like this ignorant man that has made so much money that he thinks laws and/or morals do not apply to him. I thank God that the NFL did NOT allow Limbaugh to buy into owernship.

I agree completely with the Sheriff- the atmosphere that has been created in this country, especially since 2008, is one of hatred and intolerance and overt racism. Whether Jared Loughner paid any attention or not doesn't change the fact that it exists. Other violent acts have taken place due to the atmosphere in this country. The stomping on the woman's head at the rally for Paul was a perfect example. Those men behaved as the racists did during the civil rights marches- that it was a white woman they did that too didn't matter- she was the enemy to them because she believed differently. Many of us have said the political climate must change, before this shooting happened. It is even more apparent now that the atmosphere in politics is toxic and those who use verbiage designed to elicit anger and hatred need to be called on their words. That is why Palin receives such criticism- her words are hate filled and separatist. The sheriff has been around for a very long time and has the right to express his opinion. That doesn't mean he is just an Obama supporter- don't know if he is. But he spoke for many people that first day and since, even when he is expressing his personal opinion.

Sheriff Dupnik is mistaken. Rush Limbaugh never asked his listeners to call or fax or email anyone in connection with this case. He denied it on his show today, but I know it's true because I listen to his program, and he never said it. There are other conservative bloggers/commentators who sometimes encourage people to contact their representatives about various issues. He's not one of them.

I emailed the Pima County Sheriff's Office to express my opinion that Clarence is a complete arsehole - they emailed me back and said it wasn't true, since at 75 years of age, he has a few parts missing...

This is a good demonstration of the quality of Limbaugh's listeners. They are a bunch of lemmings who will follow him anywhere and say anything he tells them to say. Most of them probably also listen to Glen Beck. Is it a coincidence that both were drunks/drugsters/failures until they got their respective talking blowhard jobs?

He said "FLAMETHROWERS!" ---- if that's not incendiary rhetoric eerily reminiscent of metaphorical "CROSSHAIRS," I don't know what is. Can't we all just refrain from using references to violence, war, or weapons in polite society? A good start would be to plead with pest control product manufacturers not to "COMBAT" roaches, run a "RAID" on ants, or to try to "OFF" mosquitos.

Was the Sheriff saying that he doesn't want the cow dung scraped off of him before he is put in the ground? Or was he referring to a caller he didn't like. Hard to follow this guy as he seems to understand very little about the real world.

In Sheriff Dupnick first statement, he was addressing the violent rhetoric that is covering both our radio and many of our TV networks.

After reading a great many of the letter/messages that have been send in respose to this article..I would agree with the Sheriff 100%.

It makes no difference if you agree with some of the radio nut cases...hate is hate, and it looks like a great number of people who defend Limbaugh and others, can not write a simple comment without lowering themselves to being part of using the "hate languge" that the Sheriff was talking about.

To those who can't write a response without using the hatefull name calling and language...you have proven that the Sheriff was/is 100% right.

I want to thank Sheriff Dupnik:

My hat is off to you Sir!

You have given me hope that others of our American Peace officers are as thoughtful, caring, and far too wise to be anything but immensely saddened by the shock jock vitriol that so many on this page are spewing. This aggressive style of rhetoric points to a crisis in our ongoing national conversation, our ability to converse. How have we allowed ourselves become so divided? Whose interests are served in trying to divide us? Certainly not the nation's. Calm down America! Take politics seriously but try to win hearts and minds with your logic and real knowledge.

You're open minded and you know Dumbnik is right? You seem to have an overly high opinion of yourself with that statement.

Why don't you read all the analysis of this schizophrenic's mind by the experts. He never listened to Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin or even Olbermann to inspire his crazed action. Political rhetoric of the kind being blamed for this act has been going on in this country since it's birth.

This fool registered democrat opened his pie hole for 2 reasons. One was to bolster the left ideologues who write for the NY Times, WaPo , MSNBC and the like in their frenzy to nail Palin , whom they consider a threat to run for the presidency, a really stupid assumption because she hasn't a snowball's chance in hell to be nominated. Rush Limbaugh, whom I haven't heard in years is nonetheless a thorn in their side. I could elaborate further on those reasons but I must get to point 2.

