Palin event canceled due to 'an onslaught of personal attacks'

By Emi Kolawole

Former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was scheduled to speak at an event for a Colorado nonprofit group May 2, but the event was canceled the day after it was announced due to "an onslaught of personal attacks" against Palin.

Palin was to speak at the Patriots & Warriors Gala at the Infinity Park Event Center in Glendale, Colo., which was billed as an awards banquet and fundraiser for military families in need and for a grief camp for children who had lost loved ones in combat.

But the event, sponsored by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation, was canceled Saturday, a day after it had been announced to the media. A press release posted on the sponsoring organization's Facebook page reads, "Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns."

The press release goes on to say that no direct threats were made against Palin, nor were any made against members of the organization's staff, but in light of the shooting rampage in Arizona last month, the negative rhetoric "raises concern for her safety and the safety of others despite the call for civility in America."

"The organization deeply respects Sarah Palin," reads the release, "and appreciates her willingness to come and honor our military. The organization plans to host the event at some point in the future, featuring another speaker."

The cancellation of the speaking engagement frees Palin to attend the NBC/Politico Republican presidential primary debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in California, also scheduled for May 2. But none of the potential 2012 Republican candidates have said they will attend.

Did she seriously imagine she'd receive LESS negative press if she were VP or President than she got as a candidate? If she can't handle criticism as governor, or as whatever ex-governor tea-party-icon she is now, how the heck did she expect to handle it in the White House?

Show us the "personal attacks on Palin". Well, one need look no further than right here. Worst still they are not even intelligent phrased personal attacks and therefore are particularly ironic given the nature of the insults.

As to legitimate question: Show us the personal attacks on Palin. One need look no further than right here in these comments. In fairness though some of them are really pathetic with people that say, or imply, the supposed ignorance of Palin. Well you do not need to read many of them to question: Just how intelligent are the critics? Most of them appear to be incapable of carrying on a reasoned discussion. It has been said that ignorant people resort to insults as a substitue for actual thought. Creative insults can be fun to read, but these are not.

If any organizations hires palin as a speaker, they should emphasize that she is not "Gov. Palin" since she was unable to finish her elected term of office. I don't know what you call such a person since we have no history of such a happening. Quitter would be appropriate I think. Also, I have heard some of her speeches and find them confusing and repetitive with little content or facts, mostly opinion and exageration. Useless!

Why waste your money or time.

Sarah,Sarah,Sarah.I for one will miss your speech. Your way with words always gives me the "chills".The way you form a sentence to make your thoughts/opinions resonate are truly unique.Your understanding of the feelings of "real Americans"has made many stop in their tracks. Perhaps in the future this foundation, you so graciously were going to attend, will have the foresight to have your fees' in place before wasting your very valuable time. At least they got a little publicity and even managed to get you some sympathy from your many, many supporters. Sarah the office of President of the "real" U.S.of A. awaits your candidacy. I know you will probably not throw "your hat in the ring" as the job does not pay as well as what you are now doing and your chances of success are slim to none. But, knowing that you are not a quitter, please consider giving it a "shot" In the mean time keep up your engagements at all these various patriotic venues. Quite a few of them do have the funds to cover the expenses. But before you commit be sure they do, or not, this last one kind of a "winner"

Just like any other "Entertainment" appearance, they probably didn't sell enough advance tickets to pay Palin's fee.It happens to concerts every day. You didn't really think she was showing up for free didja?

They weren't selling tickets so the next best thing was to turn it into a "feel sorry for sara" moment. Don't you think that Obama faces the same thing and worse everytime he speaks in public? Palin couldn't handle the pressure. Besides, PEOPLE DON"T LIKE HER. She will never be elected president. Give it up.

The real reason it was canceled is slow ticket sales. From the Denver Post:

"Tax records show the organization has had meager support over the years — raising only $1,000 in 2008 and reporting total assets of $2,204 in 2009.

Moreover, the organization originally announced the Palin appearance on its Facebook page on Jan. 10 and began selling $185-per-person tickets Jan. 16.

On Jan. 30 the group offered $15 discounts, and on Wednesday it slashed ticket prices in half before announcing the gala to the news media on Friday."

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_17304920

Blaming personal attacks against Palin was just a way for Palin and this group to save face.

Based on their tax records, they don't seem like much of foundation. Maybe they should become a money launderer for Beck's next rally.

