Huckabee claims inaccurately that Obama was raised in Kenya

By Emi Kolawole

Last updated at 5:17 p.m.:

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee got his facts wrong when he claimed twice during an interview Monday that President Obama was raised in Kenya.

During an interview with The Steve Malzberg Show, Huckabee said the president, "having grown up in Kenya," would have a different - more hostile - perspective on the British:

I would love to know more. What I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American.

He repeated the claim, saying:

...if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.

The Associated Press reports that a Huckabee adviser did not have an immediate explanation for Huckabee's comments

The president, a United States citizen, was in fact raised in Hawaii and Indonesia. The president's father was born in Kenya and his mother was born in Kansas.

Huckabee did not go as far as to say the president did not grow up in the United States or that his birth certificate was forged, as "birthers" believe. Asked if he would ask the president about his birth certification in a debate, Huckabee said:

The only reason I'm not as confident that there's something about the birth certificate, Steve, is because I know the Clintons [inaudible] and believe me, they have lots of investigators out on him, and I'm convinced if there was anything that they could have found on that, they would have found it, and I promise they would have used it.

Huckabee is a host on the FOX News Channel and is expected to consider a 2012 presidential bid.

The interview audio is available here, the conversation begins around minute 13:00.

UPDATE 5:17 p.m.: Huckabee spokesman Hogan Gidley gave the following statement to Politico:

"Governor Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in 'Kenya.' The Governor meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia."
"When the Governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the President, he wasn't talking about the President's place of birth - the Governor believes the President was born in Hawaii. The Governor would however like to know more about where President Obama's liberal policies come from and what else the President plans to do to this country - as do most Americans."

I doubt that the lily white republican party will ever get over being bested by a black man. Obama's win was like twisting a corkscrew into their guts>>>> This is the most accurate post that I have seen on the web. Mike is a old time white southern preacher. Does not have a clue how to run a country. Good post papafritz571 |

So, Huckabee admission that he mistakenly substituted Kenya for Indonesia really doesn't make a difference to the left-wing.
And, the fact that the discussion had nothing to do with the "birther" issue that the left relishes. He was speaking about Obama's father's culture. I don't recall the left acknowledging Obama's mistake when he couldn't remember how many states are in the union.

Wow - Look at all the vitriolic knee-jerk posts from the Boston-DC Coastal Corridor Commies who read the Compost. They'd really go apoplectic if they read World Net Daily, where Joseph Farah is offering $10K to anyone who can verify the name of the Hawaiian hospital where the Bamster was allegedly born. Why don't one of you geniuses "in the know" go there (www.wnd.com) and pick up some cool cash?

There is an original filed birth certificate showing that Barak Hussein Obama II was born in Mombasa, Keyna. There are credible witnesses that were there and so state. Barark's mother they say flew him to Hawaii four days later and registered him as a newborn there.

The certificate looks more authentic than the one from Hawaii.

It an old lawyer trick. It doesn't matter whether it's true or not, the object is to plant a seed of doubt that it might be true. A lot of people will hear his words, but not the correction of his words, and think its true. Right now, probably 10% of the population thinks Obama grew up in Kenya, all because of the lying Repubs & tea nuts. It's because they are such blatant, unashamed, lying bunch of people that I post comments against the repubs.

Sadly, although he generally comes across as a nice guy, Huckabee is lying through his teeth. He didn't misspeak and say "Kenya" by mistake; his quote makes absolutely no sense if "Indonesia" is substituted.

And Huckabee certainly knows Obama's history, and knows that he grew up with very little contact with his father, who therefore wasn't around to indoctrinate the future President against the British.

Indonesia had a colonial period, but the Brits didn't have much to do with it.

I am sorry for the Nike Huckabees and everyone else who say that Obama is not an American citizen. If he was not, there is no way that the Democrats and Republican would let him be President. I believe that that Black face is driving those racist hearts crazy. I think that you are saying "I ain't taking no orders from that "N" We are the Masters and that slave can't tell us nothing." Forgive me black people, maybe Huck got black blood in him and he is scared of your finding out. Check those records and see what you find out.

Get over it folks, Mr. Obama is the President and I am hoping for a second term.

So media matters is telling us Obama was not raised in Kenya does it? Well how are they privy to this revelation? Huckabee is closer to the truth than what has ever been revealed. So if media matters wishes to question the Huckabee slip up, strut your stuff and show us the proof. Obama displays his dads anti colonialism and he sat for years in a so called church that teaches liberation theology which is African socialism. Huckebee is far closer to the truth in his slip up than media matters in its attempt to exaggerate a slip of the tongue.
Oh and by the way, do you think Obama has figured out yet the actual number of states in our union? He thought there were 57.
Duh!

Huckabee’s geographical mistake concerning Obama’s childhood does not take away from the point he was making that was both accurate and valid. Obama did not have the normal upbringing that American presidents have. This is quite obvious in the way he governs. His 20 year association with Reverend Wright, and many of his czars past and present like Van Jones are indeed considered radical by millions of American people. Obama’s admiration for Saul Alinsky is one that should send a red flag to anyone who is against Socialism.

Where was the bias Liberal press when Obama:

Stated that we had 57 States in the US?

Made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics?

Visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent "Austrian language”?

Had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again.

Does the author of this article really think writing about this is news worthy? You are over paid and under qualified.

I think we have to give Huckabee the benefit of the doubt. After all, he did indicate he misspoke. He has to wade through an environment of right-wing lies and propaganda, and I imagine it is difficult to keep his head straight. He's generally a rare type of conservative, willing to take positions that don't always pander to the GOP base.

chuck2 ... Everyone can make a mistake - see the one that WAPO made on its website reference to this story ... http://voices.washingtonpost.com/politics/white-house.html?nid=roll_whitehouse ;

where they assert that Huckabee said Obama was born in Kenya.... yet according to the story, Huckabee DID NOT SAY that!

Just as Obama and many other people in public life, Huckabee made a mistake - as he points out, in the book he is currently promoting, he clearly states that Obama spent part of his childhood in Indonesia. He also doesn't dispute Obama's birth...so this entire story was unnecessary and merely a WAPO leftwing "Gotcha" that they will bring up time and again if Huckabee decides to run for office.

Even leftwing partisans should see this clearly for what it is ... nonsense!

I have lost all respect for Huckabee given he is obviously attempting to stir the pot and spread misinformation in an effort to skew viewpoints of Obama. Even if he had said Indonesia instead of Kenya, he would have been spreading misperceptions. While Obama did spend some early years in Indonesia, he was primarily educated at a private school in Hawaii and later attended and graduated Harvard -- a good U.S. education indeed! Does anybody know where Mr. Huckabee was educated?

It is unfair to label Huckabee as a nutcase. This reminds me of when Ronald Reagan was accused of being racist. Reagan used racist rhetoric to get the racist vote, but he was not actually racist himself. In this case, Huckabee is spouting Birther/Glen Beck type nonsense to shore up support from ignorant, narrow-minded right wingers, not because he actually believes it himself.

Conversation with so called 'nice' conservative and a 'Christian' pastor.

His obvious falsehood of Obama growing up in Kenya stands for everyone to see and everyone will focus on that. However I want to point to the disgraceful fall of the neo-conservative ideology. They always proclaim the love of the American revolution and end of British empire in America. However they now have decided that no other society or nation in the world had the right to fight British colonialism! Kenyan independence fighters were terrorists or let me use the word 'haters' but our own fight was glorious.

Conservative arguments used to be intellectually much more robust and coherent in the past. They never historically supported colonialism. What else can you expect when you are forced to cater to the lowest common denominator of ignorance in the Tea Party movement.

Mr Huckabee your comment, 'he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather' smacks of intellectual ineptitude at best but plain, simple racism at worst. To suggest that Kenyans were not capable of formulating the argument against British colonialism without hating British people displays your racism - nothing else.

Sometimes Huckabee sounds like he's stupid. This is one of those times. He's reciting bigotry out of GlenBeckland. Obama was raised by his white Christian American mother and her white Christian American parents. On his mother's side he's got DAR roots. His father left his mother when Obama was an infant. After that Obama had one or two short visits with his father on American soil before the father died. Obama didn't know from Kenya until he was an adult.

On top of that, Obama's father was not part of the ethnic group/tribe that was part of the pre-WWI Mau Mau uprising in Kenya. What ignorant idiocy Huckabee spouts. I thought he was smarter than that.

As far as the Harvard Law Review, please repost one single article with his as the byline - you can't because there are none. You don't find it odd that the editor of a prestigious publication never published a single article. The answer comes form the FACT that editors usually are reserved the privilege of addressing the most controversial of topics. Needless to say - the HLR is not going to give that task to this imbecile.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you take your foot out of your mouth, you might want to check GOOGLE...not sure if you heard of that and type in "Harvard Law Review Obama". Look at what I found by doing just a little research:

First Black Elected to Head Harvard's Law Review
By FOX BUTTERFIELD, Special to The New York Times
Published: February 06, 1990

BOSTON, Feb. 5 — The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School.

The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school. His late father, Barack Obama, was a finance minister in Kenya and his mother, Ann Dunham, is an American anthropologist now doing fieldwork in Indonesia. Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii.

''The fact that I've been elected shows a lot of progress,'' Mr. Obama said today in an interview. ''It's encouraging.

''But it's important that stories like mine aren't used to say that everything is O.K. for blacks. You have to remember that for every one of me, there are hundreds or thousands of black students with at least equal talent who don't get a chance,'' he said, alluding to poverty or growing up in a drug environment.

The Huckster knows his way around lying like a fallen preacher. This is from today's Politico and show how disingenuous the man really is. Mau Mau Revolution indeed! It is clear he said and meant Kenya regardless of his later explanations.