Point 2 is the desire for notoriety by this pipsqueak to achieve his 15 minutes of fame. After all he is 75 years old and outside his own little area his name would bring a 'who's that' response in the rest of the country, unlike Sheriff Joe who is known throughout the country and admired by a great majority of the public for his no nonsense approach.

He should have been investigating the reasons behind the crazed mind and how he prepared for the assassination attempt. All he had to do was check Giffords records and the writings of the killer to pinpoint why he went after her. Instead he seized the moment for notoriety by blaming people who had no influence over Loughner.

Yes, he is the greatest man on the planet. He is smater than God himself. ****** So you see you nut jobs-it does not have to be as overt as a written confession. His parents went and dismantled the voodoo doll and threw the chicken bones in the trash. You producers are not going to be happy until you completly wreck this country. I agree with a lot of the provisions of the Republican platform but hipocracy runs deep. What do I mean. Think about it. The republicans say they do not want illegal imigration yet most of the business owners in the republican party hire illegal imigrants and pay them dirt with no benifits. Ohhhh that was below the belt. If they were serious about stopping illegal imigration they would arrest and jail every CEO that hires illegal aliens for a minimum of one year with no good time. The second time they were caught they get 5 years with no good time. The third strike they get 20 years with no good time. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Watch how quickly illegal imigration stops..Yes a few perp walks and the other CEO's see their lying thieving commrades going to jail and walah. We do not need a 56 billion dollar fence. The solution is right here at home. Arrest the CEO's who hire them. Put them in jail. I can absolutly gurentee that illegal imigration will stop overnight. The hipocrits in the repug party would say oh, we can not arrest our CEO's we have to make campaign contributions to our brought and paid for leadership. Yes, get them all together and tell them that they are going to jail and watch how quickly they abandon the republican party.

Sorry sammsammus, there is not an iota of evidence that Mr. Loughner was influenced by Limbaugh, the tea party, or any other political figures or movements. His writings and past behavior suggest he is a schizophrenic. What political leanings he may have had, according to his rambling web postings, were, at best eclectic, ranging from Karl Marx to Adolph Hitler. The sheriff was reacting emotionally, not professionally, and while there is plenty of blame to go around in terms of political vitriol, Loughner appears not to have been influenced by any of it.

I have no problem with anyone who disagrees with me but I have no respect for anyone who lies, twists the truth for a self-serving interest and does not accept the fact that I may disagree with their pont of view. As I see it, Sheriff Dupnik at 75 is not looking for a job in politics for higher office, so he has no axe to grind. On the other hand Rush needs to keep his vitriol in high gear to keep his ratings and make his $36 Million a year. Just think about that fact alone and see who has an axe to grind in this situation and where, if anywhere, your anger should be directed. Doing something positive to help our country is where your energy should be focused not in this hateful exchange of words.

The sheriff and his staff have a job to do and Limbouguh's instructions to his minions to flood the sheriff's office with hate email
is interfering with their ability to work without unnecessary distractions. It doesn't matter what the sheriff said. Limbough is creating problems for the sheriff in a murder investigation. I wonder if Limbougugh actually supports the shooter. His actions certainly are not helpful to an investigation.

Dupnik seems a bit out of his league--a fellow too soon old, too late smart,
afflicted with Biden-like foot-in-mouth disease, sense to his utterances unable to impart.

Who when offered a forum is nonetheless willing to expound at length on matters quite beyond his ken, for the edification of none, useful only for "spin".

However, the fact that so many have taken the time in this place to comment on the utterances of such a foolish man suggests that from Dupnik's perspective things are proceeding according to plan.

Of course, in the larger scheme of things what Dupnik says and what is said about it have little significance--beyond what is suggested there by regarding the staying power of widely promulgated nonsense.

