Second man cleared of involvement in Tucson shooting (Updated)

By AP/Post Editor

Updated 5:01 P.M.

Arizona authorities say a second man has been cleared of any involvement in an attempted assassination of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ogan said Sunday that the man was a cab driver who drove the gunman to the grocery store outside of which the shooting occurred.

Authorities had been seeking the man as a suspected accomplice because he was captured on security cameras near the gunman and at the scene Saturday.

The two men were seen together on the surveillance tape because Loughner had a $20 bill and wanted to get change for the $14 fare, officials said.

Ogan says the cab driver "came by, and we talked to him and we determined he was not involved."

Yes a coward is someone who kills unarmed, defenseless people in cold blood. Idiot.

Cab drivers meet Preachers, pimps and drug lords. I would have this guy not only checked out I would have his cab with a GPS tracker on it for the next year along with other recording instruments. That close to the Mexican border I would not trust a simple conversation to reach a conclusion of innocent or guilty.

In regard to the cab driver being cleared as the 2nd man; if he was cleared just from some investigators talking to him for a few minutes, I would not buy that for one second. I would tell him he is cleared but I would then run a full investigation on him all the way back to his child hood with phone checks, financial records and the whole enchilada because this is too serious for a friendly conversation investigation. This may be the reason some important information falls through the cracks.

I think it would be a fascinating study to read a comparative rhetorical analysis of the alleged shooter's ramblings AND comments posted here about this horrible crime. Afterall, 95% of what I've read are rambling rants, shared here in all sincerity as if it were credible public discourse. Embarrassing all around.

Wow, It looks like the shooter has multiple personalities and all of them have access to post on this site. Does anyone remember...PEOPLE DIED. I don't care... left or right, Teaparty, Communist, Liberal, or Republican this is not a reason to advance personal political views. Truly this is a microcosm of what is wrong with this great country. Blame and complain. We are now a country of whiners that want to pass blame for everything on the other "side". Take some personal responsibility for yourselves, we have to make the world we live in, not count on politcal parties or ideologies.

First the leftwing clowns wanted to accuse the killer of being in the tea party, but could not find evidence, so that didn't work, then the leftwing clowns wanted to blame the tea party for influencing his actions. Wow. Just like global warming is cooling the planet. Our kids are obese so let's feed them breakfast, lunch and dinner at school. Liberals are sick, sick, sick. So conservatives must measure their speech so as not to upset some poor leftist nutcase, huh? Wow.

If I call someone the N-word, it is legal, as you said. I should have the right and the expectation, from normal thinking people, that the reaction would be one that is legal. I cannot be expected to live my life for fear of offending or upsetting some nutjob. That, my friend, is not freedom. Liberals are the only ones who think they have license to freely offend with immunity. I find gay marriage AND abortion offensive, yet that never stopped a liberal. Clown. I hope I have not offended some liberal clown to the point of murder here.

Our very own president wants to "punish" his enemies. The American people.
Wants to "bring a gun to a knife fight".
And for his followers to "get in their faces".

Sarah Palin is responsible for her words, but not some leftist clowns actions because of them. Clown.
If the left is so offended by mere words, I would have to question who is the more stable person, one on the left or one on the right, no? Clown.
Communists and socialists are enemies of the American people and the US Constitution. Wake up.

It's not about limiting free speech, it's about being responsible for what you say. You can call someone the N-word; that's not against the law, is it? But you better damn well be prepared to deal with the consequences, which aren't limited to getting your face kicked in by anybody offended by the comment, black or not.

Republicans have been yelling "Fire" in the theater since Bush took office - claiming that if you're not with us, you're with the terrorists, which was at first talking about other countries but slowly turned into him and his followers vs. liberals and pretty much anybody disagreeing what what he did, wiretaps and all.

The past couple of years, however, it's been a little more violent rhetoric in the Era of Sarah, a known gun nut. Calling the left evil, saying that we're Communists, and want to take over the country, and kill everybody. You can't discount that people on the right are easily frightened by change, period, let alone change with regard to social or economic issues.

Nevermind the fact that Barack Obama became president, and the Republicans demonized him before he won the election. How? As a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer, as a celebrity, as a foreigner not born here, as a Communist, socialist, Nazi (laughable that all are somehow connected), as a Muslim, and anything else deplorable to right-wing nutcases.

And of course, they attach all kinds of things to him and the left essentially calling them evil, regardless of how moderate he's been with the watered-down BS passed (which if anybody bothered to look, included Republican ideas - the mandate that Republicans today are against was their idea in the 90s and Romney used it in MA).

They shamelessly promote hatred, then call for "2nd Amendment remedies", foment anger within this "Tea Party", just a bunch of reactionary Republicans nothing new about them, and just playing these idiots to get elected back into power - just like the talking heads use them to get rich in the media.

But, what's left is a bunch of zealots with guns who feel like the country is being taken over by some evil force, some of which call for a violent overthrow to get "our country back".