The liberals are desperately trying to shut Palin up by veiled threats, negativism, and accusations. They speak of civility and good will, but they are filled with hate, rage, and malice, particularly directed towards Palin. She has the right to speak wherever she chooses and I hope the people in Denver will re-consider her appearance at their event.

Posted by: Tommypie | February 7, 2011 1:18 PM | Report abuse

This is a ploy to gain sympathy. She's like "Me, me, it's all about ME!"

People said mean things about her - the press release says there were no direct threats.

Liberals certainly don't want anything bad to happen to Palin because then she would play the martyr - she's already good at playing the victim.

Posted by: FauxReal | February 7, 2011 12:58 PM | Report abuse

The event was planned before the liberals and media launched a blood libel against the Palins by misreporting the Tuscon shooting.
After the blood libels and smears against the Palins and the conservative movement, the American public decided to boycott the US military. This show that the American liberals and media has successfully turned the American public against the US military.

But splooge, the liberals were never going to attend the event in the first place. The only ones boycotting Sister Sara are arch conservatives like you. Why did you abandon Sara splooge, why? You know she needed the money. Didn’t you want to hear her meaningless drivel one more time. Why Splooge why???

This really strains credibility. The press release provided no specifics whatsoever about the supposed "negative attacks", it's just a way for the Palin people to do another of their hit and run insult volleys (Sarah hits, then runs before anyone can hit back) but this time it's 100% about freeing up her time for that debate. At least with Palin you get transparency in government, she's transparently full of it on this one. More to follow, I'm sure.

"Why does the press continue to legitimize her by coverage"

There is to be a conspiracy with media reporting all of Sarah's actions, as they give her more rope and watch her self-destruct. The country is playing Sarah like a violin and she's responding as planned.

For the nimrods that are still hung up on blaming Sarah for Tucson - that's old news and no one's blaming her anymore.

Will have to read more on this, but why is Palin charging so much to "help" a non-profit group? Seems like she's using an excuse to help herself first, and whatever may be left over, helps others. This story sounds like another typical cancellation with whatever she can come up with for an excuse - poor pitiful Sarah is trying to make herself a victim again - this time by hyping negative comments into "scared for her sorry life" threats. Get a spine Sarah. She's going down in flames - she seems VERY close to an emotional meltdown.

The Paris Hilton of Politics. The rightwing media has pumped Sarah 24/7 for two years now and the American people have said, ENOUGH!. Self-proclaimed "real Americans" and "true patriots" are delusional.

Sarah's own motivations are clear. Patent the name, (if she can figure out where to sign the documents, DUH!) and continue to pander to the 20% of Americans, the extreme right-wing Christianists who are as incoherent as she is.

Palin had behaved extremely unreasonably in her last appearance by behaving like she was the Queen of England. This may have provoked the cancellation along with her large fee and concern about selling enough tickets to pay her. While she has base of fans who have drunk the koolade many are taking a second look at her and not liking what they see.

skponggol...

your posts are only your personal opinions...they are clearly not based on factual information or events

Your attacks and statements are completely out of the world of reality and history.

From the statements of the group that invited Palin, the former half term Gov. of Alaska..the first Gov in the history of the country to leave office early for reasons of either poor health or crimminal actions...it is VERY clear that they could not raise the EXTREMELY LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY that she demands to make a personal appearence.

In other words the public would not pay the high price for the tickets...and when the price was lowered...they still would not pay to see her.

Palin is a business woman..her new found job is to make her living by getting people to PAY TO COME AND HEAR HER READ A SPEACH SOME ONE ELSE WORTE...she does not work for free...she charges very large amounts of money..how else do you think she became a mulit millionair over night??

This is not the only place in the country where she can not draw a large crowd...this is happening in other communities in the country..several of her events have been cancelled because the sponsers could not raise the large amount money she demands.

The reality is that the main stream public does not want to pay the very high prices that are need to pay her bill.

Your comments on liberals and Bin Laden..are not only factually wrong they are totally nuts.

If you actually believe the stuff you are writing you need a lot of help..by the way do you even know that the Neo Con Repub President and his top staff that were in office on Sept 11, 2001 were briefed on Jan 25, 2001 that Ben Laden was planning an attack on the USA?