Some folks are suggesting that the sheriff should not have said anything. No, God forbid a man-a real man I might add tell the chunk of lard that his hate speech is driving a wedge in this country. rush was a slop when he was younger. He was picked on by the bullies who stole his lunch money. He was the focal point of many mean boys who like to make fun of the pimply faced slob dressing up in girls clothes. Yes, how about that. tthe defacto leader of the republican party likes wearing womens clothing and playing the woman with his man friend. That is funny. How could his legion of loosers stand to listen to a man who makes a living lying to people. God did not create all of humanity equally. Rush and his followers are clear examples of survival of the unfittest. A scaping here and there off a wall in the mens bathhouse and walla we have a man that is mistaken for something more than the marvolus idiot that he is. A house divided can not stand. Rush is driving this wedge to get ratings. He does not understand the incredible amount of damage that he is doing to his countryman. He does not care. He only cares about his ratings. Can you believe this slop makes 36,000,000 dollars a year spewing hate every single day. We like poltical discouse in the United States. It is good and it is healthy. This man does not understand that when you take it to the next level that he is now leading a cult. A crazy looney bunch of people who by all accounts are the ones who are getting worked over by his nancent friends in the Republican parth. John Boner is not better. He wants a bar put in the perch that Nancy Pelosi had. He is drunk 90% of the time. Thank God. If he were sober enough to carry on a conversation we would all be in trouble. Anyone familiar with drunks will tell you they are very emotional. He has broke down and cried three times on the house floor. We have a drunkard leading us into oblivion. The planet disintergrates around us and our so called leadership sits like mindless idiiots who never repudiate the hate speech of Rush and his fellow blathering idiots on Fox Noise. Bill Oreily did not know that the moon caused tides. That is hilarious. My God are you kidding me? The three smartest leaders of the republican party. An drunkard, an idiot and a fudge packer. You know how to pick them America. Eventually people will tire of the lies and hate and move on to somthing more contructive like rebuilding our shattered economy and trust in our elected officials. We should call them what they are-advocates for big oil and coal companies. Yes, my little minded friends why you are taking the bait from Mr. Tuty frutiy and the town drunk the big oil and coal companies are killing the planet earth. I love Rush.

But even if I didn't, I find it bizarre that a sheriff would jeopardize a case which involved the murder of a child.

Even he has said he has no facts to back up his accusations ... just his opinion.

So opinion is how we run our law enforcement. Opinions?? What happened to "just the facts"??

Sheriff Dupnik is little more than a loud-mouthed self-promoter. As sheriff, he is supposed to be gathering facts, protecting evidence, and doing all he can to assist the prosecutors. Instead, he is out spouting off his personal opinion, providing this lunatic with some semblance of an alibi. He has essentionally and purposely turned this investigation into a media circus.

Despite the fact that he is telling certain people precisely what they want to hear... and relishing the accolades and publicity in the process... this embarrassing excuse for a sheriff should be forced to resign immediately.

The Sheriff has some very extremely conservative views on immigration. And he appears to have some more liberal views on the vitriol.

Sounds like he speaks his mind and doesn't tow a party line. I respect people like that. I listen to them.

It is despicable that Rush Limbaugh created a situation that would shut down law enforcement computers. Limbaugh and his listeners should know better.

What if they succeeded and a 9-1-1 call went unanswered. That is crazy. it shows no respect.

I doubt Rush has ever had to knock on a door to tell somebody that a loved one has been murdered.

There is no question that modern technology and right-wing radio whip up animus. It is unlikely that schizophrenics are universally influenced by these stimuli to acquire guns and ammo and to seek out likely political targets. The instant case suggests that the defendant shot the politician, in part, because she didn't answer to his satisfaction his question to her during a previous encounter. Right winger celebrities have their panties in a twist over what they believe is unfair comment that connects the Safeway shootings with cheeky right-wing political advertisements that employ the death metaphor. A political defeat at the polls means a possibly temporary death of a politician's career. A schizophrenic's disordered mind may be unable to grasp the metaphorical nature of the advertising. Despite the right-wing's indignation, it remains a problem in our country to deny lethal weapons to those likely to use them unwisely.

