Rep. Peter King defends hearings on radical Islam: 'Let people watch the hearing and decide then'

By Emi Kolawole

In an appearance on CNN's State of the Union" Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, defended his plan to hold hearings on radical Islam next week. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), a practicing Muslim who plans to testify at the hearings, also joined King.

Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, said he agreed with holding the hearings, but that the scope was too narrow. "It's absolutely the right thing to do for the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee to investigate radicalization. But to say we're going to investigate a -- a religious minority, and a particular one, I think is the wrong course of action to take," he said.

King defended against the charge, saying that other, smaller groups did not pose as grave a threat. "Eric Holder is not saying he's staying awake at night because of what's coming from anti-abortion demonstrators or coming from environmental extremists or from Neo-Nazis. It's the radicalization right now in the Muslim community," King said.

Asked why he would participate in the hearings Ellison said, "I believe in engaging the process. I think you've got to be involved in the conversation; you've got to offer an alternative view. And I do plan on saying that I challenge the basic premise of the hearings -- that I do agree that we should deal with radicalization and violent radicalization, but that singling out one community is the wrong thing to do."

"We're talking about a radicalization in this country which is linked to an overseas enemy. This is al Qaeda -- internationally is attempting to recruit within the United States," King said, when asked why he was not holding hearings on the Tucson shootings in January, which left his colleague Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) with a bullet wound to the head. "It's an international movement with elements here in the United States, and to me, that's a real distinction," he said.

"I am starting off with a number of hypotheses and theses that I believe in," King said. Asked what he hoped to learn from the hearings and why they were not to be seen as the government going after Muslims in the United States, King answered, "Let people watch the hearing and decide then."

"We need to be careful about how we use the instrumentality of the government in investigative hearings," Ellison said. "I think that it does make sense to talk with people in the Muslim community about how we can meet the challenge of public security."

Asked if the Muslim community had been helpful in countering radicalized Muslims, Ellison was firm: "The stats say 'yes.'" He went on to say the Muslim community should not be frightened, but empowered. But King's outlook was not as positive, "I'm aware of a number of cases in New York where the community has not been cooperative," King said, adding that law enforcement did not always "get the level of cooperation that they need."

On the subject of the budget and proposed cuts to Homeland Security put forth by his own party, King was openly critical. "Let me shock Keith by saying that I think that a number of the cuts Republicans have made in the continuing resolution are wrong. " King said, referring specifically to cuts to transit and port security.

To All Islamophobic people/ People that hate islam:

Realize this. All the religions have practically the same beliefs and messages.. Read the Quran, Torah and Bible. You will notice the messages are similar. Islam is a religion of peace which gets abused by the non-followers/radical people. They don't give a bull about what is written in text about peace. Reading the Quran and saying the religion is very dangerous is not enough. GO sit in a mosque and go meet the imams. You will see something then. You will then realize the truth. Media is meant to scare you. You do not have to convert to Islam to research Islam. There are many websites on the internet that are contained with a lot of false information on Islam/any other religion. I recommend stepping inside a mosque and talk to people nicely. I have personally talked with priests and Rabbi's about Judaism and Christianity. Even tho i am Muslim. I chose not to use the internet. Since it may contain many false facts. These dumb Radical groups are just like Gangsters in a Ghetto. Similarities. They Carry Guns, They want to take over and what else.. Don't forget the drugs. So case in point. You can look at the Mexican Drug War and that's a serious problem. How come there is no news on the amount of people that die there from gang and police clashes?. So please take the initiative of learning another religion by talking to the people who are in it and the religious leaders. Leave the internet behind. One more thing. You don't have to believe in the religion of Islam. Islam or any religion is by choice. It's your choice to believe in it. No one will force you to become Muslim.

Mr. King can protest his innocence of "witch hinting" all he wants. He has a history of supporting terrorist groups himself. He has always been a defender and supporter of the IRA. He raised millions of dollars in support of its paramilitary attcks in Ireland and helped them secure both arms and monies from within the United States.