What did they do about that? NOTHING..ZIP..NOT ONE GD THING ..except discussed it briefly seven (7) months later in mid August while Bush 41 was on one of his frequent vacations at the "ranch"..but they did nothing else about it...

The reality is that both the Conserative Repub President, Vice President and their top staff were all informed well in advance and in detail about Ben Laden's plans to attack the USA and THEY DID NOT DO ONE THING TO STOP IT!!!.

Read the 911 report and you might learn a great deal more than you think you know.

It appears that no matter what or if Sarah says anything or not, there are those that are so rude to comment on the negative. Personally, I like to determine for myself rather than to be persuaded by Comedy Central theatrics. To start with,Sarah is not Tina Fey. If,that is "IF" you would or could be honest,a totally different assumption about her would prevail. I don't expect to change the media's attitude, but I got to believe honesty has some value. At least for me. I like her. I think she is smart, beautiful, pleasant, and above all is, true to her convictions. To say things in a political correct atmosphere takes guts that very few pastors have. I'm proud of her and wish more people were like her. I could go on but I know most people do not want to hear "good"things about her.

Have you ever heard anyone say specifically "I am right" or "I am left?" This is media shorthand only, but it helps make a "good story."

Palin is neither left or right. She is a misplaced person - more to be pitied than to be given any media attention. Unfortunately, she has become a caricature of a political pundit. Her comments are more appropriately suited to the comic section of the newpaper or other media.

Are we flying plans laden with incendiary materials into state tax offices??? Do ur political events feature us sporting assault weapons slung over our shoulder's??? Do we spit on the elected representatives f the opposition??? Do we incite mobs from the balconies of congress???

You righties are doing righties have always traditionally done- tell the big lie, again and again. You know like Germany accused Poland of aggression, so they could justify conquering them with a brutal uprovoked invasion, r like the last GOP administration accused Iraq of intending to use weapons f mass destruction so we could go in and blow the living heck out of 'em.

Winchester Barbie and her white trash supporters don't have the brains to understand the irony of this whole joke, but it is very rich. Nobody wants to pay to see Dumbette do her wink wink nod nod anymore so the event is canceled, as much because of the enormous fee she demands as anything else, and the rednecks blame the left. If you people had any brains you would realize what losers you are.

Posted by: ElectricBill | February 7, 2011 8:34 AM | Report abuse

Someone has their information wrong- that the event was canceled a day after it was announced. The tickets were not selling at the announced ticket price so they offered tickets at a $15.00 off rate. When they still weren't selling, they offered them for half price. When they wouldn't sell at half the cost, they had no choice but to cancel the event. Palin charges $100,000.00 plus expenses to appear. When you count the other costs associated with putting on any kind of event, they had no chance of making enough money to pay expenses let alone to make any money for the supposed charity.

For those of you accusing "the left" of "blood libel", you are fools to believe that. The facts are that Palin did damage to herself for coming out with that "poor me" video after all those people were killed and wounded in Arizona. That was a time to support the victims and not for Palin to play the victim card again. She can blame herself. She is the one that thought she needed to put her face out there at such a time in such a manner. She's a tool.

After the blood libels and smears against the Palins and the conservative movement, the American public decided to boycott the US military. This show that the American liberals and media has successfully turned the American public against the US military.

"I agree. Our buddies in the American liberals and media is helping us to defeat the US military infidels just as they helped the Vietcongs and Khmer Rouges in the 1970s. God is watching the American liberals and journolists....and they will each be well-rewarded with 100 virgins when they come to the Paradise....ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.."

- Osama Bin Laden, singing and dancing as he prepared his military victory parade to be held 6 months later in Kabul.

People ought to check things out before the write blog entries. Or comments. A check of the SKP Foundation's Facebook page shows that:

The Gala was originally announced on November 29.

The announcement that the Divine Sarah would be the headliner was made on January 10.

Tickets were first offered for sale on January 16th at $185 per head.

The tickets were discounted $15 on January 31.

The tickets were offered for half-price on February 2.

The foundation finally got around to announcing the Gala on February 4.

They canceled the Gala on February 6th.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

What??!!!