"Huckabee, a critic of the Obama administration and possible 2012 Republican presidential candidate, explained that he "meant to say Indonesia," not Kenya, in a conversation Monday with WOR Radio talk show host Steve Malzberg.

His statement said the New York Times and other media outlets "ran with the 'sensationalized story' despite being specifically told by Steve Malzburg himself that they were incorrect in their assessment of the sound bite."

Politics Daily, in its account of the interview, noted that Huckabee said Obama's upbringing in Kenya had apparently made the president anti-British -- the consequence of lingering resentment against British colonial rule in the 1950s.

"If you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya, with a Kenyan father and grandfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution is very different than ours, because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."

But substitute "Indonesia" for Kenya -- the slip of the tongue -- and Huckabee's remarks in context no longer make sense."

The orthographically-challenged posters who insist on using inappropriate pseudonyms (e.g., Barry, Soetoro, Bam) for President Barack Obama need to grow up.

Such partisan insults and mendacity posted as comments eventually backfire.

Huckabee is just another example of "foot-in-mouth" disorder characteristic of these hate-mongers.

For the record: President Obama was born in Hawaii, spent four years as a child in Indonesia, returned to Hawaii when he was about ten years old, was brought up by his American mother and grandparents, educated in US schools, attended Harvard where he was editor in chief of the Harvard Law Review. These are all verifiable facts.

Former President Ford was adopted as a child; no one had the stupidity and disrespect to use any other name to refer to him. The current batch of hate-mongers are a disgrace to our country. They have no credibility and should not be allowed to post their distortions on this site.

If the Bible-thumping liar and Rupert Murdoch shill, Mike Huckabee is to gain the nomination of the do-nothing party of no, he will have to appeal to bigots, hatemongers and racist Tea Baggers. Huckabee's mispoken words have revealed him for the little bigot that he is.

However, if Mike Huckabee is to get out in front of Haley Barbour, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and the Wasilla quitter who hides behind Facebook and Twitter, he will have to sell himself as a died in the wool bloody-jawed racist birther bigot who burns with racist hate and spreads racist lies and racist stereotyes while he thumps a Bible and acts as Rupert Murdoch's bird-dog.

Another misconcept is that Bam´s father was a "Muslim".... By birth, yes.. not by faith... and again "yes" he had more than one wife - Muslim rights.... - probable reason for Ann to scoot back to Hawaii and get rid of him... after she found out.. There are no records of the 2 living together in Hawaii when back from vacation with "gramma" Sarah in Kenya at the time Ann was "too far" in her term to fly back....
Even Lolo Soetoro (I spell his name the Dutch way) wasn´t a mat-praying Islamic.... 99.99% of Indonesians are neither.... too much Buddha !!... BoroBudur, Java.... and Barry did not attend a "Muslim"school but a regular (cost free) school for Indonesians (like in Dutch times) as Ann and Lolo could not afford the Catholic "nun" school in Benteng, Batavia(Djakarta).. reason why Lolo "adopted" Barry as his son so he could go to school in an "no cost" Indonesian school... Reason also why Ann couldn´t mix with the "white" Europeans in Djakarta... she was the wife of an Indonesian !!.... Reason again why she returned to Hawaii and left Lolo to himself...

Yes.. it is true that Bam has no heart for the Brits.. he´d found out they "interrogated" his grampa for a number of hours.. contents of which is not for public scruteny... so we don´t know and neither does Bam why the Brits picked on his grampa.... All I "know !!" is that gramp was an Arab slave trader for the Brits.. they wouldn´t have used a Bantu or Massai or other negro from any African tribe.... The Brits used Arabs... !! That´s for all I know.. As for Bam´s own father, "gramma" Sarah (an African Luo) was not his blood gramma ... she was one of his Arab grampa´s 4 legal wives.. Bam´s real gramma (of Arab blood) died when Bam´s dad was still a young kid so Bam´s dad was fostered out to Sarah... one of the 4 most favored wives of Gramp.... But Bam´s father was the main "follow up Hussein", son of a very important man in British colonial times and was sent to "college"... Now take it from there... Bam has nó Negro features... but don´t take my "word"... I only found out thru my own "connections"... (don´t ask.. whatever was burried deep in the web has been lifted out since) years before Bam was elected Potus.. If any of you are very cosy with the Brits then you may get behind any truth and shed the hearsay.. I´ve said enough so it´s time for me to have a drink...

Why? Because the hospital certificate is not considered or accepted as a legal document. It's given to the parents and is more ceremonial than legal. The legal document is issued by the state office of vital statistics, who maintain all records, of birth, marriage, divorce, abd death. Some hospitals do not even give a hospital certificate to the parents.

People if you want to denigrate someone on this issue you should call them a "vetter" and not a "birther". Obama was never vetted for the White House and slip through a loophole in the vetting system. I am sorry, but posting a photograph on the moveon website does not rise to the level of vetting.

Further, there is a legitimate question about the type of birth certificate Hawaii claims to be holding. Is it the type Obama's grandmother could have obtain while little Obama was in Kenya, or is it the type that the hospital where Obama claims to be born at would issue? The lax Hawaiian immigration laws were changed in 1972, and any birth certificates issued prior to that date are suspect because a Hawaiian resident could obtain a birth certification just on their signature.

Wow! Huckabee "misspoke." The tenor of his comment was that Obama was not raised in the context of American values and so did not absorb as we do by osmosis certain information and attitudes, which McCain born on an American army post, did. It is ingrained in Americans that there are 50 states, not 57. Where did Obama grow up? He is a foreigner by indoctrination if nothing else.

Why does Obama refuse to release his actual birth certificate showing the hospital where he was delivered, and the doctor who delivered him?

Why does Obama refuse to release his school records which might disclose just who paid for his college tuition. Was he provided tuition as a foreign national?

What is the rational for not providing this information? Hmm. If the information supports contentions concerning his eligibility to hold office, then there is none. I would appreciate someone who could present a rational for non-disclosure.

All that said, the Governor is a nice guy. But he and Obama seem to both lack the intellect and background necessary to serve well in the office. That is regrettable. Gingrich is "smart enough," but he is damaged goods. It appears as if Romney would do as good a job as anyone on the horizon. He's experienced, smart, and has a positive and non-malicious disposition.

Parenthetically, I don't view Obama's oratory and method of delivery of speeches as extraordinarily good or even satisfactory. His staccato delivery seems stilted and offputting. It wouldn't be worthy of mention if somehow his performance were not projected as great communication. It's the same as the media presenting Mrs. Obama as stylish and fashionable and beautiful. Her public appearance is a demonstration of couturier's skill, but she is a singularly unattractive and bottom-heavy woman reflecting steatopygia in her lineage. Most of us may not be demonstrations of beauty and splendor, but don't shove such misperceptions regarding attributes of public figures in our faces as somehow being reality. Remember that "The Emperor Wore No Clothes." Good grief. Get real.

Why in the world does You Guys continue to go down this road? Lets assume for the sake of argument that President Obama was born in Kenya.
At som point in time during his 48 years on earth he would have had to become a US Citizen like so many Millions of foreign residents. Dont you think that by now after races for the State Senate and the US Senate his records would have been Scubbed to look for any incriminating documents. Its not like his name is John Joseph Roberts Barack Obama jumps off the page,
Now if he was not Naturalized at any point in time then he is an Illegal resident. In order to become a Senator and President he would have to have gotten Security Clearance dont you think they would have uncovered something by now.
And even if he was born in Kenya he is far superior intellectually than many of the Politicans and writers to this post wwho are stil
questioning his birth place.
What its boils down to in my opinion is that many of you just refuse to accept the legitamacy of a Black Man as President. He is more accomplished that the last President. So for many of you to continue to beat this drum that he no American --Not one of us , some how not legitamate is a bunch of you know wht. An you guys know better

"Governor Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in 'Kenya.' The Governor meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia."

Just a few comments..... the word "allude" means–
1. to refer casually or indirectly; to contain a casual or indirect reference

Huckabee DIDN'T allude to anything. He made a DIRECT claim that Obama grew up in Kenya and corraborated that with his Mau Mau reference, so he absolutely knew what he was saying.

"Misspoke" evidently now means baldfaced lying or being completely ignorant. I'll let his spokesman pick which one his boss is.......

...So far the only public confirmation of Obama's citizenship is the "short form" birth certificate from Hawaii. Even IF what you say is true (it isn't), then President Obama would STILL be a natural born US citizen. That designation does not REQUIRE the child be born in America (President Obama WAS) and long as one of his parents was an American citizen. In any case, the short form carries the same legal weight as the long form. And it states that he was born in Hawaii. Case Closed.

You apparently don't have a problem with the FACT that John McCain was born in the Panama Canal.

If the entire point of Huckster's comment was to claim that Obama was overly British, then he shows glaring ignorance on history and geography. Indonesia was a Dutch colony, never a British one. If Obama had a displaced loyalty due to his couple of years in Indonesia when he wasn't living in the US state of Hawai'i, then it would be to Queen Beatrix, not to Queen Elizabeth II.

Of course we know the entire crux of the speech was to imply that Obama isn't a "real American", but some furrener that we should fear rather than trust.

I guess we can just lump Huckster in with Gov Goodhair, who have 10 years as Governor of Texas thinks Juarez is in the US, not Mexico.

I really don't know what to make of this. Is it ignorance and stupidity? Hard to believe that a former Governor and Presidential candidate would not know about the President's background and upbringing in Hawaii and Indonesia. Was it deliberate then, designed to win over that 51% of Republican primary voters who think the President was born elsewhere? Surely, though, he would know that his deliberate misstatements would be uncovered. At least you would think so. You really have to question the bona fides of a candidate who could make such a blatantly stupid remark.