Rush Limbaugh is nothing more than a war monger wearing slippers and a pink tootoo. He lives with his mother and I am told still takes bathes with her at his age. He forages in gabage cans so he can show young people how to be self-reliant. His "manfriend" finds him itimate and caring. But Rush got married last year....Yes he did go to an arranged wedding. He lives with his mother and his manfirend. So the defacto leader of the Republican party is a closet XXX. Yes, that is irony. The man who rallies the minds of countless morons and idiots is a proud sponser of gay day. Shush, no one is supposed to know....Except his producer. The poor excuse for a man is a worthless sack of XXXX. He stirs the proverbial XXXX pot every day to get ratings. At some point even the mindless idiots who believe is endless drivel grow tired of the constanst horangue and tune out. He too will suffer the fate of ignomous fools who crushed logic in favor of lies, inunendo and fear. He has never done one single thing to make this country strong or proud. Not one thing! He is worthless yet he makes 36 million spinning up the countless disaffected into a frenzy. For what? What could he possibly want to achieve-you idiots it is ratings. He could care less. He needs those ratings. The real news agencies would not hire the slop so he turned to hate speech and this is where we find him now. A 350 pound tub of lard. A spinless man who would never show his face in Houston, TX. We are not all crazy in Texas.

T summerinwinter - I'm amazed at how many people still think the shooting in Tucson had anything to do with politics, other than the fact that his target was a politician.

Why should you be....people still think that President Obama is a Kenyan and that Sadam Hussein caused 9/11. There's a lot of ignorance out there. Although the shooter is mentally ill there is no doubt in my mind that the crazy and over-the-top rhetoric today, especially on right-wing radio and tv is creating an atmosphere of violence, and apparently a lot of Americans feel the same way and want it to stop. How many innocent people have to die?

I also see a lot of comments that
criticize the left for speaking their mind while the right whines about 'they're trying to shut me up'. Can't have it both ways.

If you don't then you are lying to yourself and turning a blind eye.

Did anyone notice the NYT article from yestdrday that mentioned Laughner was a Bush-hater? His hatred and violence were more likely inspired by the left than the right. Will the left now take its own advice and point the finger at itself?

A public law enforcement official has no right to voice personal opinions during a critical ongoing criminal investigation. They can do so much unintended harm to the case. When opinions expressed over a single criminal case are also politically-motivated, the law enforcement official will lose the trust of a sizable portion of the people he is supposed to serve. This is a principle that applies equally to Republican or Democractic-leaning law enforcement officials.

No one knows whether the hate spewed by radicals on the right and/or the left had anything to do with this tragedy. The only thing known is that this guy appears to be unbalanced - what triggered his actions is unknown and may never be known. However, it is obvious that some TV and radio personalities make a lot of money appealing to people"s emotions (Limbaugh, Olbermann, Beck, Schultz). They spread half-truths, label people, encourage intolerance of differing views and discourage any possibility of agreement with the "other side". It is not inconceivable that the shootings were triggered by this rhetoric.

One only has to look at some of the posts for this article to see extreme intolerance. Many of them appear to be from people who are angry enough to cause concern. And it doesn't take a lot of thought to see which side expresses the most anger.

=============================================

So you agree with his opinion which shouldn't have have been expressed in the first place as a member of law enforcement where the facts were not clear.

That's the problem with the Sheriff. if he wants to shoot his mouth off with his opinions he should resign and run for office (or get his own talk show) as the liberal Democrat he is.

Clearly Dupnik should be cheered for recognizing the fundamental problems with the new AZ race-specific laws.

One thing that Dupnik's comments show is that reporters, pundits, and "the media" weren't the ones to bring up concerns about political rancor and a dangerous mood in the US. Not only did Dupnik, but so did myriad ordinary folks around the country who, through the democratization of media—such as through Palin's favored Twitter and Facebook—brought out evidence of high pitched political rhetoric and even the target map.

That the media then reported such phenomena doesn't mean it "manufactured" it or "manufactured a blood libel." As critical as I can be from time to time of the MSM, which, BTW, includes FOX, I don't see where someone on the inside connected the dots of agro political speech by Palin et al and violence and unbalanced moods in our culture.

Wanna get mad at someone, Palin? Look around at the people. A lot of people are playing ball in the new democratized media. The playing field is changing. Them's the facts.