Republicans/conservatives/right wing/tea party/Obama haters have spent the last two years disrespecting our President and his wife. They have called President every name in the book, a constant barrage of nastiness and negativity and now they have the nerve to complain and whine when the same type of comments are directed at Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin has done her share of disrespecting the President, his wife and the American people. She has been extremely divisive, abrasive, mean spirited and hateful herself but heaven forbid someone says something mean about her. If you people don't like the rhetoric then stop it. As long as you people claim your right to insult and disrespect our President, his wife, his supporters and everyone else that doesn't fit in your agenda, then us Liberals will reserve our right to do the same.

Here's your answer right here:

"The cancellation of the speaking engagement frees Palin to attend the NBC/Politico Republican presidential primary debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in California, also scheduled for May 2."

The event planners even said no one received threats. If she is quitting because people called her names, that right there shows she has no place in government. She quits when she is not fawned over.

Unfortunately, this is what Sarah's vitriole has come to. She is also in my opinion, an opportunist. Being governor of Alaska wasn't good enough for her to finish out her first term any more than this event was. In today's headlines, it was reported that she was grilling the President regarding his stance on Egypt. At this point, Sarah, who by the way is too thin skinned to permit herself to be grilled by anyone about anything, would grill the President about an Oscar Meyer Wiener if it got her media coverage. You're becoming more irrelevant by the day, Sarah. Go back to your family and clean it up. Seems they've become more a mess in your absence.

I guess Palin decided to ignore her own advice of "Don't retreat, Reload!"

This was obviously cancelled because they could not sell enough tickets. So an excuse that would also add to Plain's "all about me" martyr complex needed to be made.

Try as I might I cannot find in any of Sarah Palin's speeches or writing anything that could possibly be defined as "hate". That is unless you regard the expression of conservative views as 'hate'.

Slandering opponents as 'haters' is generic Leftist boilerplate. Other common pejoratives are 'racist,' 'bigot,' and 'X-phobe,' where X = homo, Islamo, xeno, etc. The vocabulary of Leftist personal vituperation and character assassination is only too familiar. Those who disagree with so-called progressives are predictably denounced as stupid, ignorant, hypocritical, dishonest, greedy, gullible, uneducated, idiotic, backward, dangerous and insane. The Friends of Humanity have little patience with those who oppose their politics. They seldom suffer fools gladly.

The fundamental fallacy of Leftism and progressivism is a fantastic dogmatism that causes zealots to think that they know everything and that they are always right. Their malicious intolerance arises from their conviction that there can be no rational or moral grounds for anyone to disagree with them. Such people do indeed tend to experience the expression of conservative views as unwarranted and intolerable hate speech. They see themselves as tolerant and broad-minded to a fault - but since it is impossible for them to conceive of any valid grounds for someone to disagree with them about politics, they are obliged to interpret disagreement as mere provocation driven by sinister and unwholesome motives. They are convinced that there is something WRONG with people who do not agree with them.

Attacks here upon Sarah Palin are repellent and indicative of the morality and standards of those making them. Many have a snide and catty quality commonly associated with homosexuality. All are uncivil, unpleasant, and unproductive. If one wishes to discover the locus of hate in contemporary politics he need not look further than the Friends of Mankind and the Apostles of Benevolence and Lovers of Justice, the so-called progressives who hate everything and everyone that is not themselves. Their incredible grandiosity with its claim to special gnosis and omniscience heats them to a perpetual boil of self-righteous indignation that the world is not the way they want it to be. This is the infallible signature of the immature mind. It is no coincidence that the loudest and angriest complaints against the world usually come from those who have not lived in it very long.

From the Denver Post:

Tax records show the Pacheco Foundation has had meager support over the years — raising only $1,000 in 2008 and reporting total assets of $2,204 in 2009.

Moreover, the organization originally announced the Palin appearance on its Facebook page on Jan. 10 and began selling $185-per-person tickets Jan. 16. On Jan. 30 the group offered $15 discounts, and on Wednesday it slashed ticket prices in half before announcing the gala to the news media on Friday.

The next day, the group announced the cancellation, citing ‘safety concerns’ and said it hopes to host the event at some time in the future but with a different speaker.

Anyone who cannot see that this group is lying about 'safety concerns' is absolutely delusional.

The press release associated with this article is highly contradictory.

First, it states, "Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns."

The it states, "The press release goes on to say that no direct threats were made against Palin".

Either, Palin was threatened or she wasn't.

If anything, this so-called press release is no press release at all. It's an excuse to cover for Palin.