If you want to see Obama's Kenyan birth certificates go to http://catholicbook.com near top of home page. Huckabee was mistaken as Barack left Kenya 4 days after his birth as his mom took him to Honolulu and after a few years married an Indonesian so moved Barack to Indonesia. Barack's official name on his Kenyan birth certificates is Barack Hussein Obama II. Later Barack was trained by the Russian Academy of Sciences to be a communist and atheist which Russians revealed in 1992. Barack is an excellent communist as he has destroyed our finances and weakened our missile defenses and military.

Even his assistant's comment that he misspoke has a ring of falsehood to it. If I believed that he said "Kenya" when he meant "Indonesia", that would be one thing, but then suppose that is true, then the governor is really showing his lack of knowledge because he would be saying the MauMau urising took place in Indonesia which is a long way from where it actually happened. Incidently, exactly what is the problem with an anti-British anti colonialism attitude? Wasn't that behind such things as the Declaration of Independence. Now if aa Democrat said that, the Republicans would claim they were anti-American for not supporting the American Revolution. What then must be said about Huckabee?

Clearly the apology is a made up thing and the governor is doing what so many Fox broadcasters do, putting a phony spin on something to minimize damage. And as usual, one doing so digs himsef into a deeper hole.

Obama was born 8/4/61 at Coast Provincial General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya after his mother triggered labor pains by swimming at a Mombasa beach trying to cool off after attending a Muslim festival in Mombasa with her husband and his mother Sarah Obama. Four days later mom took Barack to Honolulu and on August 12 completed a Certificate of Live Birth in Honolulu which triggered two newspaper announcements of Barack's birth listing his maternal grandparents address as his address. A few years later his mother married an Indonesian and moved Barack to Indonesia where he attended a Catholic school but took Muslim religious instruction at the school.

Apart from his mistakes regarding Obama's personal history, he also misrepresented the Mau Mau uprising. He suggests, first of all, that Americans have a different view of it than do Kenyans. I'd be very surprised if more than 1% of Americans know anything at all about it. Second, he implies that the British did not in fact brutally suppress the Mau Mau, and that this erroneous idea is something only Kenyans, having received this myth orally from their elders, could hold. But the brutal British suppression of the Mau Mau, involving guilt by association, incarceration without trial, torture, murder and assassination are well documented by scholars. One such documentation is the excellent book "Imperial reckoning : the untold story of Britain's gulag in Kenya", by Caroline Elkins. Oh, yeah: Then there are the demeaning colonial conditions under which Kenyans lived while the Brits ran the country, which gave rise to the Mau Mau rebellion in the first place.

Huckabee is a dangerous anti-intellectual know-nothing, as are all politicians who believe literally in the non-existent magic of religion-- be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism or Buddhism.

Huckabee specifically talked about Obama growing up in Kenya and hearing about the Mau Mau revolt against the Brits. How could that possibly have been just inadvertently using "Kenya" rather than "Indonesia". Last I checked there was no Mau Mau revolt against the Brits in Indonesia.

Huckabee was either deliberately lying or just making it up as he went in the interviewing and saying whatever he thought would make Obama look bad. And the response from his aide is a joke. You can't talk specifically about Mau Mau revolts against the Brits and then say "Oh, I really meant Indonesia and I just said Kenya by mistake." What a load of BS.

Anyone that buys that explanation is an idiot.

Birthers, birth certificates, oh my!

This nonsense has always been a smokescreen for the growing awareness of the fact that the current president continues to conceal virtually the entire paper trail of his existence in a tight shroud of secrecy.

It had become customary in postwar modern times for presidential candidates to allow for the release and scrutiny of the substantive body of their personal records and credentials, indeed up until 2008 in large measure because of a strong interest from the mainstream media.

The appearance of Barack Hussein Obama upon the national political scene changed that dynamic, and he received an astonishing special exception from this traditional practice.

In their eagerness to "make history" by covering the campaign of the man whom they were clearly very interested in helping to become the first black president, the mainstream media forgot their essential national responsibility, namely to report on significant events with thoroughness and impartial objectivity. They ignored their duty to search for the truth and should be regarded with disdain by all people who value information in a free society.

Democratic incumbents at all levels of government, as well as rank and file voters, might well demand to know exactly how Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and the rest of their party leadership allowed a person who was obviously given only the most cursory sort of vetting to become their presidential nominee.

It is certainly true that there have been a few occasions when postwar presidential candidates have been evasive or less than completely forthcoming in meeting the expectations of the American voters for an honest accounting of their past.

The medical records of JFK were allegedly sanitized to delete his diagnosis of Addison's disease and history of treatments for STD related maladies. The financial records of LBJ were allegedly altered to conceal the extent of his business ownerships and investment holdings. The national guard service records of W were allegedly missing or incomplete regarding his attendance and compliance with certain standard regulations.

All of these instances pale in comparison with the astounding unprecedented totality of secrecy that guards practically every original record and document from the entire past of the current president.

Virtually the entire paper trail of Barack Hussein Obama's existence, from birth to the White House, continues to remain deeply hidden away.

Obama and his handlers were able to successfully hide his past and explain away and minimize his associations with highly controversial individuals and groups during their 2008 campaign.

Will they able to effectively repeat this deception between now and 6 November 2012?

Only if you let them.

We should be more concerned about how Huckabee was born and raised. He is a preacher man and we know how they use religious to get their way. They are very deceptive.

I would suggest it is his religious up bring that influences his opinion. So is his religion worthy of being considered a proper view. I suggest not. The religions divide and are divisive in their belief. Their history to the present day has not been respectable to say the least. Religions fail because of their false premise that they have built their view upon. The religions continue to state that there is some magical man or supernatural being that has made some rules for mankind. They say that the magical being, God, has said all sorts of things. They do this with not even one small thread of evidence and without any logic or reason to support their claim. Some even say there is this other magical being, the devil that controls all the other people that don’t believe in their God. This absurd nonsense is certainly not a good philosophy for a presidential position. With today’s knowledge obtained through the sciences with logic and reason we can certainly find a better person than the Huckster to run for president.

So don’t worry so much about where the Huckabee was born but what he would do if elected president. Mr. Huckabee, is no defender of people’s freedoms. He is only a defender of the religious, holier than thou attitude. He would not make a good candidate for the office of president or for that matter any office that represents people. True the left doth protest to much...this great country, the United States of America was founded on Godly principles, and will only remain great if we keep them. The left do not know God, acknowledge God, understand God or God's ways and therefore do not truely know and understand "good" and consequently pervert all that is good (and remain clueless all the while and assigning their ignorance to others).
If the office of the President of the United States of America requires certification of the potential holder of that office to show proof (public) that they are a US citizen, then they should, no ifs, ands or butts.
So far the only public confirmation of Obama's citizenship is the "short form" birth certificate from Hawaii. In case you don't know, at that time, any child born any where in the world to an american citizen (adult) and brought to Hawaii could obtain a (short form) birth certificate for that child. However, there would be no "long form" birth certificate which specifally states that the child was actually "born" in the state (Hawaii). Obama to-date has not produced a Hawaiian long form birth certificate to the citizens of this country and shame on him. Follow the law and meet the requirements if you want to hold the office.
The terms "liberal" and "democrat" both have changed meaning significantly throughout America's history, what is relevant is what is stands for currently. For you liberals that advocate socialism in America, stop trashing my great country and go live in one of the countless socialist countries throughout the world that I'm sure can greatly benefit by your contributions. Us conservatives LIKE and want to keep (while we are still a democratic republic where majority is supposed to rule (not w/ the Healthcare bill)what our founding fathers contrived for America, we respect the men and women who have fought and given their lives for those very principles, so for those of you who do not appreciate this wonderful country for what she is, please please please go offer your talents elsewhere in the world, America does not want you and mostly she does not need you.

They know Obama is an American citizen. They know he never set foot in Kenya until he was an adult. They just want so badly to believe that this President just can't be one of us because of the color of his skin that it blinds and deafens them to any version of a truth that does not portray Obama as some sort of sinister "other".

I'm still reeling over Tennessee's little shot over the bow today. Really? Banning certain tenets of the Muslim faith? The fact that such a law is actually given a good chance at passing is stunning. The fact that its purpose is given any credence by normally rational people is beyond stunning.

Anyway. Can we maybe start, oh, fact checking? Can we start to check our emotional baggage at the door when we discuss the future of this great nation?

Maybe?

Huckabee may know a few things, but he doesn't know everything; and most importantly, he doesn't know then to keep his mouth shut. A fault that he shares with Joe Biden, and which basically disqualifies him as a viable candidate for President.

I'm kind of disappointed that Chuck Norris ever endorsed him.

Well, here we are over half a century later and you gnat brains on the far right are still issuing the same lame warning. Since the days of McCarthy and the Birch Society frantically warning us, do you realize how many generations of young Americans have held Mock United Nations scenarios in their international politics classes and then gone on to work profitably in the free markets of the world within systems you would consider socialist, and the world did not suddenly turn into the sinister, one world order you have been breathlessly warning us about?

As a moderate conservative, one of the things that I find most annoying about all forms of discourse in DC these days is the problem that most politicians don't seem to know the pertinent facts before they offer advice, commentary, or policy suggestions.

As a moderate Democrat, I have had respect for Mike Huckabbe and many of the practical things that he has spoken in the past. The simple truth is the FOX noise corrupts even the best. I would prefer to believe that Huckabee needs to flee from the grasp of FOX if he wants to salvage any of his reputation. Talk about Kool Aid.

