'Together We Thrive' schedule

By Emi Kolawole

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will be in Tucson Wednesday to attend the "Together We Thrive: Tucson and America" event at the McKale Memorial Center on the University of Arizona campus. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. MST (8 p.m. EST) with doors opening at 4 p.m. MST (6 p.m. EST).

According to a university news release, organizers are expecting thousands of people to attend. If the 14,000-seat arena reaches capacity, overflow seating will be available at the university's football stadium. Video of the memorial will be shown on the scoreboard's big screen.

"Every person has their own individual concerns and is grieving in their own way, but we're all coming together and joining in unity," said Associated Students of the University of Arizona President Emily Fritze, a senior majoring in political science. "And this is the physical representation of that."

Of Obama's visit, Fritze said: "This is an opportunity for us, borne from very, very unfortunate circumstances. Students are excited and comforted to have the president come and deliver a message to the campus community," she said.

We will be covering the speech as it happens, but the university has released a preliminary schedule for the event:

Opening music
A Native American blessing
Welcome by University of Arizona President Robert N. Shelton
The playing of the National Anthem
Remarks by President Shelton
Remarks by a University of Arizona Student
Remarks by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R)
Remarks by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano
Remarks by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder
Remarks by President Obama
Moment of silence

The event is scheduled to last one hour. In the meantime, we've been keeping track of your guidance on what you think the president should say.

I would like to know if the preliminary schedule printed in the article was EXACTLY what was handed out to the attendees of the memorial, with Gov. Jan Brewer being THE ONLY speaker identified by party affiliation. If it is, then we all know what (Or should I say Who) this was REALLY about.

Wow! What a nice pep-rally kickoff for Obama's 2012 campaign--complete with T-Shirts and whoops and hollers from the usual, brain-washed, Obama supporting youths who don't know any better serving as a backdrop. How interesting it is that our propaganda-based President always complains about people attacking his children and "dragging them into" the political debate, yet he uses college kids and young people, including his own daughters, to further his agenda all the time. (Remember the little trip down to Florida to swim and promote tourism in the wake of last year's oil spill? Why didn't he take his little 10 minute photo-op dip alone? Instead, he jumps in the water with his offspring!)...
And the setting for this pep rally?
Why a College, of course! What better place to accomodate the crowds?--Full of young people who get to "see the prez", and take home a really neat T-Shirt emblazoned with the latest, greatest Hitler-Youth-type brand name that David Plouffe can come up with: "Together We Thrive". Also, I just love the way that that same slogan is now being plastered all over the U of A 's campus in preparation for their upcoming "back to school" week: Reports are indicating that it's campuses bulletin and billboards, its information signs, its T-Shirt wearing students are all clad in the same neat slogan! Indoctrination of our young people? You be the judge, America...As for me, the random act of a deranged kook scares me a lot less than the ammunition being employed in promoting the agenda of the ballot-box rejected left-wing and their frightening, dictatorial "President"--if that's what you can still call him. This President has done NOTHING to unite our people, preserve or protect our Constitution, preserve and repair the soundness of capitalism and/or the very fabric of our economy...He has done NOTHING to protect & secure our borders...He HAS, in fact, done EVERYTHING to tear down the fabric of our country, to ram his radical agenda down the throats of what is a "healthy" and growing opposition to his "reforms", and this latest pep rally was no exception...Any true follower of what the founding fathers lived by knows what is going on here--despite the fact that the media does not want to report it...
The only ray of hope for the country in this latest, shameless act of Obama self-promotion is that the young collegiates that they feel so desperately love them will do the same thing on election day in 2012 that they did with their really neat T-Shirts last night: They will take their new apparel back to their dorm rooms, call up some friends and have a beer...There's far too many fun and important other things to do while at school which take precedence over standing in line in the rain while waiting to vote. I'll be more than happy to pick up the vacuumed slack with my ballot once again in two years...Provided elections themselves are not outlawed as "divisive exercises" by the present regime by then...

swatkins:
Tea party members or Republicans have not made any effort to resolve the problem?
Really!! Give me one reason why THEY should be resolving a problem. What problem? Do you mean the assinine, ridiculous, slimy statements the left has made? If so, and you should make clear what you are talking about, why should they be doing anything? The left is the cheap shot guilty entity here. And there should not be need to defend Sarah Palin. The statements about her should never have been made. No one is responsible for the insanity of one person who chose to kill people randomly and in cold blood.
If you think it makes sense to blame anyone but him than you aren't much more stable than he was.

Hholy cr@p! Obama has branded the memorial. They're handing out commemorative "together we thrive" blue tshirts to attendees.

Can he sink any lower?

Interesting, isn't it, that the only one who has a party affiliation listed is the Republican?

Pretty clearly demonstrates that this is just a political event trying to puch the liberal agenda, rather than a memorial event.

WaPo please stop asking what Pres. Obama or anyone should say. I think it's an inane question.

I see some people still have to express their dislike for others.

I notice Eric the red Holder our far leftist AG will address the gathering. This divisive, racist boob,is useless and clueless. Leave him in DC.

Not one single tea party or repubican leader has made any effort to resolve the problem. Not one. All they are doing is defending Sarah Palin. At every turn, they just deflect criticism, and blame the "left". Lovely bunch of creatures they are.