The event got cancelled one day after it was announced on Facebook? Probably because Palin wanted more than this group could pay her. The purpose of a 'fundraiser' is for the income to be far greater than the expenses, and that the proceeds from such event be used to carry out the mission of the group, not for the group to pay all of the events proceeds to the headline 'speaker'.
Sounds like a group of people had a bunch of grandiose plans that having Sarah Palin 'speak' at their event would bring them major$$$$, then the reality of the events expenses (Sarah's excessive diva demands and other unearned 'fees') spoiled their grandiose plans, so they had to find some lame excuse to use for cancelling the event.

Sarah Palin talks, but she's got no experience to back up what she's blabbering about. She talks about 'fixing' this or 'fixing' that, but she hasn't done any of the work she says needs to be done.
She expects to get paid to 'talk' about what needs to be done, not to actually 'do' what needs to be done.

Liberals are out in full force with their hate speech. It is clear liberals do not like independent women who make it own their own. Amazing liberals condemn hate speech and then engage in the very thing they say they condem. The comments are full of sexist statement about women from liberals and their are comfortable saying these things. Typical liberals, full of hate, do as I say not as I do. I guess they are from the 57th or 58th states Pres. Obama talked about. PS Where are the war protesters, oh that's right, liberals love war now. Liberals hate Sarah Palin because is earned her own career and didn't rely on a sexually harrassing, perjurer, disbarred husband.

Well, considering her present desire to 'trademark' herself for increased riches, she is probably holding out for more money. I would not at all be surprised if SP was the one behind the so-called 'attacks' as a way to increase her fees and the alleged hype over 'getting' to hear her "speech".

***Or could the 'attacks' be the people voicing their opinions that they are finally getting tired of Sarah Palin, and just want her to shut up and go away?
--------------------

"The organization deeply respects Sarah Palin," reads the release"
****You 'respect' her? Respect her for what? Ignoring her family so much that she didn't even know her oldest daughter was sexually active? Respect her for teaching her daughter to expect to be pampered and highly-paid while calling her son 'a mistake'? Respect her for pretending that she knows more than she really does, that the world cannot survive without her unsolicited opinions? Respect her for calling herself an 'American', while she insults the current American President?

Lastly, stop calling Sarah Palin "Governor" she quit that job more than a year ago, because she didn't want the title anymore.

Hey,hey, listen. I know what she can do.

How about if she and Michele Bachmann plan a mud wrestling event. They can have it at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in Assembly Room where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were drafted and signed.

Men attendees will be required to wear tricorn hats and women, draw-string aprons and country bonnets.(since many of these items are imported from China caution must be exercised that no labels show) Flintlock muskets and and pistols optional.

Price of admission could be set at 100 teabags for adult males, 75 for adult women and 50 for children under 17 years of age. (the patriotic aspect of using tea for admission is problematic since all tea production in the world is foreign with at least 35% coming from communist countries: attendees will be encouraged to remove any labels or references to communist sources printed on the bags before using them as cost of admission)

At the end of this momentous event, Palin and Bachmann can announce they plan, the following weekend, to travel to Boston with the teabags where, disguised as Native Americans, they will dump them in Boston Harbor. (the disguises being a reenactment of the original Tea Party patriots' desire to not have the British know who was carrying out the act of treason and if it resulted in a few Native Americans being wrongly accused it would be the price of freedom they would have to pay)

Both events could be covered exclusively, with Blackwater (now Xe Services LLC) mercenaries providing security, by Fox News with whom Palin and Bachmann will have negotiated a Fair & Balanced contract.

Palin didn't cancel this event, the event planners canceled the event.

It says it rights here:
But the event, sponsored by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation, was canceled Saturday, a day after it had been announced to the media. A press release posted on the sponsoring organization's Facebook page reads, "Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns."

There is only one relevant point in all this. It doesn't matter what her politics are. It doesn't matter what party she belongs to. It doesn't matter what gender she is. All that matters is one thing: Palin is not a smart person. She is remarkably, proudly stupid. She is the variety of moron who fans the flames of hatred and division, and she does it just to make a buck. I'm a veteran who doesn't admire Palin in the least. What is there to admire? She is simply dim-witted. Can anybody show one fact, or one shred of evidence to the contrary? No? I thought not. Case closed. Moving on.