This beautiful world is getting destroyed by this young religion islam .Today we have a billions converts who have lost their roots and ,new religions teaching have made them hate others and their own culture. Look at pakistan Punjabi muslim hates the old culture now they have no love for music and dance and respect for temples. Jihad is way of life in islam and this is nothing but disruction. Creation takes time. I see no museams no great libaray no great ideas coming from islam only how to commit jihad.

King supported the IRA (Irish Republican Army) who were considered terrorists by some of the Northern Irish and the British.
Some Irish-Americans even funded their cause.
Now he's going to run the hearings about Muslim terrorists? I'm against all terrorists but King is a hypocrite.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

One can easily see the missing piece that, in and of itself, justifies these hearings.

Here we go. Were there American muslims protesting like this AFTER RADICAL muslims killed Americans? No, there wasn't.

Combine these two data and add in an IQ of at least 50, & you know everything you need to.

Please don't confuse the mindless butchery
in Oklahoma City, Waco, or Phoenix with the
jihadic genocide Muslims have unleashed
upon the world: Those murderers Oklahoma
City, Waco, Phoenix, etc., were mentally
damaged persons in some way or other, and
had no purpose or reason for their crimes
outside their demented skulls. Those insane
murders advanced no cause, and had no
reason for taking place other than some mental
aberration in the minds of the sick, sick, sick
perpetrators. (Which isn't always acknowledged
by the law.)

The ongoing butchery that Islam promotes, and
has been promoting in the world since before
the death of Mohammed in the year 615 AD, on
the other hand, is part of a neverending jihad
determined either to turn the world into Muslims
or butcher those who refuse to become Muslims.

http://islamisbad.com

It makes no sense to look into the reasons for
Oklahoma City, Waco, or Phoenix outside of a
purely psychological interest. On the other hand,
it makes perfect sense to look into the ongoing
Islamic world-wide jihad against non-Muslims
in the interest of possibly saving either our
culture and civilization, or our very lives.

If King were holding hearings on the dangers
of National Socialism (Nazism) I am sure most
Nazis would want to short-circuit them before
they even got started: Nazis knows full well
that nothing good for them could possibly come
out of any objective focus on Nazism.

And in the same manner Muslims know full well
that there is about as much chance of anything
coming out of any objective focus on Islam that
will make them look good as there is about any
objective focus on Nazism making Hitler come
out looking like the Prophet of Good (because,
let's face it: objectively, there is about as much
good in Islam as there is in National Socialism).

Islam, like the Nazism most 1930s imams embraced
as a kindred philosophy, is all about world conquest
and the complete domination of the human race.

SIRS: http://islamisbad.com

The ONLY place that spouts the good of National
Socialism is a NAZI propaganda outlet, just as
the ONLY place that spouts anything good about
Islam is a Muslim propaganda outlet (and their
amazingly suicidal Western enablers). And the
Muslims who are protesting King's hearings know
this perfectly well.

thomasmc1957 ... R U playing with a full deck?

The real truth about the KKK is simply that it was founded by Southern Democrats as their enforcement arm - especially used against blacks (actually Negroes back then) and Jews, and anyone who wasn't a White Christian.

Senator Robert Byrd disclosed that in order for him to get elected as a Democrat, he had to join the KKK in the 1940's ... Byrd actually founded his own chapter and recruited over 100 fellow Democrats to join his chapter.

rgspol .. pardon me, but there are no other words to describe your post - idiotic.

The World, including the USA, has a terrorist problem...99.99% of whom are people who assert their Islamic faith.

If you and some other fools want to hide your mushy head(s) in the sand, by all means do it - but keep the rest of your body out of the way or some crazed terrorist is going to surround it with a bomb of some sort, and you will be vaporized along with some innocent persons.

And the chances are 99.99% that the perp will be yelling "allahu akbar" as he runs away.

I looked it up ... it is Arabic, not a Yiddish or Latin phrase ... it is an Islamic exclamation called the Takbir in Arabic which means "Allah is the Greatest".