This misspeaking thing is a joke. Explain the verbal faux pas away with this excuse. And Huckabee wants to be President.

Personally, the U.S. Constitution makes no mention about where a person grew up. It has something to say about birth location. John McCain was NOT born in the United States of America. Yet, the Democrats do not make noise about it. So what gives with the Republicans and their obsession with Obama's birthplace and so forth? Could it be that it all boils down to the name, Barack Hussein Obama? Prejudice talks when one has the obsession with a person's name.

Hi IowaLad. At March 2, 2011 10:19 AM you wrote in part, echoing the beliefs of other "birthirs":

"Unlike any repeat any prior President of the United States, the American citizen today has no confirmed and legal idea of where Obama was born. The State of Hawaii can't or won't even produce a certificate of birth for Obama certified by a doctor, a midwife, or the medical facility where the birth occurred. Have you considered that the Clintons, who were obviously extremely eager that Hillary win the Democratic nomination, and who were both attorneys, did not challenge the Obama candidacy on this ground? Don't you think they checked out his birth and realized it was in the US?

Have you considered that the Republican Party, obviously well armed with legal talent and aggressive to the point of ruthlessness, did not challenge the Obama candidacy either?

You are not correct about the birth certificate. It has been produced and authenticated. I have seen a copy in a TV broadcast.

Your belief that the President's story is not well documented is quite amazing in view of the facts. Among other sources, try reading the President's books, such as "The Audacity of Hope." You can check out statements he makes in public sources that he did and does not control.

If you do this, you will ease your mind.

If Mike Huckabee merely made a mistake in saying "Kenya" rather than "Indonesia" (a very common mistake indeed), then why did he use the Mau-Mau uprising as an example of Obama's upbringing?
Neither the Mau-Mau tribesmen nor (apparently) Mike Huckabee could find Indonesia on a map of Indonesia.
He said what he said and he meant what he said. Issuing a staement through a staff member, trying to weasel ot of it make is just that much worse.

@jaxass: "is it a crime to be liberal?"
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++You just might be a liberal, if you think that:
1. the US should be subservient to the United Nations - our highest authority is not God and the US Constitution, but a collective of tinpot dictators and their appeasers
2. calls for increased security after a terrorist attack are “political opportunism,” but calls for more gun control after a criminal’s spree killing is “a logical solution”
3. “It Takes a Village” does not mean creeping socialist government involvement in the nuclear family
4. disarming innocent, law-abiding citizens helps protect them from evil, lawless thugs
5. slowly killing an unborn innocent by tearing it apart limb from limb is GOOD, slowly killing an innocent disabled woman by starving her to death is GOOD, but quickly killing terrorists, convicted murderers and rapists is BAD
6. minorities are blameless for the hatred of racists, women are blameless for the hatred of sexists, but America is entirely at fault for the hatred of Islamofascists
7. socialized medicine is the ideal goal, regardless of all those people who spend every dime they have to get to the United States so they can get the quality medical care that their nation’s socialized health care can’t provide
8. any president who lies under oath is okay, but a president who references sixteen words from an allies’ intelligence report should be dragged through the streets naked
9. “the People” in the First, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments means “the People,” but “the People” in the Second Amendment (ratified in 1791) means the National Guard (created by Congress in 1903)
10. a woman has a “right to choose” to kill her unborn child, but don’t believe that same woman is competent enough to home school the children she bears
11. everyone must unquestioningly support a junior senator with negligible political experience and traceable personal history for president - ‘cause, like, if you don’t, well...dude, you’re a racist!
12. being against illegal immigration is racist, regardless of the fact that "illegal" isn't listed as a race category on the census form
13. global warming is caused by humans burning fossil fuels, which is why the last Ice Age ended a mere 10,000 years before the invention of the internal combustion engine
14. Congress must create a “Fairness Doctrine” to counter the commercial success of conservative talk radio, regardless of the fact that we already have a government-subsidized liberal mouthpiece called National Public Radio
15. the pseudoscience of "global warming" must be unquestioningly accepted because so many scientists say it's real, regardless of the fact that 25 years ago the same scientists said we were headed for a catastrophic ice age, and 50 years ago they said that Caucasians were genetically superior

DISAPPOINTED IN GOVERNOR HUCKABEE

As an Independent who firmly supports the President, I consider former Governor Huckabee one of the better Republican leaders. I especially admire his support of cancer research and his appreciation of the health burden that cancer creates. I also admire his disease prevention activities and commitment.

However, it is a great disappointment to learn that he knows so little about the President's background, about "where the President is coming from" in a literal sense. While his spokesperson passed off the mistake as simply a speaking error, Governor Huckabee's reference to the Mau Mau uprising clearly showed this was more than just a speaking gaffe.

A key leadership quality is being able to listen attentively to political opponents and to learn about them with understanding and insight. Governor Huckabee appears to lack this quality, despite many other admirable traits.

Let me just say that what ever has been done to this country was done by the last Bush administration and its corporate cronies. It will take another ten years for the U.S. to recover from the stunning arrogance and incompetence of Bush, Cheyney and Rumsfeld.

Hickabee says he wants to know where Obama's "liberal" policies come from. Think about that asinine statement. He talks about liberalism as though it is criminal. In fact, Liberalism has a far longer tradition in America than this current brand of illegitimate conservatism which is more akin to nihilism.

The Founding Fathers were the liberals of their day. In fact, Friedrich Hakek--the author of the modern conservative movement's handbook, THE ROAD TO SERFDOM--actually referred to the Founders as Classical Liberals. The essence of Classical Liberalism is incorporated into the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.

This new, more radical brand of conservatism is not really conservatism at all but Nihilism posturing as conservatism. One of the primary elements of Nihilism is that there is no objective truth and that truth is subjective. Indeed, utilizing the Nihilists' on the right's subjective methodology for determining the truth of a thing, one could still make a case that the earth is at the center of our solar system. Or that the earth is flat. Or that the moon landing was a hoax. Or that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim out to establish a world wide caliphate.

Reading the comments about this article, it's more apparent to me that DC is the southern end of the Boston - NYC - Philadelphia - Baltimore - Bethesda Commie Coastal Corridor. This socialist island is inhabited by white elitist liberals, and liberalism is truly a mental disorder; the primary symptom of most delusion disorders is called "projection," wherein the patient accuses others (usually straw men) of possessing their own psychological flaws:
1) everyone who is not a liberal is a "racist:" this is because they subconsciously feel that racial minorities are genetically inferior, so they HAD to vote for Mr. Soetoro in order to assuage their "white guilt"
2) everyone who questions Mr. Soetoro's bonafides is a "birther:" this term was coined because 80% or so of them are "truthers" who believe the US government intentionally blew up the World Trade Center; is it easier to believe that or maybe believe that Nancy Pelosi unknowingly or intentionally verified an ineligible candidate on the Democrat National Committee nomination form?
3) everyone who does not believe Mr. Soetoro walks on water is a "teabagger:" most of these white elitists are either openly gay or have latent homosexual tendencies; thus they project homoerotic fantasies on their political opponents
4) anyone who wants to see the paper trail Messrs. Soetoro & Soros have spent millions to hide is "insane:" they seem to all suffer from the "emperor has no clothes" mass hysteria and thus project delusional behavior on those who point out the obvious fact that he has no clothes
5) I'm just sayin'....

Elements of the mainstream media and various other Obama apologists are quick to focus on the so-called "birthers" whenever any mention is made of the growing awareness of the fact that the current president continues to conceal virtually the entire paper trail of his existence in a tight shroud of secrecy.

By portraying the birthers as irrational or deranged individuals obsessed with the belief that Barack Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia or elsewhere outside of the United States, they seek to avoid any emphasis on the astounding unprecedented totality of secrecy that guards practically every original record and document from his entire life.

Americans of all political persuasions can recall the Obama 2008 campaign repeatedly promising that their administration would uphold the highest ethical standards with a particular emphasis on transparency.

A vast majority of these voters believe that the process of running for President of the United States should be the toughest public job interview on the planet.

The sad fact remains that the current president, according to longstanding government clearance protocols, could not be hired as a janitor in a federal building with the amount of personal background information that he has provided.

Barack Obama's original typewritten long form birth certificate (if in fact it has ever existed), school records, SAT and LSAT scores, college and law school admission records and grade transcripts and thesis papers, medical records, passport history, Illinois state senate tenure records, presidential campaign foreign donor lists, complete White House visitor logs and other relevant records and documents have all never been released or allowed to be subjected to any sort of scrutiny, despite several years of repeated requests for disclosure by numerous individuals and non-traditional media organizations.

The Obama 2008 campaign and subsequent administration have to date spent a substantial sum on legal fees, estimated in the millions of dollars, to fight Freedom of Information Act filings and other requests to examine this material. The powerful international law firm Perkins Coie LLP has been their primary provider of these services.

In fact, astute observers consider that the infamous original typewritten long form birth certificate, the most widely discussed item from Obama's hidden paper trail, is actually the least relevant of all of his concealed records and documents, again, if in fact it has ever existed.

The understand that the truth about Barack Obama's place of birth and the identity of both of his parents is far less important to the future of the United States than the facts about what makes him tick and who is pulling his strings, so to speak.

This is the sort of information about presidential candidates that used to be provided by the mainstream media, until 2008 when Obama received an amazing special exception from the traditional practice of disclosure.

CORRECTION: JoshLCT simply misspoke when he said "Mussolini's Italy". JoshLCT meant to say that Huckabee grew up in Arkansas.