Do none of you on the Left find it the least shameful Sarah Palin can't attend a charity fundraiser in support of military families without worrying overmuch about security concerns? How about the recent cancellation of former President Bush's trip to Switzerland because of the potential for violence? For that matter, how about the harassment aimed at conservative writers and pundits who dare to speak on college campuses, which I gather you consider to be your turf? You and yours are shutting down free speech in these instances. Doesn't that bother you on some level?

Personally or anecdotally, I can't think of a single conservative who would protest the right of a Marxist-socialist idiot to freely express bad ideas and misguided opinions in a public forum. As the saying goes, I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Even more to the heart of things, the event Palin was planning to attend was a charity event in support of military families, specifically grieving children. Can you at least grant the cause is noble in this instance, or are you simply too saturated with venom to separate the personal from the political?

Flailin' Palin. She's really grasping to keep herself in the limelight now. After Tuscon, you could see in her "blood libel" video the realization in her eyes that her chances and her fame were heading for a nose-dive.

Now she flails with comments on anything and everything she doesn't know about (well, that covers a wide range), and stages this cancellation as caused by left-wing pressure, just to rile up her 24 (and shrinking) percenters to send more money her way.

She will not go quietly, that's for sure. She will continue to sink into self-parody to the point that she will almost be pitied. Almost, but not.

To report the lame reason given by the organization as if it were fact is lazy journalism. While you are at it why don't you add that angry mobs of muslims, black panthers and Mexican illegals with AK47s were making the threats.

Maybe I'm biased, as a CPA, but the real story here is whether any organization can do better hiring Sarah Palin to speak vs. not. This seems to be an extreme case where the organization wasn't even going to come close to recovering her fee and was seriously up a creek. At the Cal State event the board claimed that the event raised bucket loads of money, but it was the board members themselves who gave huge checks.

I suspect that having a "we didn't invite Sarah Palin to speak" event would generate more funds for any charity organization other than anti abortion groups. Stay home and send your money. Or maybe invite an entertaining local person, pay them $200 and give them a meal. The people who hire Sarah Palin seem to suffer from the same math defecits as their speaker.

She's a money and political opportunist and the best thing that could happen for this country is for the media to start ignoring her and some other Republican step to the fore and get her dumb ass out of the picture.

I am sure that the liberal media will launch an immediate investigation into the violent rhetoric and outright threats to an American citizen wanting to help military families in need and to raise money for a grief camp for children who had lost loved ones in combat.

Oh, wait a minute, the target is a woman and a conservative- nevermind.

Palin's speech canceled and Bush Cancels Trip to Switzerland for fear of Arrest.

Swiss Authority Claim he would have Diplomatic Immunity from being a Head of State; Would Hitler, Mussolini or Did Slobodan Milosevic have had Diplomatic Immunity at the Hague?

"Slobodan Milosevic was found dead in his cell at the Hague on March 11, 2006. His trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity has therefore ended without a verdict."

Milisevic head of State didn't have Immunity; Why should Bush?

Must've been an onslaught of stupidity that caused this org to book a demented liar like Sarah Palin.

Yes - the only governor in one hundred years to QUIT in the middle of her term without doing so to a) run for higher office or b) b/c of scandal but for c) to get rich --- yes, this is the woman we want as an example for our military? Who runs that organization?

There's your free market right there. Gotta love it, sometimes it works the way it's supposed to.

The vets group obviously admires Palin -- the spokesman said so, and they did invite her. They probably wanted to help her spin her way out of her Tucson problems by turning the lemon of the ticket sales misadventure into lemonade for their gal. But like the schemes of some of her other amateur helpers, paid and volunteer, this one didn't turn out smelling quite right.

Poor sweetie, she's in a terrible slump. Expect desperate and dramatic countermeasures complete with snide marketing taglines that will only resonate with her core 8% and turn off still greater throngs of independent voters.

"Her comments are persuasive articulations of the conservative point of view."

No, they aren't. They're articulations of a theocratic point of view where government controls people's private lives but doesn't regulate business at all.

If she were really conservative, she wouldn't want government interfering in gay people's marriages or women's right to choose who may or may not use their bodies and body parts. If she were really conservative, she wouldn't be pushing to impose her religious choices on people of other faiths or no faith. If she were really conservative, she'd want to let people live as they see fit, and wouldn't seek to use the power of government to force them to live as Sarah Palin sees fit.