I find it funny how the Sheriff never used any term that identified a group or a particular person in that press conference; but spoke in general terms and started with "I think".
Probably not the best politics to state his opinion in such a manor but it was a moment of weakness after a horrific mass murder in his district including the Congresswoman who he knows and the Federal Judge.

People weren't offended when the police chief in the DC Sniper shootings let his emotions get the better of him. People like him deserve some room to have a moment of weakness.

llrllr said: "The sheriff is doing a superb job of using the media to deflect attention from his failure to prevent the shootings."

So now it's the Pima County sheriff's fault (a) that we do an abysmal job in the US of educating the public about mental illness, (b) that a person whose behavior made it clear that he was in dire need of mental health care does not appear to have been receiving care, and (c) that in most states, including Arizona, being mentally ill is unlikely to restrict one's access to guns?

This story's ending becomes more obvious every day. Some will argue that the shooter and only the shooter has any blame for what happened, some will blame the sheriff, and some will blame Sarah Palin. There will be no serious consideration giving to changing our gun laws or to improving our mental health care system and within 3 months, the basic story will be repeated. Different shooter driven by a different perceived injury, different victims, same underlying causes.

I find this action typical of Limbaugh's "It's all about ME" posturing. Sheriff Dupnik had little or no choice. He could have spoken in milquetoast or like a Republican. He chose to express himself truthfully so that even the most challenged could understand his opinion. I share his opinions. Thereis another sheriff who incarcerates people in tents in a desert setting nearby. These are predominantly non white and poor. That sheriff is famous in America for his cruelty. Mr. Dupnik is truthful and pissed off.

The truth is none of us can say what influence talk show diatribes have to play in any individual incident. That said, it is hard to believe that antigovernment vitriol from either side does not have some influence. Common sense says otherwise. To deny it is just defending ones' actions.

"Imagine this scenario: the sheriff is a right-wing Republican

Let's stop right there.

In Pima County? That's beyond imagining, though well within delusion range.

The sheriff is doing a superb job of using the media to deflect attention from his failure to prevent the shootings.

Why in the world is this liberal sheriff allowed to keep his job?

Imagine this scenario: the sheriff is a right-wing Republican who immediately blames the shooting on Barack Obama and the hate-speech from the left.

Think he'd still be Sheriff?

No - he wouldn't be Sheriff.

. . . he'd probably be a GOP candidate for President.

Regardless of political bent it's a bad idea to use a national radio shot to overwhelm the phone and email resources of a local sheriff's department.

Makes it very hard for them to do their job, when email and phone communication is pretty much disabled for a cheap political stunt.

I have much respect for Sheriff Dupnik and his honest candor.
It's time we hold those accountable for their hate speech.
Any child in the US who were to post online a hit list of people they didn't like with bullseye targets over where they lived would not only be suspended from school, they could be expelled and face criminal charges.
Inciting others to violence has no place in our political discourse.

Posted by: MarilynManson | January 19, 2011 2:51 PM | Report abuse

I could do without the blame game...

How about looking at gun-laws, mental health programs, and ways that we can prevent these acts of violence, or stop the body bags?

How about making someone get a co-sign or two to buy a gun? How about keeping clips at 10 bullets? How about having a federal system that works where people can report red flag people of interest, and maybe we can stop them before they buy guns?

It wont stop all these crimes, but IT CANT HURT!!!

Dupnik was the man in charge that did not refer Loughner to mental health when his officers had many run ins with him.

But it was Sarah Palin's talk that was to blame for the tragedy even if there is no evidence that Loughner saw or listened to her.

tmonahan54 i guess he's got something in common with the darling of the right wing, the quittting whiner. She thinks she's important too, although her opinion really means something to about 14 or so people. I encourage all democrats to contact her and beg her to run for president in 2012, thus ensuring a lock on the white house for the democrats. God I hope she runs, if she has to speak off the cuff she will doom her chances in less than five minutes

The Sherriff doesn't appear smart enough to realize his rhetoric is no different than Rush....very political, antagonizing, dishonest and unnecessary.

There is no doubt a smart defense lawyer will use the Sheriff's remarks in defense of the shooter. The man should not provide his political views while in uniform. This is gross incompetence and the man should be fired.