And we know that Allah is Arabic for God. This phrase is recited by Muslims in many different situations. For example, when they are very happy, to express approval, to praise a speaker, or as a battle cry, during times of extreme stress. In the Islamic world, instead of applause, often someone will shout takbir and the crowd will respond "Allahu Akbar" in chorus.

see: Wikipedia as one source.

Of course, if Allah really existed he/she would be outraged by the constant reference to him/her every time a Muslim commits an act of terror. Is this not so?

I've met Peter King, and I know his constituency. He's an arch-conservative Roman Catholic, who advances RCC interests in Congress. He shills for the Vatican. All things considered, he'd be happier if the entire world was Catholic, but that, in and of itself, does not distinguish him from his Co-Religionists.

I don't like what this man stands for. However, one thing I can categorically state is this: He is not a bigot.

I believe he honestly thinks he is doing the right thing.

The radical attacks of perhaps 20% of the Globe's muslim population MIRROR the DEEPLY HELD BELIEFS of the ENTIRETY of the islamic population on Earth.

These CULTISTS ALL stridently want to live in an islamic 'heaven-on-earth' and the radicals are helping them get there by BLEEDING the Western governments dry in foreign wars.

Of course, there are many FALLEN-AWAY MUSLIMS who have GROWN UP and now see the ERRORS of their elder's folly.

These ENLIGHTENED A-RABS are MANY in number but FEW in percentages compared to the totality of the CULT OF ISLAM.

At prayer-time in RIYADH they can be seen jumping into their cars for JOY RIDES instead, laughing at the Wahabbis who have only their staffs to wave in anger. LOL

King is so bigoted for singling out islam. Just because they are the only religion responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans in the past 10 years does not mean they all explode. The fact that they are responsible for more terrorist attacks and incidents in the west than all other psychos combined is easily explained by the crusades. However, I am still puzzled why muslims blow up other muslims on a daily basis in islamiland. Putting terrorism aside, I think the US needs a bunch of religious fundamentalists who threaten cartoonists with death and whip out rugs to pray 5 times a day. The bible bangers are not enough. In Moscow, France, and other European countries the muslims clog the streets with their rug praying and block traffic. I can't wait.

Thank heavens for Rep. Ellison. Way, way back in 1919-21, there were hearings held on Bolshevik propaganda that were begun as maneuvers to blame Jews. Fortunately, most of the representatives and senators were wise, such that the anti-Jewish witnesses were appropriately countered. The same thing will likely happen here if Mr. King starts inviting folks who want to blame our Muslim friends in general for the acts of a few. This is a very badly titled committee.

King hates Muslims, or is cashing in on others' hatred of Muslims, but King has no problem at all with terrorism. He's a known fan.

King supported the IRA when they - like al Qaeda - used bombs to deliberately kill innocent civilians going about their everyday lives.

When the IRA put a bomb - wrapped in nails for shrapnel - in a garbage bin outside my local McDonalds on Camden High Street, London, King had no problem with it at all. Even though thousands of kids walk down that street every day.

If it had killed me, King would have thought me a completely legitimate victim, just because of things other British people did in Ireland before I was even born.

I'd be curious to see King's expression if part of his family was blown up by a native American organisation seeking to recover their ancestral lands and avenge the White Man's crimes in the US.

He'd sing a different tune then, to be sure.

Hypocrisy seems to be the only solid principle of American conservatives.

What the Weasel DIDN'T SAY was that Fred HAD TO QUIT the show since THEY, WMAL banned Grandy's wife, 'Mrs. Fred', from the show and Fred couldn't be expected to SUSTAIN THE INSULT to her, which WAS over her STRIDENT ANTI-ISLAMIC BELIEFS even GREATER and more INTELLIGENT and INFORMED (via National Security Briefings related to her own employment) than those held by her husband.

Okay, who's going to lead a hearing on the dangers posed by Christian fundamentalism?

Chrisitan fundamentalism endangers 1) providing scientific education, 2) combating the public health threat of sexually-transmitted disease and unwanted pregnancies, 3) taking steps against global warming, 4) reining-in the most extreme elements of Israeli society who block a peace with their Arab neighbors, 5) crime reduction efforts which seek government programs to rehabilitate and reeducate convicts, parolees and substance abusers, and the list goes on and on. And that's just on substantive public policy issues, not socially divisive issues like abortion or gay rights. All in all, these people have become a menace to a civilized society.