That kind of rhetoric is responsible? That is the free speech that we shouldn't have a problem with? You can't just say all this stuff is happening in a vacuum - it isn't. You don't hear those on the left talking about a violent overthrow or killing the GOP nutjobs to get our country back.

Regardless of Loughner's politics, it is the right who has promoted violent polarization from Karl Rove to Fox News on down to Sarah Palin.

But we can also blame the "lamestream" media. Can't we do any better than to hang on her every word? If she had a wound to the head instead of Gabby, they'd still talk about if she could be president - not whether she should be elected.

Shooter is now linked to "American Renaissance", a rightwing anti-immigration, anti-government white supremacist group.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0109/American-Renaissance-Was-Jared-Lee-Loughner-tied-to-anti-immigrant-group

American Renaissance's website carries what appears to be a paid tea party advertisement featuring the "Don't Tread on Me" flag that's become synonymous with many of the movement's protests.

Sarah Palin is definitely to blame. That's why she took down the map of Democratic Representatives who she was targeting for the 2010 elections, 18 out of the 20 of which were voted out, Gabby Giffords fought for her political life and had survived. Now, she's fighting for her real life because of some Teahadist.

Undoubtedly, this gun nut is a teabagger. How many of her constituents were angry about immigration and healthcare? How many of those people were Democrats or liberals? The right loves to promote violent rhetoric and subsequently wash their hands of it when something violent actually happens.

Hypocrites and liars - Republicans and their idiotic, delusional, yet gung ho enablers.

edallen, if a "figurative" call for assassination can get a left wing nutjob to murder, you should look to the weakness of the nutjob. If mere words can get a leftwing nutjob to commit acts of violence, perhaps you should focus on your leftwing nutjobs, not the people who speak.

No wonder you want to silence, debase, insult, and impugn everyone who disagrees with you. You have such weak minds, as to be so easily influenced. Weak sissies who can't handle words should be locked away anyway. You are a typical liberal - the shooter was a VICTIM of mean ol' Sarah Palin. Clown.

Dear cruiszn,

It is an actual fact, not a concocted Glenn Beck fact, that the California nutcase was an avid fan of Glenn Beck and Faux Noise, and it is an actual fact, not a concocted Faux Noise fact, that people with programs on Faux Noise repeatedly repeat statements that have long been proven false. When normal people keep making statements that they know or should know are false, normal people call these people "liars."

And I DID state explicitly:

there is no indication that this particular nutcase ever listened to Glenn Beck or paid any attention to any of the violence fomented on Faux Noise. And there is no indication that this Tucson nutcase knew that Sarah Palin's PAC called for the "figurative" assassination of his Congresswoman or that her Republican opponent hosted a live-fire shooting event.

Which is vastly less disingenuous than Senator and former Texas Supreme Court Judge John Cornyn's statement that he can understand why crowds would want to rough up judges whose decisions they disagree with.

We know that the Tucson nutcase is a nutcase and it is apparent that he liked totalitarian literature and was very very disturbed. As far as I know, that's ALL we know -- plus the fact that he got to this suburban shopping center somehow; if he drove, it does not appear (or has not been reported) that he left his vehicle in the areas; it's highly unlikely that he walked; and the police have a picture of some guy who presumably was in close proximity to the murderer at the scene whom they would like to talk with and who, for whatever reason, has not yet come forth on his own.

The fact that Hitler called his party the National Socialist Party certainly didn't make it one, any more than the fact that the North Koreans call their place the Democratic People's Republic of Korea makes it Democratic OR Republican OR Popular.)

As for the rest of your repeated screeds, the Communist Party of the U.S. has had essentially zero influence in the U.S. since the Second World War, certainly far less than has the John Birch Society, the Lyndon LaRouche people, and their successors and fellow travellers. And the positions of the Democratic Party -- and certainly its actions -- are far closer to those of the Republican Party than they are to what Socialists would want.

This is exactly the kind of hate-filled blaming speech that creates the kind of incidents that took place yesterday in Arizona. You all can sit and blame people like Sarah Palin, Keith Olblermann, Glen Beck, Ed Schultz....the list goes on and on, but the bottom line is that you all are out there acting like little boys and girls who are unable to think for yourselves, not bright enough to understand that what comes out of your television set is based on the almighty advertising dollar and that YOU, and only YOU are supporting it. You are the ones with your juvenile need to call people names, who think you've come up with something new and clever when you try to hang the label of "socialist," or "communist" on someone whose politics differ from yours. You all need to do some growing up and learn that there is a price to be paid for the ugliness you display on these internet forums. Of course you are angry, but underneath you're all scared little kiddies whose world seems to be crumbling around you and the best you can think of is to throw temper tantrums and attempt to out-insult the next guy in an attempt to show how powerful you are, and in the process you fail to do anything but display your fear and ignorance. You are not the woman lying in a hospital fighting for her life. It was not your little girl who died from a bullet wound yesterday. You are all just insignificant little people who know how to do nothing but make matters worst with the kind of screeching, blaming, name calling and insults that you have done here. Shame on you.