If the atmosphere was as intense as the Sheriff states, why didn't he have his deputies at the event? More incompetence?

His view on the tax games played by both parties is dishonest. Repubs wanted tax relief for all, not a divisive view. They would have got it either in the lame duck or in the current session so the Sheriff view is dishonest and very political (again, no different than Rush).

In an earlier interview he chastised republicans for blocking "legislation in the best interests of Americans". A view that either party should "give in" to all ideas of either party is both foolish and moronic.

His views are embarrassing to everyone except the far left of the dem party and, of course, the media. This man would be better off keeping his mouth shut and I'm surprised the Judge, Mayor or prosecuting attorney hasn't given him a gag order.

To Ralphinphnx -- you may be right, 75 might be too old to be sheriff -- but let us consider removing older and more senile sheriff's first. Sheriff Joe comes to mind. I am so glad you are advocating removing him from office. Arizona needs more like you.

"injecting personal opinions and politics"? That sounds like every word ever heard on Fox "news." and the increasingly NeoCon WashPost.

When WashPost, have you ever used the words "injecting personal opinions and politics" to describe the crap coming out of the Richt wing nutjobs?

I would not be at all surprised if Dupnick got a call from the White House on the Saturday of the shooting in Tuscon requesting him to blame the "vitriol" on talk radio for this shooting. You know, the "never let a crisis go to waste" theory of politics. Being the good lib that he is, he followed orders. Now that he is in the spotlight he can't stop talking. He thinks he is an important national figure now.

To Ralphinphnx: Hey there, Ralphie! My alma mater's football mascot just happened to be a buffalo named "Ralphie". Coincidentally, he used to leave little presents on the sidelines remarkably similar in character to your post about Mr. Dupnik. Well Citizen Ralphie, if you want to spend your life being afraid of "them", be my guest. The rest of us, however, just want to get along with folks. After all, it's the Christian thing to do. Bless you!

Sheriff Dipstick personifies the entire liberal reaction to and manipulation of this incident. Without even the tiniest shred of evidence, before there were even shreds of evidence, he bombastically laid the blame at the feet of conservatives. You liberals and your lib media so wanted there to be a connection to the right, you were hoping, desperately hoping, you were--if you'll pardon the expression--praying that Sarah Palin's fingerprints would be on the gun. Keith Olbermann furrowed his brow and pursed his lips like there was no tomorrow. But there was no connection, dammit! If anything, Loughner turned out to be a George W. Bush hater who had much more in common with liberal wingnuts.

Dupnik is a disgrace to law enforcement officers world-wide, and should resign his post immediately.

For him to make opinion comments like that after the commission of such a hideous crime is dereliction of duty, and shows that he is a partisan hack instead of a law enforcement officer.

However, the facts remain that 75 year old starting to become senile total incompetent
Democrat Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik is a disgrace and embarassment to professional law enforcement all over the
USA and certainly not the hero that the liberal newsmedia, including WAPO are trying to make Dupnik appear to be,as it
remains fact that Sheriff Dupnik failed to
provide not even a single deputy sheriff for even bare bones security for Democrat
Congresswoman Giffords Public Event in Tucson as did the equally incompetent Tucson Police Department, and we all saw how
that worked out didn't we now then?

This same Pima County Sheriff Dupnik also
seems to think he can cherry pick which Arizona State Laws he can choose to enforce
or refuse to enforce, and Dupnik even told
Arizona Gov Jan Brewer that he refuses to enforce Arizona's Illegal Alien Employer
Sanctions Law and SB 1070 and Dupnik also
refuses to enforce both State & Federal Immigration Laws by refusing to arrest and
turn over to ICE illegal aliens in Pima County...So therefore Sheriff Dupnik has not only fellow Democrat Congresswoman Giffords,Judge Roll,a nine year old girl and others blood on his and his incompetent
Pima County Sheriff Department and the Tucson Police Deparment of every American
Citizen injured or killed by illegal aliens
and Mexican Drug Cartel Members all over the USA as well. Retire Dupnik or Vote
Dupnik Out Pima County Arizona and stop your embarassing the rest of all of us,Law
Abiding Citizens of Arizona & America!