Contrast this to Muslims, who are by and large peaceful citizens who mind their own business except for a few violent extremists.

So, I'm waiting, who's going to be the first to hold hearings on Christian fundamentalism?

Eliminate all conservative Christians. Only the elimination of all conservative Christians will allow all Americans to be free and the world to no longer have to live in fear of the U.S.A.'s imperialist, terrorist holy war. The conservative ideology has never helped mankind in any way, it has not only never helped mankind in anyway, it has oppressed, murdered, raped and killed all those in it's way to gain power. History shows us this. Fact shows us this. James Madison, the "Father of the U.S. Constitution", along with many founders of this country, regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliations, knew keeping politics and religion separate not only preserves each, but helps them flourish: "The number, the industry, and the morality of the Priesthood and the devotion of the people have been manifestly increased by the total separation of the Church and the State."

These are thinly-veiled hearings on Islanm, not "radical" Islam. If King cared so much about radical religion, he's got plenty of material with Christian fundamentalism. Why no hearings on this, King?

And Rep. King shows us once again, as do many of the comments posted here, that Islamophobia is alive and well in the USofA. Tailgunner Joe must be chuckling wherever (in hell) he is. These days it's "Muslims" instead of "Communists" but the radical right still believes that there is profit in paranoia, and the steady drumbeat from frightwing radio and Rupert's minions at FOX demonstrates that this is so. The idiots below who insist that we are at war with the world's 1.5 billion Muslims are living in a dark, scary world wherein WE are the good guys and just about EVERYBODY ELSE is thirsting for our blood. What the heck, it's always worked before, hasn't it? "BE AFRAID, be VERY afraid," we are told over and over again by Rush, O'Reilly, and Beck. I am reminded of a quote from Norman Corwin in the 1950s--Eric Savereid used part of it as the title for his autobiography--"The brotherhood of man is not so wild a dream as those who profit by its postponement would have us believe." Profit. Hoo boy, now there's something we Americans understand. Just ask Rupert Murdoch.

Unless Rep. Peter King is willing to look at the larger issue of terrorism, instead of focusing on Muslim radicalism, then this whole business smells like legitimizing racism, much in the same way the House Un-Americans Ethics Committee operated. Thanks, but no thanks.

What TOTAL MORONS there are on this board.

The FACT is that islam DOESN'T HAVE TO FIRE A SINGLE SHOT OR LAUNCH A GRENADE OR PLANT AN IED in order to DEFEAT the Western World, TOO FILLED WITH COWERING TROLLS LIKE THESE.

The West is riddled with DEMOCRACY and that is BOTH to it's great CREDIT as well as being it's great ACHILLES' HEEL.

Can you say, "DEMOGRAPHICS"?

The FACT is that all islam has to do is to OUTPRODUCE the Infidel in the BEDROOM and, eventually, ISLAM WILL DEFEAT the Western World WITH IT'S OWN VOTE.

The ONLY WAY to defeat islam is to EITHER, go forward and DESTROY THE SO-CALLED 'HOLY PLACES' IN SAUDI, thus exposing the LIE that there even IS an 'allah', OR, to impose TOTAL BANISHMENT of Islam from the Western World in order to SAVE OUR CULTURE.

The political heads of Germany and France have both said that MULTICULTURALISM HAS FAILED but, these Fred Grandy-like DOPES have STILL failed to BANISH OR DESTROY islam, though it imperils their very existence as much as a NUCLEAR STRIKE from Iran.

Posted by: elarsson | March 6, 2011 3:08 PM | Report abuse

It seems pretty obvious after reading some of the comments here, that Rep. Ellison is correct. We need to be holding hearings about the causes of radicalization/violence within more groups than just Muslim ones. Look at what happened in Arizona, the groups that want to send "thugs" to Wisconsin to start trouble, Oklahoma City, the recent elections where people showed up at political rallies wearing guns, people talking about "2nd Amendment" remedies simply because their side lost an election... As the Bible says, we need to remove the giant log from our own eye before we try to remove the speck from someone else's.