Looks like community agitators are starting to hit pay-dirt! Right out of a Saul Alinsky novel. Hillary and Barry's favorite reading, if I recall. What would Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn have to say about this??? Maybe Barry will ask them?

What is interesting is that at the time of his ruling in the immigration cases, the Post stressed that he was a George H.W. Bush appointee, and thus presumably a Republican. Now that he's been shot by a nutcase, he is suddenly a liberal.

After all, shooting a Republican judge wouldn't have the proper effect on newspaper pages ...

On YouTube, Mr. Loughner, now 22 years old, rages against the government and the constitution! Wow, I seem to recall the entire democrat apparatchik getting its panties in a bunch over the mere reading of the constitution just last week!

I seem to recall a certain president 0bama complaining at WBEZ in 2001 about redistributing wealth, and how the constitution ties government's hands too much! Google Mr. 0bama's hatred for the constitution. Sounds a lot like our shooter, no?

Doesn't the left also see no harm is socialism? Spreading the wealth? The economic engine for communism is socialism. Our leftist-clown shooter was a believer in communism. Conservatives are the antithesis of communists. He was a leftist nutjob, people as will be shown soon. Enjoy your leftist brethren.

CPUSA is the Communist Party USA. They SUPPORT the democrat party. The shooter was a follower of the communist doctrine. He was a leftist clown. The left always throws a fit when it doesn't get its way. It is the leftist M.O.

Hey, darlingwriter, 3rd world countries also overthrow governments by shredding their constitutions. Kinda like the current clowns in the democrat party. Your boy was also a communist loving anti-Semitic, like all the CPUSA clowns in the democratic party. Just ask Bernie Sanders, Democrat, Vermont.

Paranoid schizophrenia typically emerges in a person's early 20s.

Have the haters posting comments here been evaluated yet?

A deranged leftist who was a Goth in high school and whose favorite book was the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx.

A leftist freak in other words.

Actually he's a neo-con. A communist turned fascist. Like Limbaugh, Palin, and Bush. His handler (pictured elsewhere in this paper)is a full blown teabagger.

This is a politically motivated gang slaying inspired by the Tea Party and the likes of the disgraceful Sarah Palin and Barbara Bachman.

John Boehner has NO choice now, but to denounce the Tea Party OR resign from his House Leadership position as speaker. Otherwise he becomes squarely part of this vilent trending Republican Party advocating violence and disobedience under the ridiculous guise of religion and defending the Constitution.

One has to sharply question the motives of overthrowing a Democratically formed United States government - this is exactly what 3rd world countries in South America do. First kill off the charismatic opposition, then walk in and suspend democracy in favor of their own selfish ideology!

In no stretch of a sane imagination did our forefathers advocate guns and violence to overthrow the United States. This is NOT the religious crusades, much less the 1950's !

Awww, the other shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, 22, was part of -ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government). A Jew hating leftist clown. Hey, wasn't the Jew hating leftist darling, Helen Thomas, part of ZOG?

Yo RATZ...
The right caused these deaths??? That is an incredibly dilusional statement to make but really does bring to light a bigger issue. Why does the left have to blame anything that happens on someone or some group. Responsibilty for one's own actions are lost in the shuffle of playing the "blame game". Everything is someone else's fault.

Too Fat-Blame the fast food industry

Too Skinny-Blame the fashion industry

Lack of Work-Blame those "evil corporations" that shipped jobs overseas

Everything Else-Must be George Bush's fault

Dude-People died, that's the fact. Get off your high horse and show a little sympathy to the families...or as you most likely will. Emulate a parasite and feed off of this horrible event to further your own agenda. Typical Me, Me, Me mentality.

The shooter, first of all,was obviously sick, mentally unbalanced; normal people don't do these things.
The shooter was obsessed with Europe's politics; fascinated with Hitler, for instance -- and he clearly hated the U.S.
However, we've all witnessed very divisive politics recently; including our President, who in recent months referred to his opponents as "The Enemy".
This type of rhetoric only fuels the fire.

Channeling anger into political action is what the Tea Party does. You're part of the problem. Take it down a notch

Don't blame right wingers for the actions of a schizophrenic? Why not blame right wingers? They champion outfits like Fox News that pour fact-free poison into the eyes and ears of the mentally unstable who are FREE, under Our Constitution, to go out and buy a lethal weapon. They then seek out whomever they believe is The Enemy and shoot them. Whatever Federal Law seeks to prevent with its weak sister gun purchase rules: It Failed.

Stop exploiting this tragedy to propel your own political agenda.

The shooter is deranged, possibly afflicted with paranoid schizophrenia, a condition that often emerges in the early 20s.

There's more evidence that his views were leftist. Left, right or whatever -- he's a mental case and those casting blame at this time on ideologies and people other than the shooter, are just adding to a hate-filled environment.
