The State of the Union is ________. Tell us in one word (#mysotu)

By Amanda Zamora

Every year, the president of the United States offers a progress report on the state of the nation as required by the Constitution, to "recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."

Whether times have been trying or prosperous, recent presidents have managed for the most part to find the state of the union to be good, strong and sound.

There have been more gloomy assessments, to be sure. Gerald Ford, making his first State of the Union address after Richard Nixon's resignation, took a notable negative stance:

But for the most part, the annual State of the Union address serves as a national pep talk, an opportunity to focus on the positive.

"Despite our hardships, our union is strong," Obama reported last year, as the nation continued to struggle with foreclosures, unemployment and differences over health-care reform.

YOUR TAKE: How would you sum up the State of the Union?

As we prepare to see what Obama has to say during his second State of the Union address, we wonder how YOU would complete that sentence: Our state of the union is _________. Tweet us with #mysotu and we'll gather your responses here.

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSES:

Optimistic! RT @washingtonpost: The State of the Union is __? Tell us in one word, include #mysotu http://wapo.st/efJk9U #SOTUless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

The State of the Union is heartening... no matter who is president. @washingtonpost #mysotuless than a minute ago via Twitter for Mac

More spending on "green" projects? Stop the scam now we can not afford Obama selling us out to GE any more! "What failed at Copenhagen was not just the summit. A notion of establishing the UN as a sort of world government through the use of climate politics — has also failed."
(Die Welt -German news paper -Referring to EU President Speech )
No Thanks.
Carbon racket is a tool for one worlders , that want to see planet under one rule and have latched to this carbon BS because it allows them into everything in every country, EU president even admits this .
Climate always changes get used to it, AGWscamers cannot stop any change they will just run with your money.
Since the icecaps on Mars are melting, who should we blame for it on Mars? Hint: Mars does not have SUVs..or coal power plants
AGW fraud is just that a fraud. More importantly I will not waste my money toward any effort to prevent climate change. I would use it to adapt to any change that may occur, if it occurs and when it occurs . So no money from me toward aiding and abetting carbon racketeering also known as cap n trade.
I advocate we look at RICO type laws (Anti-Organized crime) to go after the Democratic Carbon racketeers. US scientist "Hal Lewis resigned from his post at the University of California at Santa Barbara". He admitted global warming climate change was nothing but a scam in his resignation letter. "It's just another attempt of the left to grab power in any fashion that they can."It's too bad the ClimateGate emails don't show what you want them to.I can be contacted at work http://www.bestmichiganbusinesses.com and yes please keep those jokes coming in you guys have been making my day. GE building better weapons to sell to our enemies..no wonder Obama is so close to them! Obama he sure loves his war! Four more years! Come on Dems chant with me Four more years! Four more years!Of war in Afghanistan! Lets hope Cheney agrees to be on the ticket in 2012 Obama/Cheney warmongers you can believe in!

The post-partisan era began tonight. Blame-the-other-guy got no support except in Michelle Bachmann's Tea Party response, which pointed to Obama's increased deficits and totally ignored the economic cycle. No one in the House chamber seemed to miss party contention; how can any American yearn for it?

We shall, of course, have another election in 2012. Folks will, of course, talk trash in order to be noticed. The question is, who will care about them? Health care will be even more miserable: the darkness before the dawn, the misery of late pregnancy before the new system is born. But aborting the changes so late will be nuts. Prosperity will be back, maybe not for all, and those still left out will be fighting mad. But this election promises to be the fringes against the center, not the big-government vs. little-government fight we have just witnessed.

The #SOTU is divided because of the hard-line, unyielding tactics of the GOP to help the rich and make the poor suffer. They say government spends too much money, yet we just paid for the House to spend days repealing #hcr. Few of the GOP are willing to give up their health care plans, big salaries or huge pensions; yet, they expect those who are living on less than $20k a year to buy health insurance at $800 a month, to feed a family of four on a measley salary. Everyone needs to pay into Social Security, but only those who have incomes under $100k per year should be allowed to draw SS. GOP is all about GOP and no one else allowed.

Another staging of theatrical production with Obama script writers providing BUZZ WORDS; JOBS will be those UNION ("infrastructue?," haven't they been doing that since 2009?; there will not be CUTBACKS in FEDERAL UNION SECURED EMPLOYEES who VOTE and WHOSE PAYROLLS deliver THE UNION DUES billed to TAXPAYERS to fund POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS and offset additionally against SOCIAL PROGRAMS and NOW ENTITLEMENTS for those that PAID INTO THEM; especially the BLOOD, LIMBS AND LIVES OF THE ARMED FORCES?

Both Obama and Biden would promote concern for Military Families with exclusion of those surivors and retirees now two years without COLA'S, as well as Social Security recipients, while minimally qualified FEDERAL EMPLOYEES have been NURTURED by both parties, and the Secretary of Defense is inept beyond explanation.

Not one MEDIA OUTLET has brought out the 3.8% Health Care Tax effective in 2013 (Obama to be re-elected in 2012?) on sale of real property (when seniors "downsize," $3,800/$100,000) as well as ON "unearned income." This has not surfaced in print nor on CNN, CBS, nor NBC?

Isn't it lovely? Valerie Jarret, the Obama spokeswoman, was all her smug and arrogant self on CBS this a.m., as usual without a CLUE!; having previously published on the WP page her pride in how many Black American women were imnported by Obama and not to overlook the GLBT crowd purposefully recruited to the federal government (payrolls), and we are supposed to "suck up" the "pain" projected for "everybody?," and "everywhere," and those among the long suffering "unemployed" at well over 10%?

Is SPEAKER BOEHNER bringing boxes of tissues with him? He hasn't "hit" on FEDERAL EMPLOYEES; instead of drastic cutbacks nationally for the most vulnerable amongst us? The BIBLE does make mention of this "charity;" does the GOP leadership not "worship?" The Democratic leadership worships UNIONS.

Our political dialogue is disjointed and fragmented while frustration dominates in our "body politic" absent rational and intelligent leadership. Thanks to a totally irresponsible "media."

"Hope" for "change?" In our lifetimes?

we know china and india watch out for their own interests...
and they do it well...
we don't and that's why we will suffer...

Who knows what 'our' state of the Union is? What single person can answer for the whole of the nation? Probably would take a president to do that properly.

But I do know the status of the State of the Union Address.

The State of the Union message is a "Googol," in my interests. Numbers one to ten, being good to bad, in progressive order.
I'm going to find an Animal Show to watch. I'll critique the highlights, on Fox News, sometime, following.