What JoshLCT does want to know, is how stupid Mike Huckabee thinks JoshLCT is that he would even consider for a moment that Huckabee "misspoke" in a way that conveniently panders to the birther movement. It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain that Hucakbee wants to get the support of the lunatic fringe in 2012 without being seen as the embodiment of their ideals. The sad thing about these comments are they are taken seriously in the Deep South. For example the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported the story like it was a fact with no correction -
FACT CHECK: Huckabee claims Obama grew up in Kenya - The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee suggested in a radio interview that President Barack Obama's childhood in Kenya shaped his worldview — even though Obama did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20s.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee signs his book, "A Simple Government" on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at Sam's Club in Davenport. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday that he's evaluating the possible financial commitments needed to make another run at the White House.

The potential Republican presidential candidate told New York radio station WOR on Monday that Obama's youth led him to resent the West, which he said explains why, in Huckabee's view, Obama's foreign policy differs so greatly from that of his predecessors.

"One thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, (is) very different than the average American," Huckabee said, pointing to Obama's decision in 2009 to remove a bust of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office.

He failed to note that Obama replaced the Oval Office fixture with a bust of one of his American heroes, President Abraham Lincoln, and moved the Churchill bust to the White House residence.

"The bust of Winston Churchill, a great insult to the British," Huckabee said. "But then if you think about it, his perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather . he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."

Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was detained in a 1952 uprising against British colonial rule in Kenya. Huckabee said childhood stories of the Mau Mau rebellion would lead President Obama to want to remove from the Oval Office the bust of Churchill, who ordered a crackdown against that uprising.

The executive director of Huckabee's political action committee said the former governor misspoke.

"When the governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the president, he wasn't talking about the president's place of birth — the governor believes the president was born in Hawaii," Hogan Gidley said. "The governor would, however, like to know more about where President Obama's liberal policies come from and what else the president plans to do to this country — as do most Americans."

One thing that makes Gov Huckabee excuse that he was talking about Indonesia is the fact that it was the FRENCH not British who ruled Indonesia. Remember the whole Vietnam war where we took over from the FRENCH, it was in Indonesia. I used to think Gov Huckabee was a fairly honest and good if misguided conservative, but now he exposes himself as yet another who will tell any lie, push any set of hates to get what he wants.

The attention this absurb statement is getting him is exactly what he wants to keep himself "media relevant." Want to see Mike's real side? See the YouTube video of his wife bullying an Arkansas state troooper last fall. He's cut from the same cloth, he's just packaged to be a little more palatable to the "average American" he references in his lie about POTUS. Mr Huckabee apparently failed to do serious research as to the President's background in making the error he made on radio. Although, I often disagree with the President on issues and programs, I celebrate his achievement and that of his family through sacrifice and hard work to achieve the Presidency. As the first African American President, I for one commend President Obama's unbelievable accomplishment. As I stated earlier I do differ with him on many issues, yet with pride I respect his office, family, and great achievement. He is our President duly elected and has a fine family. I will challenge him on issues where we both disagree. I will not however denigrate his incredible accompishment, the office or his fine family. Although a Republican with strong convictions I am first an American. If people vote for me they must know that I will never disrespect the Presidential office or its occupant--his is a great personal achievement and should not be denigrated by any vote seeker, in my opinion that is un American

You must be thinking of his visit to Indonesia, where he did grow up and where he did share all of those remembrances. He never travelled to Kenya until he was in his 20s, and last visited there in 2006 when he was a senator.

To know this, all you need to do is read the newspaper... or do a search on google. Either way, it's there.

It would be refreshing if Mr. Huckabee would read a book on British colonialism in Africa because his ignorant facts about the President aside, he obviously believes that the British in Africa were enlightened ones bringing harmony and progress to the dark continent.

And that's the real shame of his ignorance - his very unchristian support of an ugly self-serving system imposed on Africa by the European colonial powers simply because they had the power to do so. His political mentality has never evolved apparently beyond the "white man's burden".

Astute observers in corridors of power around the world and other quarters consider that the so-called "birthers" have probably got hold of the wrong end of the stick, so to speak.

They believe it likely that Barack Obama was indeed born somewhere in Hawaii.

That the real reason for the controversy over the infamous original typewritten long form birth certificate, the most widely discussed item from Obama's hidden paper trail, is actually because this document may never have even existed at all.

There exists a widespread and growing speculation that the current president's biological father was not the late Kenyan Barack Obama "Sr." and that his birth mother was not the late Stanley Ann Dunham.

The working theory being debated maintains that the late "grandfather" Stanley Armour Dunham was the actual father, and the mother was an unidentified black or polynesian female, perhaps from the Honolulu beatnik bar and coffeehouse scene that Dunham was known to frequent with his close friend, the late CPUSA member Frank Marshall Davis.

Stanley Armour Dunham was known as a strong-willed control freak who ruled his family with an iron hand and deeply desired to have a son, which might explain why he named his daughter after himself.

If he did indeed father a boy he may well have given it to his passive obedient daughter Stanley Ann Dunham to raise, and her convenient arranged marriage in name only to the Kenyan served everyone's purpose, giving the infant an ostensible father and facilitating the Kenyan's desire to remain in the United States to continue his studies.

It was quite easy to register a child with the state of Hawaii in 1961 by providing the basic paternity and maternity information without any actual proof, and thus obtaining a state issued certificate of live birth.

This would explain why there has never been any record or document from any source that shows Stanley Ann Dunham ever giving birth anywhere in Hawaii, and why there has never been any hospital or doctor or nurse or administrator that has ever been found or no witness that has ever come forward with any connection at all to birth of the current president.

There are many easily found sources that one may consult to examine the plethora of admittedly circumstantial evidence.

cashill.com is as good as any place to start for those who might have an interest.

The poem "Pop" which was written by the current president when he was 19, and which many interpret as reflecting his realization that "Gramps" was actually his father.

The timeline of events and movements of all of the involved parties, particularly "mother" Stanley Ann Dunham's appearance in Seattle, Washington, to register for university classes supposedly just 15 days after giving birth in Hawaii.

Contemporary witness accounts of numerous impressions of the true nature of the relationships between these people, and photographic comparisons of them.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

Racist birther bigots can't seem to find a great white hope to challenge the elected President, so they try to undo the election with the racist birther bigot lie that the President is an illegal alien and was never born in America.

Racism and bigotry in America has always been dependent on racist lies and racist stereotypes spread by racist bigots. Rupert Murdoch's bird-dog, Mike Huckabee is just another racist birther bigot making up racist lies and throwing red meat to other bloody-jawed bigots.

When the Huckster comes out of his delirium he ought to apologize for miscasting his curiosity in the youthful "foreign" influences on the President's liberal policies. What the Huckster ought to ask is how growing up under the influences of a history of racial slavery, white supremacist attitudes & racial segregation in the Southern Baptist Convention in Arkansas had on the Huckster that shaped his conservative views. For we know one thing for sure about Huckster, the real-life model for the corrupt Baptist minister character played by John Goodman in the film "O Brother, where art thou?": Hucksters with a Southern accent have no shame when it comes to playing the race card to advance their political ambitions.

Come on now, don’t be humble, tell us all here.
McCain was not born in America nor a US territory since he was out of the Canal Zone. FACT!

Bob, did Santa, the Easter Bunny or Babe the Blue Ox translate the interview or was it the aliens that abducted you and had you make love to the vacuum cleaner.

Huckabee was lying, as he lies about creationism and other nonsense he professes to believe to get elected.

Bush and Cheney lied about Iraq and men and women by the thousands died and we blew $ 1 trillion but I guess that is a lie too.

Obama’s grandmother never said he was born in Kenya, but then again, I didn’t ask the tooth fairy, is that your source or was it an engineered voice on youtube or Fox.

Mike lied, but then again, he is a conservative and would sell his soul for votes and did.

Still waiting for the dialect but then again, I have an advantage, a Kenyan friend and professor of Swahili.

What? The whole reasoning that followed the sentence "Obama grew up in Kenya", built on the concept of Kenya and the presumption Obama was influenced by his Kenyan father and grandfather and the British rule in Kenya. That should end it. For all you nut cases out there, the Prime Minister of Kenya was in a TV interview and the reporter said something like... Kenyans must be very proud for someone born in your country to make it to the US Presidency.
He beamed and said YES, we are very proud and are setting up a special place to give him honor. They also constructed a bronz statue of Obama as a lad and when it hit the fan, they moved it in front of an elementary school were few visit.
I saw that interview twice where the president of Kenya said Obama was born in Kenya.
I saw 3 separate interviews with BHO's grandmother in which she said he was born there in a hut and she attended the birth and how proud she was that he has become president.
Finally, when the birthers got smoking, several people born in Hawaii showed pictures of their BIRTH CERTIFICATES. One interview with an employee of the Hawaii records folks said that to be listed as an hawaiin citizen, some people call it in because they are out in tribal areas etc.
So, we can call them and say that BHO was born on such and such a date etc. That is one reason birthers are suspicious.
Another thing. BHO was a mediocre student and then went to Occidental College, then transferred to Columbia or some other prestigious college and then to Harvard. Some want to see the college records because some say he paid part of his tuition by getting Foreign Student Grants.
Every president of the Harvard Review publishes prolifically. There are no records of any written material from BHO. When he graduated Harvard, he set sail for a world tour. For a guy with no income, where did he get the money to do this. I want to do that but can't afford it???
He has a brother in Kenya making less than $15 a month. He got the hounds to stop bothering his aunt who is an illegal in the NE.
What I get mostly from the blogs above is a blind madness in which everyone rages against others who just want to discuss these things. What does that make you?
I have no idea where he was born or if he gave up his citizenship etc. But it does make me more than curious that a President has spent over a $million hiding his past.
Doesn't that just scream at you?
If you were President, why would you seal all documents like this? Where is your reason? I hope he is an authentic USA natural citizen and not a naturalized citizen. If there were any question that most of the anti-Obama rhetoric and birther nonsense is driven by racism, just read the following to dispel all doubt:

"If preacher huck and the party claims obongo has a kenyon background let that be the platform of the party for the next election, after all the south side of chicago is mostly mau maus.