I say bring on the hearings. If anything it will expose the ignorant and intolerant politicians who are just pandering the religious and warhawking right and defense contractors.
Lets get everyone on record. Yes, lets catch Osama. But clearly we are seeing through the events in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt that "the enemy" is not Islam or muslims but extreme poverty and unemployment.
At some point we will have to abandon this trillion dollar middle east war binge and replace it with a more intelligent and more effective strategy of learning how to get along and support different cultures. And we should do it soon before King Fahd kicks off.

Incompetent and RACIST FBI bustards are not cooperating in the 911 investigation. It is proven by HONORABLE professor Steven Jones that 911 is inside job.

The ODIOUS , RACIST and INCOMPETENT FBI bustards have NOT CAUGHT the ANTHRAX MAILER.

Honorable Dr Bruce Ivins is not the anthrax mailer.

Its a zionist jew or anti-christ-fascist white NEOCON from INSIDE GROUP OF CHENEY. This is because the DNA matched that of AIMES IOWA Lab - a US source.

Also, FBI is not releaseing the PENTAGON videos and trying to tamper with the FOUR BLACK BOXES from the flights. Its SLEUTHS are burying their heads in the sand about the BUILDING SEVEN that violates NUMERICS of CAUSALITY, two planes but three buildings............... RAYMOND DAVIS case proves USA racism. He is double murderer and US SCREAMING about his release......... ISRAEL killed 100 US sailors on USS liberty and US president Lyndon and McNamara QUIETLY covered it up ............. THIS is UTTER RACISM !!!! CUT the salaries of FBI incompetentos by HALF all across the board , esp the white / jew on the top AND also SHUT down ANTI-FEDERATION Federal Reserve and SEIZE the wealth of the BANKSTERS which are too many due to FBI bustard incompetence who could not catch their kingpin BERNARD MADOFF !!!

Conclusion:

There's not much difference between these believers in allah, all share the INFIDEL HATE. Some are just willing to ACT upon their HATEFUL BELIEFS, but, ALL ARE GUILTY.

Yea, these Muslims in America are just not out of control the way we want them to be. Problem is, you can't fire 'em up enough. Even when you send undercover FBI agents in to the Mosques to bait the Muslims and fire them up, the Imam's end up turning the agents in to the FBI as radicals! So, how to get rid of Muslims in America? The best way is to try to find a Muslim or two that is radical, then you can use that exception to say it's all Muslims everywhere. Then, you can start the liquidation.

How do we counter organizations that attempt to stifle speech in this country? With more speech.

You have only yourself to blame, Mr. Hooper.

Of course blowing up physical sites such as the Holy Buddah in Afghanistan won't stop Buddhism. A statue is just that.

But, the ENTIRE CULT of islam hinges on maintaining the deception that there is an allah and that he has to be venerated at least once in one's lifetime at that SINGLE destination, the Mecca/Medina complex in Saudi Arabia, which, of course, is COMPLETE NONSENSE but THEY HAVE SOWED this 'nonsense' themselves and they will have to suffer the consequences once the World decides that it has HAD ENOUGH of this CULT MENACE which is NOT a REAL 'religious' organization, being BOTH a PRISON for one's spirit AND one's physical world.

Eliminating the PILGRIMAGE is CHILD'S PLAY and will demonstrate to the World that there is NO SUCH THING as 'islam's holy allah'.

I am concerned though that AMERICA really SHOULD BE the one to do the BULLDOZING.

If America were to be BEATEN TO THE KNOCK-OUT PUNCH of islam by, say, the CHINESE, who can just as well DRIVE BULLDOZERS as well as American's can, that would be a BIG PROPAGANDA VICTORY for them that the U.S. might live to regret, THOUGH, we WOULD still be rid of THE STINKING CULT and would be enjoying an INTERNATIONAL AIR TRANSPORTATION RENAISSANCE as compensation.