Palin quits on families and children in need despite the lack of any threats against her and others? With low ticket sales reported for the event she must have determined that her personal pocketbook stood to profit more elsewhere. That's why she quit her post as Governor. If being President or VP got in the way of fame and fortune she'd quit that too. She's a modern day 'politevangelist' - blathering political platitudes and feigning faith for personal gain. Palin is less about upholding the values of Reagan so much as she is about acquiring the value of the Benjamin's.

corneliusvansant: you say "demanding obedience to the constitution (it is THE solution to all our problems)."

You know what though, Cornelius? If we submit to obeying Palin's conception of the constitution, we're in a theocracy. She has said the founders were quite clear on the point that we should base our law on the God of the Bible and the ten commandments.

When you connect that up (Glenn Beck style? maybe, but maybe not) with her Dominionist/New Apostolic Reformation/7 Mountains ties, it scares the living heck out of this citizen.

I don't want to make the "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" remark because Palin fans will attack me for sexism if I do, even though it's been used to apply to men and women.

Basically, if you can't stand criticism, don't be a public figure. Or better yet, stop dealing it out and then becoming upset when it gets tossed back.

People are not tired of Palin because she's "gifted" and can "shake things up". She is not gifted and won't shake anything up. She's a professional quitter, who attended 5 colleges, and doesn't know anything about policy. She's a new generation of "political reality figures", sort of the equivalent of Kim Kardasian, who is also not known for her brains but media savvy. The fact is that people are tired of Palin making very public appearances and either lying, making absolutely stupid statements, or criticizing the administration over issues to which she is not privy. We're all tired of hearing her blather on and on to sell books and make a fortune over pitting Americans against one another.

Palin is one of the most dishonest women in the country. Let's see now. Even though no threats have been made against her, she has to cancel an appearance before a group of her supporters, indoors, I suspect, "for safety concerns", "due to an onslaught of personal attacks",and these coming "despite her calls for civility". What she is attempting to do is to associate herself with poor Gaby Gifford, making herself also a martyr to intolerance in the process. And again, all despite the lack of threats. Utter and complete nonsense, which I would have believed was a story from The Onion, if I hadn't read it here in the Post myself.

It is comical and pathetic to see those threatened by Palin, attack her with invented and exaggerated factoids with meager substance, whatever the miscreants think will diminish her. The oft appearance of Palin's name in headlines draws hoards of trolls hyperventilate character assassination. What has Palin done to rate such venomous incivility? It is intellectual intolerance - bigotry plain and simple.

The people who slander her do so because they sense she is capable of shaking up the socialist establishment and exposing it for what it is, larceny and chains. They fear her prescient and poignant observations of the BHO egalitarian agenda.

Cretins trash Palin with blatant sexist stereotypes (while N.O.W. stands silent). It is juvenile schoolboy mocking by miscreants who have no intellectual arguments. Objections come from liberal intolerance of her ideas, not her ability. Anyone with an education who reads her writing cannot dispute her intelligence without ludicrous hyperbole.

She is a news magnet; she controls it with one sentence tweets. Who else can do that? Her comments are persuasive articulations of the conservative point of view. In spite of liberal mockery, conservatism is legitimate, demanding obedience to the constitution (it is THE solution to all our problems).

Convincing BS, but still BS.

Palin is a twit. It's that simple. If she were a "he" the reaction would be the same. I've read excerpts from her books. She would only seem smart to someone equally as deluded as she is.

However, it's not as simple as saying the Constitution is the answer to all our problems.

The public spoke by keeping their pocketbooks closed.

How many attacks can they get in less than one day? And would they really scare Sarah Palin? I suspect that possibly Palin wasn't actually confirmed as the speaker or that she decided not to attend for other reasons. (Not to be unduly skeptical here, but I've seen such things happen with other organizations.) Be interesting to see if other Palin events are cancelled for this reason. Also be interesting to see what she does on May 2.

So all the hatred and venom here--from Democrats--the same ones who leaped to the assumption that the Republican alleged "hate speech" caused the Gifford shooting in AZ. So now of course the truth is clear: Dems are the true source of hate speech, name calling, and sexist attacks (just ask Hillary what support she got from her own party in that respect). Namecalling is what you do when you don't have a valid argument.