Though, in fact, I wish all the racists who comment around the net would be as blatant as schmidty. Lacking the courage of their heinous convictions, they use coded terminology and veiled language. They are, at heart, cowards.

I just don't see the racist or birther side given the context of the conversation, you could insinuate and make fuss, but try to be fair and seek the truth, not cheap shots, and no what would Huckabee have gained if this was a cheap shot on his part?

What "dancingrabbit" fails to recognize is that even if you throw out all sorts of authoritative-sounding BS is is still BS. Dancingrabbit misrepresents the holding of the Supreme Court case of United States v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649 (1898). Contrary to dancingrabbit's misrepresentation, that case stands for the proposition that, under the Fourteenth Amendment, the citizenship of one's parents is irrelevant to anyone born on U.S. soil. In that case, both parents were Chineese citizens, but Mr. Wong was born in San Francisco. His parents were both subject to the jurisdiction of the United States because they were present here, even if their presence was intended to be temporary. Because he was born here, he was a natural born citizen - just like President Obama.

Now at least we know the identity of Huckabee's "intellectual" inspiration. That would be Dinesh D'Souza of National Review, who last year came out with a book analyzing Obama's "alien" way of thinking, which he traced back to Obama's Kenyan father. Misguided and malevolent though he is, D'Souza at least tries to keep his facts straight, and he never claimed that Obama grew up in Kenya. What is most disturbing about this story, however, is that Huckabee and his advisers think that the American people are gullible enough to accept his explanation that he mistook Kenya for Indonesia. Well, there are some American tea-baggers who actually don't know the difference between Kenya and Indonesia, but for this guy, trying to handicap the political horserace of 2012, this puts Huckabee way in the back, right next to Sarah Palin. Good luck, Huck!

Up until now, I had thought of Huckabee as a sincerely religious man with politcal ambitions. I knew little about his competence, experience, or intelligence.

He "misspeaking," however has changed my opinion completely. The ignorance Mr. Huckabee exhibits in the context of his remarks about President Obama is inexcusable. How could this man, as president, deal with international affairs? He is as ignorant and as partisan as Sarah Palin.

Of course the poorly-disguised malice behind the central attack on President Obama is another matter. To lie outright in order to discredit a potential rival speaks for itself.

Mike Huckabee is not a good person. Allegedly a man of the cloth, I consider him the poster boy for hypocrisy.

He is not fit to hold any public office nor to preach in any house of worship.

He'd never get my vote.

The Mid-Terms gave us lots of republicans like Governor Walker who say one thing and do another. They won big at Mid-Terms because they promised to create jobs and now they are stripping us of our rights, depriving women of preventive health care and ability to decide for themselves medically, while propping up the corporations and their donors with tax cuts. Instead of creating jobs for the Middle Class and the poor, they are stripping the Middle Class of their bargaining power. Reverend Huckabee brings another dimension to this abuse. His ignorance in this interview is deplorable and his lies, unforgiving, especially for someone who should be close to God. I have two sons and their birth certificates are similar to the President's and for the republicans to continue to pretend that the President’s birth certificate is not authentic, confirms that they will do anything to win elections. Mr. Huckabee in this interview did in fact say in so many words that the President is not one of us. What kind of President is Mr. Huckabee going to be when he does not accept our President as one of us? Mr. Huckabee is very untrustworthy. A week ago, he told ABC interviewer, Terry Moran when asked about the “birther” issue, "I think that’s ridiculous," he said. "There’s a lot of things we need to be talking regarding Barack Obama. But, you know, I find that completely out of the question." Mr. Huckabee also dismissed the “birther” issue as “nonsense” when Mr. George Stephanopoulos brought it up in his interview with him. Essentially, Mr. Huckabee is not honorable since he is very willing to sell his soul to win an election. What a shame!

Apart from Huckabee's claim about Obama being raised in Kenya being an outright lie, his spokesman's attempt at damage control further made team Huckabee look more foolish. The governor alluded to "their (Kenyans') view of the Mau Mau Revolution in Kenya is very different than ours..." and not any revolutionary movement in Indonesia. Do these people think at all?

Then Huckabee had said:

"...his view (Obama's) of the Brits, for example, [is] very different than the average American."

That again pointed to an utter lack of knowledge about the basic American history. What would any American today call the British that colonized the people of continental America before Independence? Why was the War of Independence faught? Who were behind the War of 1812? Why do we still denigrade the British troops of that era as "Red Coats." The perception of any American with any sense of history is not diametrically oppossed to any other national or descendant of anybody who lived under British colonialism (for example Barack Obama), be it in Kenya, India, Nigeria or Ghana. The only difference is that those experiences happened and ended at different times. But it was not a pleasant experience for the Americans of those days. Neither was it palatable for those who experienced British imperialism and colonialism in Asia and Africa.

For Huckabee to continue to regurgitate a writing of an intellectually bankrupt author of Indian ancestry and which has already been discredited among sensible people is not only naive but devoid of any iota of knowledge at all.

This is really about name-calling pure and simple. Why not just call him the N-word and be done with it. That’s what this is really about. These folks who persist in this “birther” crap are stooping to the lowest denominator of the racist extremes of the Republican Party. No one who has been in earshot of a TV forecast or a newspaper in the past two years can really BELIEVE this nonsense. There is an old adage:" if you lay down with dogs, you come up with fleas". These flea-bitten, name-callers are painting themselves into a far corner that eventually alienates them from the mainstream voters. It takes broad mainstream support to win a national election. For that reason, they may be a nuisance but hardly a threat. Mike Huckabee may be a flunky for FOX News, but he is not our next President.

Huckabee was more right then he thinks. Obama was not raised with American fundamentals. Obama has said many times that he's going to change our fundamentals. We were raised with American fundamentals just like Obama was raised with Indonesia fundamentals, which are Muslim fundamentals. Who cares if Obama was raised in Kenya or Indonesia. If Obama had American fundamentals he wouldn't be trying so hard to change our fundamentals would he. Does anyone want to guess what fundamentals Obama wants to change us to seeing how he was raised in Indonesia in Muslim fundamentals.

What is it about Republican politicians that compels them to kowtow to the lunatic right by propagating patently untrue stories.

Heck, did you notice the squirmypoo that the Huckapoo spokesman did to 'unsay' the lie. If Huckapoo meant to say Indonesia instead of Kenya, then I guess he meant to say anti-Dutch instead of anti-English.

During the last election cycle, there were times that Huckabee had some moderate things to say. But I suppose since he might be seriously thinking about running for the Rasputlican party nomination, he knows he needs to wash out any of those moderate inklings with the soap of the far right wing lye factory.

The Newster has done that as well -- in the past his smarts made him say some intelligent things amidst all the posturing. These days, in order to position himself as a more right wingnut than thou candidate, he has had to spew stupid to play to the primary school only educated crowd that represent all that the Republicans can be these days.

My youngest son was born in Aurora, Colorado where both my husband and I were stationed. We also were assigned to Germany for two tours, one when my son was 2-1/2. He went to a German kindergarten, both our boys attended an American school in Germany. They have, like any other kids who have been raised in a foreign country for any amount of time, neither a good understanding of that country based on their little kid experiences, nor do they care about what happens in Germany- They're 30 and 35 now. But the experience my sons had in Germany broadened their thinking and their bold ability to maintain in any environment. If Huckabee studied a wee bit of history, perhaps just 5 minutes, he would know the history of Indonesia, a former Dutch Colony until the Japanese invaded in 1942.

Perhaps we should send Huckabee to Holland where he'll still find popular Indonesian-themed restaurants featuring Rijsttafel (rice table) as a reminder of their colonial past.

But what's most interesting is that the period Obama lived there as a child was during Suharto's rule.

What everyone fails to understand peregrine Obama does not qualify to be a citizen even if he was born in Hawaii.

He does not meet the subject to jurisdiction standards in the 14th Amendment. Nor does the peregrine President meet the citizenship standards found in the Supreme Court case Wong Kim Ark.

Peregrine Obama had an alien father who had no intention to remain in the United States and become a citizen. He was a transient student.

The Supreme Court told us in 1973 a President must not only be a citizen he must be a natural born Citizen.

The Supreme Court has told us a natural born citizen is born to citizen parents. The Court has never told us a NBC is born to an alien and a citizen.

Peregrine Obama as a President violates the Law of Nations, chapter 19, section 212: a natural born citizen is born to citizen parents. A country should desire this. A country cannot perpetuate itself unless its citizens are born from citizens.

The Supreme Court told us in 1974 the Law of Nations has been a part of our laws for 200 years.

Thomas Jefferson wrote we must refer to the Law of Nations in all matters.

In all matters. This includes natural born citizenship.

George Washington wrote: "prosecute all crimes against the Law of Nations".

It is time the news media stop covering for this peregrine in the White House.

If Huckabee should be disqualified on his Kenya comment, Obama should be disqualified on his 57 States comment. The last time a checked there were 50 States in America.

People know who Huckabee is, but nobody knows with certainty who Obama is, and Obama without a doubt wants to hide rather than reveal his past childhood and college education to the news media.

For the news media never will have attempted to interview any of Obama's college classmates or demand to see Obama's college transcripts.

How does anyone become a U.S. citizen not knowing there are 50 states in the United States?

I never agreed with most of Huckabee's political positions, but I did view him as an honest and honorable guy. Until now.

