State of the Union 2011: Grousing from oil, enviro lobbyists suggests Obama found center

By Peter Wallsten

If President Obama was looking for the political (or policy) center in his State of the Union address, there was an early sign that he may have succeeded - with rumblings of dissatisfaction coming quickly Tuesday night from environmentalists and oil lobbyists alike.

On one side, oil allies were miffed that Obama called for an end to federal oil subsidies and even took a dig at the industry by noting companies are "doing just fine on their own" and waving them off as "yesterday's energy."

American Petroleum Institute President Jack Gerard, who had lobbied the White House in advance for Obama to promote the economic virtues of expanding oil drilling, said Obama missed an opportunity to highlight real job creation and economic recovery opportunities."

Environmental advocates were pleased that Obama, despite calling last week for a government-wide review of regulations, appeared to defend restrictions on greenhouse gases and other pollutants. He referred to "commonsense" restrictions that explain "why our food is safe to eat, our water is safe to drink, and our air is safe to breathe."

But those same activists were disheartened when Obama embraced nuclear energy and coal as examples of "clean energy sources."

Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters, said he and his group "object to his attempt to redefine clean energy to include nuclear and so-called 'clean coal.'"

I was imagining Cheney feeling a phantom stake where his heart should be.

More spending on "green" projects? Stop the scam now we can not afford Obama selling us out to GE any more! "What failed at Copenhagen was not just the summit. A notion of establishing the UN as a sort of world government through the use of climate politics — has also failed."
(Die Welt -German news paper -Referring to EU President Speech )
No Thanks.
Carbon racket is a tool for one worlders , that want to see planet under one rule and have latched to this carbon BS because it allows them into everything in every country, EU president even admits this .
Climate always changes get used to it, AGWscamers cannot stop any change they will just run with your money.
Since the icecaps on Mars are melting, who should we blame for it on Mars? Hint: Mars does not have SUVs..or coal power plants
AGW fraud is just that a fraud. More importantly I will not waste my money toward any effort to prevent climate change. I would use it to adapt to any change that may occur, if it occurs and when it occurs . So no money from me toward aiding and abetting carbon racketeering also known as cap n trade.
I advocate we look at RICO type laws (Anti-Organized crime) to go after the Democratic Carbon racketeers. US scientist "Hal Lewis resigned from his post at the University of California at Santa Barbara". He admitted global warming climate change was nothing but a scam in his resignation letter. "It's just another attempt of the left to grab power in any fashion that they can."It's too bad the ClimateGate emails don't show what you want them to.I can be contacted at work http://www.bestmichiganbusinesses.com and yes please keep those jokes coming in you guys have been making my day. GE building better weapons to sell to our enemies..no wonder Obama is so close to them! Obama he sure loves his war! Four more years! Come on Dems chant with me Four more years! Four more years!Of war in Afghanistan! Lets hope Cheney agrees to be on the ticket in 2012 Obama/Cheney warmongers you can believe in!

Although I am not a true fan of all the President's actions when the lobbyist get upset he must be "going in correct direction".

Our current economic climate will not permit us to ignore all sources of energy. We now give large take credits to economically unsustainable " new power sources such as fuel cells , wind and solar power" but the environmental crowd fight against nuclear and clean coal sources.

We need leadership to do what is right to grow our country and make us viable in the 21st Century not fill lobbyist clients pockets!

I think this is a final chance to se if Congress and administration can get it together for the American people.

If not our children and grand children will be living a "Third world country"!

Why would the lobbyists be upset??
All they have to do, is what they been doing:
spread the cash around & tell the "elected" career politicians how to vote.
Nothing has changed since yesterday or the day before.

Our elected representatives have made this country a Cashrarocy and took away our Democracy.

I'll believe all this bull when my next delivery of Heating Oil arrives and instead of it going up 45 cents a gal as it did last time over the previous month, falls to about $1.25 a gal altogether as it should be. I'd say that $3.20 cents a gal should be incentive enough to make Obama hand out permits to drill . He's been responsible for not having them issued ever since his grandstand play at lifting the Moratorium . How will he revive the businesses in the Gulf, and get back the rigs that have already left for Africa and Brazil .
How will he and his administration explain to the American Public why prices for cereals and beef will be going through the roof even more in the near future. As they sat on their hands , China and Japan bought up all the Corn in the USA as it sat in the Silos this year and we won't be getting it. That means food prices going up even more and since Animal Feed is mainly made up of Corn, beef and chicken prices will rise as well. And we'll still be committed to making Gore and his pals even richer since Ethanol is made mainly from Corn . Then as we kill small businesses with a Carbon Tax, we can find out that Ethanol puts up more harmful bi-products into the atmosphere than Gas does . And watch as China who is erecting about one Electric Generating Station a month laughs as they will all be burning coal to produce the energy . They will put more Carbon into the Atmosphere in one Month, than we will in a decade . And tell us where all the money will come from to send all the Illegals kids to college as Reid promised and watch as our own kids can't go . Then as more and more pour over the border, tell us it's not to garner the Hispanic vote as Obama and crew push for Amnesty and cry once more that they can't do anything about the 11 Million Illegals here already. No sense speaking of Obamacare. How many people usually pay for something now, and not get the use of it until 2014 as is the plan for Obama's Socialized Medicine . I hope you love his Legacy, because that's the only reason he wasted that year and Millions to get insurance for 30 million and ruin insurance for the 270 Million Americans who are left. Yessir, what we need is more talk . Some wonder why the " Founding Fathers " didn't make a provision for the SOTU ? Because the Founding Fathers were Doers and not Talkers . Otherwise we'd still be bowing to a King and a Queen .

In other news, the pigs lobby was disappointed that President Obama didn't offer free air miles for pigs to fly wherever and whenever they wanted.