Clearly this is not just a slip of the tongue. If the Huckster meant to say "Indonesia," why would he also refer to the Kenyan revolution? By name, no less. For that matter, why would an Indonesian background foment any anger towards the Brits? Indonesia was never under British rule.

Also, given that it is public knowledge that Obama's father ditched when he was 3 years old, there is no credibility to the notion that he would have grown up hearing "that the British were a bunch of imperialists." From who? The never-a-British-colony Indonesians? Or perhaps from the rampant anti-British Hawaiian population? Or maybe from his Kansas-bred mom. Still a lot of hard feelings over the Colonial days in Kansas, I guess.

No, Huckabee was clearly trying to play the Kenya Card, pandering to the wingnut birthers. He stooped low and he got caught. I'd expect this kind of tripe from Newt or Palin. Now I know Huckles is just like the others. Shame, shame!

I am, basically, a center-right independent in my politics. I am exactly the type of voter without whom the Republicans have no chance of winning an election.

I truly believe that our Republic exists to guarantee our rights and as much individual liberty as possible. I am, of course, opposed to left-wing attempts to use the power of the state to tell me what I can eat or what I can say. I am EQUALLY opposed to those who would use the power of the state to force their religion upon us, to use public funds for prostelyzation, presume to tell us whom we can love and so on and for exactly the same reason: the government simply has no business so interfering in the citizen's personal life and decisions. I will not therefore vote for Palin, Huckabee, Gingrich or any other politician who can't seem to separate their politics from their religion.

And before some poster or another accuses me of being a 'liberal in disguise' because they don't like what I am saying, please know that I've been posting here for years, that everything I've ever written is availible in my profile, so please check it before you question my own assessment of my own politics.

So, again, take it for what it is worth, Republicans: don't nominate a religious rightist if you want any chance of attracting people like myself with whom you will never win and never have.

First of all, anyone paying attention should have known President Obama did not grow up in Kenya. Matter of fact, the whole point of his best-selling book was that he had few actual ties to his father or Kenya at all.

I _do_ agree that spending so much time in Indonesia has affected the President's world view. But if you are talking "where his liberal policies come from", a majority of Americans voted for him, and the vast majority of them grew up in the US. Martin O'Malley is selling Maryland down the river to illegals, but to my knowledge, he grew up in Takoma Park (hey -- that explains it!).

On the whole, Americans like their Presidents to be knowledgeable. Or at least, not dopes. So that seems to exclude Mr. Huckabee.

Who are US Natural Born Citizens?

Very briefly, “US Citizenship” can be acquired through naturalization, or by birth; and is conferred by location (jus soli), or by blood (jus sangunis) of one US Citizen parent. But US Natural-Born Citizenship is acquired by both jus soli and by jus sanguinis of both US Citizen parents.

The US Congress has not defined US Natural-born Citizen in the US Codes, but a letter to George Washington and some Supreme Court cases help:

John Jay letter to George Washington, 25 July 1787
“Permit me to hint whether it would not be wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of foreigners into the administration of our national government; and to declare expressly that the command in chief of the American army shall not be given to, nor devolve on any but a natural born citizen.”

In United States v. Rhodes (1866), Mr. Justice Swayne, sitting in the Circuit Court, said:
"all persons born in the allegiance of the United States are natural-born citizens.” [This would rule out dual-citizens from being natural-born citizens.]

Perkins v. Elg, 307 U.S. 325 (1939)
“The court below, properly … declared Miss Elg 'to be a natural born citizen of the United States”

John Bingham in the 37th Congress 2nd Session House of Representatives 1862
"All persons born within the Republic, OF PARENTS OWING ALLEGIANCE TO NO OTHER SOVEREIGNTY, ARE NATURAL BORN CITIZENS."

Show, exactly, where the Constitution bears out your blithering assertions, bonus points for focusing on where, exactly, the Constitution requires both parents to be US citizens for a child to also be considered a US citizen.

Further, why would Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Sarah Palin and the US Supreme Court all give Obama a free pass during the Democratic primaries and then the general election, and the US Supreme Court afterwards, if he wasn't a US citizen?

Even better, teabagging US Senators like Jim DeMint didn't object when the Senate certified the election results, so why didn't ANY Republican Senator complain at that time, if Obama really isn't a US citizen?

And why have none of the Congressional Republicans signed on to legal challenges regarding Obama's citizenship, sure seems like a slap in the face of the teabaggers who helped get them elected.

Obama's a US citizen, he's President, and there's nothing the blathering Bizarroworld birthers can do to change that reality, not a thing.

Stanley Ann Dunham, Obama’s mother, was born on November 29, 1942. In 1959, Barack Obama, Sr, his father, was awarded a scholarship from an American program offering Western educational opportunities. At the age of 23 Barack Obama Sr. leaves behind his pregnant Kenyan wife Kezia and their baby son and arrives in the United States to study math and economics at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. Near the last week of October 1960 to first weeks of November 1960, the conception of Barack Obama Jr. occurred. At the time of their wedding in February 1961, Ann Dunham is already three months pregnant with Barack Obama, Jr., and she doesn’t know Barack Obama Sr. has a wife and children in Kenya. The couple settles in Honolulu. Newlyweds Barack Sr. and Ann, being students had a Summer Break from school and didn’t need to be back on campus until September. They had motive to visit his parents in Kenya. Did they go to Kenya and get stuck until Obama was born? On November 29, 1961 Ann Obama turned 19. Is it possible Barack Hussein Obama II, was born in Kenya, and the birth was later recorded in Honolulu? Yes.

In 1961, Barack Obama Sr., was in the US on a non-immigrant student visa, and he had a home (permanent residence) in Kenya British Protectorate which "he had no intention of abandoning."

Barack Hussein Obama II, was born on August 4, 1961.
Assuming he was born in Hawaii, then he was born in the US jus soli, subject to the 14th Amendment, and he was also born to a British citizen father and subject to the British Nationality Act 1948, so he is a first-generation jus sanguinis UK citizen. Since Barack Hussein Obama II, was born a first-generation UK citizen, not a naturalized UKC, living in the US, he remained a British citizen in the eyes of the British government, until Kenya Independence on December 12, 1963. On December 12, 1963, with Kenya Independence, Barack Obama Sr. and Barack Hussein Obama II lost UK Citizenship, and converted to Kenya nationality. Barack Hussein Obama II, became a dual USA/Kenya Citizen. On March 6, 1964, his parent's divorce granted Barack Obama Sr. "reasonable visitation, with child support TBD", thus by connections Barack Hussein Obama II, remained a dual USA/Kenya Citizen.

Barack Hussein Obama II, is not a US natural-born Citizen.

Posted by: mafox1 | March 1, 2011 6:06 PM | Report abuse

RGee1 what is different today is that in spite of economic or social challenges, Liberals refuse to take responsibility. Obama had the entire government for two years and could not lead! Instead we get a Pelosi driven socialistic health-care program that is both costly and unwanted - except by those entitlement driven who live off the taxpayers.

The mid-terms were a reflection of an angry electorate fed up with the "free lunch" crowd spending away our children and grandchildren's future!

Still ignoring the electorate, Obama looks to succeed with division - specifically race and class warfare. The socialistic support for Union Thugs is not support of the middle class, that has no need of Unions, it is rather support of Union Thug Leadership that has raped their members of dues to back Obama's re-election.

The mid-terms spoke loud and clear - STOP SPENDING, repeal Obamacare, and stimulate private sector job growth. All of which Liberals continue to ignore as they play their blame game.

November 2012 can't come soon enough!

Mike Huckabee has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is unqualified to be President. The American people will not allow a racist bigot like him into the White House.

The most disturbing thing here is that someone who is asking to be taken seriously on the National stage is willing to say things that he either has no idea as to the truth or accouracy or were just made up on the spot. Not only were the statements about Kenya completely wrong but the comments about the President's attitudes toward the British are equally as irresponsible and bizarre. If President Obama made a public statement that Mike H grew up in Turkey and accordingly had a bad view of British due to Gallipoli, people would suggest that the President was certifiable -- why is this any different?

This is the result of a 'faith-based' world that has been imposed on America since Raygun. Facts don't matter. Proof isn't need. Data is irrelevant. What you believe is all that counts. Birthers believe that Obama isn't a valid president so, in their minds he never will be. Evangelicals believe in the literal Bible, and so it is Truth. Never mind scientific reality, Evolution isn't real, Global warming isn't real. Obama grew up in Kenya (even though he didn't visit until he was in hi 20's) is just another delusion they cling to.

No wonder America is going down the tubes. Believe it!

Look Obama is doing a great job and considering the destruction Bush and the GOP wrought during their decades of reign starting with Nixon no one could have done any better and Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin would have just been more of the same.

The real problem with the haters is the fact that Obama is successful in many things from saving the economy as the Republicans left to us with huge WAR and TAX BREAK deficits.

Huckabee is a huckster obviously. How does he feel about union busting? How would he create jobs? How would he take care of our veterans? How would he take care of big business? Will the Koch Brothers fund his campaign? There's lots of questions to be answered. Who would his VP be? Palin or Newt Gingrich? Maybe Karl Rove? That's like letting the foxes (pun intended) into the White I mean hen house.

Disappointing because his comments, even the accurate quotes, are shabby. We had hoped that Huckabee would elevate the presidential debate by talking issues rather than personalizing the argument. The "Kenya" "Mau Mau" statements must have had their origin in some Rove-like advice to "get tough", "take the gloves off!" -- not what we would have expected from someone whose graciousness of soul has been so appealing.

He was not the "head" of the HLR, he was the editor. Do you have any idea what that means? It means you should EASILY be able to find articles with his byline. It means that he would have the prestigious honor of adding his commentary to the most controversial topics of the time.

You don't find these because his, I believed into an honorary roll, not a functional roll. I believe, once the enlightened souls at Harvard found out what a functional moron he was, all access to actually serving as editor was denied.

Of course we can pretend otherwise but in actuality, there is no other plausible explanation when you can find hundreds of articles from virtually every other HLR editor since the publication began.

Harvards problems was this........Besides just penning his thoughts on very controversial topics(Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking on campus for example), as editor, he undoubtedly would have also been called upon to defend his position in numerous extemporaneous formats. You would have to be someone who is pretty stupid or extremely easy to impress if you think he has such a capability or capacity.

We are spending trillions of dollars every year and nobody knows what we are doing. The executive branch doesn't know. The congressional branch doesn't know. Nobody knows," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla.

The study found 33 areas with "overlap and fragmentation" in the federal government. Among them, it found:

-- Fifty-six programs across 20 agencies dealing with financial literacy.

-- More than 2,100 data centers -- up from 432 a little more than a decade ago -- across 24 federal agencies. GAO estimated the government could save up to $200 billion over the next decade by consolidating them.

-- Twenty programs across seven agencies dealing with homelessness. The report found $2.9 billion spent on the programs in 2009. "Congress is often to blame" for fragmentation, GAO wrote in this section, explaining that the duplicative programs in multiple agencies cause access problems for potential participants.

-- Eighty-two "distinct" teacher-quality programs across 10 agencies. Many of them have "duplicate sub-goals," GAO said. Nine of them address teacher quality in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

-- Fifteen agencies administering 30 food-related laws. "Some of the oversight doesn't make any sense," the report stated bluntly.

Ok, so, you do understand that a great deal of the overlap is caused by the Congress itself, many of whose members refuse to let departments merge because it would mean loss of clout to their committees. Presidents of both parties have tried to merge departments, and the Congress refuses to go along in most cases.

I heard Huckabee speak at a Baptist Christian retreat two years ago and was really impressed with his message. I have always said that good people run in political elections and some of them are elected but they change drastically. This is a good example of that. I wonder now if this is the same man. It is not for me to judge him, that will come at a time unknown. But I wonder if the man was the same of it politics has changed him that much. I was so impressed with the man two years ago but am very disappointed with what he has become.

I was initially tempted to dismiss this as simply a slip of the tongue, until I saw that Huckabee had referred to the Mau Mau Uprising in one of the references to Obama supposedly being raised in Kenya.

Nope, it's not "an innocent mistake." This was deliberate. Sleazy! I've completely lost respect for Huckabee. I would never have voted for him, based on his political positions, but I did at least think that he was a decent guy. Now I wouldn't even say that.

This is part of a concerted and continuous GOP campaign to convince the American people that the President is "not one of us." Consider that the fundamentalist Christian tradition that began with Darby in the 19th century makes a clear delineation between the saved and the damned, us and them. This Manichean view of the world was reflected in the politics of Pat Robertson to an earlier generation and now in the politics of Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin, and Mike Huckabee.

Aside from the ignorant claim about Obama, please take note of Huckabee's equally ignorant scoffing at Britain's imperialism in Kenya. The British opened up their Kenyan archives a few years ago and historians have since then documented British torture of Kenyans, not to mention British economic imperialism. Well, perhaps Huckabee knows that but thinks it is acceptable, given U.S. imperialism (e.g. taking Native American homelands, half of Mexico, etc. not to mention enslavement of Africans brought here as prisoners - the small percentage that survived the tortuous journey). Presumably Huckabee would similarly disqualify from office the descendant of slaves, a Hispanic U.S. citizen, or a Native American with a "different" view of his mythical history.

As far as I am concerned, the President was born in Hawaii, visited Kenya for the first time before he entered Harvard, is a Christian. For me, the subject is closed. Uh, does Huckabee not remember that the "British were a bunch of imperialists" who persecuted our forefathers and that they fought the "British imperialists" for freedom and independence from Britain during the years 1775 - 1783 just as the peoples of Kenya did during the years 1948 - 1963?

Does Huckabee believe the struggle for freedom and independence is just and honorable for Europeans but not for Africans?

In the 1920s, Hope, Arkansas was known as the lynching capital of Arkansas. Huckabee was born and raised in Hope and his parents and grandparents lived in Hope during its time as the lynching capital of Arkansas.

Does Huckabee view Black Americans "very differently" than the rest of us because his parents and grandparents were traumatized by the spectacle and/or participation of lynchings their friends and neighbors were forced to carry out against a people who had the audacity to struggle for freedom and justice?

Huckabee is a dangerous fool!

Seems Like President Obama has a lot in common then - with the Founding Fathers of the United States who also liberated themselves from the Imperial British! Ha! Ha! Ha! Why is it that Southern Conservatives can never get it quite right in their heads? Time after time - this groups continues to demonstrate a shallow understanding of history, reason, and good manners

Well, I just quickly read all of the above comments, which appear to concur with my own - that Huckabee is wrong. WHat right does the man have to even consider being a presidential candidate when he cannot even speak the truth and alludes to what is a blatant lie? Was he half asleep when he said that? Perhaps if he ever gets to the point of debating Obama, he will be just as sleepy and stupid. Huckabee, the other Republicans, orange-faced John Boehner, the TeaPartiers, The NEWT, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman and all of the rest of these moronic idiots - why don't they simply shut their stupid mouths and stop badmouthing Obama. He is a brilliant man - they are all ignorami!! I am so tired of hearing them opening their mouths and inserting their feet. It is becoming outrageous to hear people of this ilk - and, oh lest I forget - fear mongers Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh - publicly pronounce outright lies, and then have half of the country believe what these morons are telling them.

Posted by: bevschneider | March 1, 2011 4:56 PM | Report abuse

Also, can we just say "Huckabee lied" instead of this mealy-mouthed "claimed inaccurately" bullcrap? He lied. He knows full well that Obama is a native-born US citizen who never grew up in Kenya, and he lied. Plain and simple. "Got his facts wrong," no, he lied.

Stupid is as stupid does. When you are trying to attract a 35-40% racist audience this is what you say. Real men get their facts straight and do not ( like Fox) knowingly put out the wrong information. He did this on purpose as Fox put up wrong poll numbers. Hopefully only the terminally dumb do not know our president's life story and his history of being raised in Hawaii by his grand parents.

He reached a new low today for a party that is grabbing at any straw to push FEAR their biggest card since the 50s. Fear of anyone or any group that does not think like you look like you or smell like you.

Obama is an enigma. No one REALLY knows much about the guy or where he was born or raised.

It is an embarrassment that the electorate knows so little about a President personally - about the man or his character. Worse, that what we do know about his policies and programs, reveal him to be just another empty headed socialist.

At least they seem to have given up on the teleprompter deal- I guess they finally noticed that just about all public speakers use them. Come on, guys, come up with something new! Idiots. Obama said "57 states" because he had to compete in 57 state primaries and caucuses, including Puerto Rico and the Marianas.

An easy mistake to make, unless you want to "prove" Obama, the elected President of the Harvard Law Review and a Professor of Constitutional Law at the prestigious Law School of the U of Chicago, is sooo stoopid he doesn't even know how many states there are in the Union.

Republicans must have very low self-esteem and very little confidence in the strength of American ways of thinking, since so many of them believe that a couple of years in an Indonesian school and a Kenyan father he almost never saw had a stronger influence on president Obama than being raised by his mother and his grandparents from Kansas.

Mentally, President Obama is a white man who spent a few years of his childhood abroad. He had to learn to "be black", and he has a great wife who helped him bridge the gap. So you have black AND white in the White House, and they are bright people too – what could be better for America?

Posted by: asoders22 | March 1, 2011 4:28 PM | Report abuse

What lunacy. That's it for Huck in my opinion. Any serious person, black or white, who has studied British colonialism in Kenya knows that the British over-reaction to conditions there in the fifties (partly to satisfy land grabs that would help save the colony) resulted in huge numbers of innocent Kenyans being slapped into concentration camps and killed; some estimates put the numbers of deaths well over 50k. In any case, Huck is playing on old racial stereotypes and should be roundly condemned for both this distortion and stupidly feeding red meat to the loonies in his party. Imagine this guy near the red button....

"Social justice" is an entirely arbitrary concept that could only exist in the warped brains of bien-pensant compulsive meddlers. The correct response is "Whose social justice?" An NAACP activist's definition of "social justice" might well differ from that of a KKK member; an eco-campaigner's view of "social justice" will surely be different from that of someone from the Competitive Enterprise Institute. It is entirely typical of the sublime arrogance and blinkered bigotry of liberals that they imagine the irversion of "social justice" is the correct one. This, in itself, is more than reason enough to show why liberals, like Obama, should never be allowed anywhere near State office...

I'll take my "justice" straight up, without any prefixes, as established in a rule of law based on Christian principles in a democratic state.

Sorry to disappoint you, Nobama (and your fellow haters and conspiracy theorists), but the "57 state" slip WAS widely reported in the W. Post and other mainstream media. Of course, the main reason it was news is because it was so uncharacteristic of Pres. Obama's speech.

By the way, it says a lot that the president's critics have to reach that far back to find such gaffes. Desperate, much?

The "honest mistake" claim that is forthcoming from the Huckabee camp is going to be tough to believe since he wasn't making the Kenyan claim as a passing comment. It was in the context of how that fictional upbringing altered his foreign policy views. You can't make this comment in the context of the discussion they were having and have it be a slip of the tongue.

I think an earlier poster was close to the mark when he/she said that it was a designed "mistake" to elicit a specific response from people who are likely to vote for him in the primaries or tune into his TV show.

It probably worked.