Why some of u peeps bee so dum? Religion in the Mideast is a net unifier--the glue that binds,so to speak. Fighting smart by the West means avoiding the Hannity-Faux Noise mindset of making radical Islam a monolithic enemy. Removing Islam as an enemy from our side of the conflict helps ensure schisms and sects return to their historical prominence in the political life(strife) of the Muslim world and will in quick order revert them to doing what they do best--killing each other. We ultimately prevail because they begin sending us prodigious quantities of oil at ever cheaper prices in order to purchase more expensive weaponry to do the job more efficiently.

Posted by: slim21 | March 6, 2011 1:55 PM | Report abuse

Lots of overheated rhetoric on this board. The proposed hearings are not about the "Islamic menace," they are about the radicalization of Muslim youth and what should be done about it. I'm glad Mr. Ellison is taking part, and I hope he keeps the hearings focused on what they should be about--the radicalization of youths to violence. It is happening on the Christian right, not in very large numbers, but worth serious attention. It isn't obvious what the main sources are--white supremicist and neo-Nazi groups? Fox News? the Tea Party? all of the above, in combination? It's important to find out, but even more important to find effective means of combating this radicalization. But the radicalization of Muslim youth is not only larger in scale and threat but also clearer in terms of source. They are getting it from the Internet and some of them are getting it from their mosques. It is tied to religious fundamentalism. It is faith-based to an extent that right-wing radicalism does not seem to be. So it is important to raise the question of what the Muslim clergy and the larger Muslim community is doing about it. Pious pronouncements about Islam being a religion of peace are obviously not having much effect. I'm tired of hearing them and I expect agitated young Muslims are even more so. The most helpful outcome of the hearings would be decisions by Muslim leaders to take a more forceful stance. How about using fatwas? How about telling the radical youths they are going to hell, where no virgins await them? Constructive outcomes require, of course, that the hearings be conducted in a fair-minded and constructive way--which, unfortunately, seems doubtful.

I am far left and know people who work in the West Wing (personally) who haven't a clue.

It is good to see that there are many in this thread who understand the significant threat that Islam presents to the American way of life.

It would be great if those same people would understand the threat to American life from the banksters, the lack of national healthcare, and the failure to provide for old age through a social security program, but, I will take what I can get.

Yes, we are at war with Islam. We are at war with 1.5 billion people. If only Islam could change the way that Zuhdi Jasser suggests, it would be a great thing. Wafa Sultan has taken the position that Islam can't be changed, so she must quit it. Then, she aims to change the 1.5 billion adherents from the outside.

One will notice that my comments about the MURDER/SUICIDE CULT OF islam, which AIN'T NO RELIGION that ANYBODY would be PROUD to be a part of, are, TOTALLY NON-VIOLENT against the stinking moslem hordes.

These FILTH ought to be DEPORTED en mass to SAUDI ARABIA, where they really want to go to anyway, being CULT MEMBERS, and good riddance.

HOWEVER, the IDEAL solution to the World's LARGEST CULT problem WILL BE THE DESTRUCTION of the CULT for ALL TIME by PULVERIZING the physical sites in MECCA AND MEDINA which represent the destinations of the muslim pilgrim, the so-called 'Holy Places'.

These locales are islam's WEAKEST FEATURE, being mandatory destinations to visit before Death.

Eliminating THEM will eliminate the ENTIRE CULT since the VICTIMS of islam, THE MUSLIMS, will have to ask themselves, "Why did Allah allow the destruction of the Holy Places?"

The answer will be thought before being spoken, "There IS NO allah. He is a FAKE. Islam is a fake. I have been deceived!"

This will be especially, and truly heartfelt remorse, since the means of the decimation of the sites will be via the CATERPILLAR D-9 BULLDOZER, an AMAZING MACHINE which can GRIND UP any number of 'HOLY PLACES' you may wish to place in front of its MASSIVE BLADE.

If only would could change them the say that Zuhdi Jasser suggests, it would be a great thing. Wafa Sultan has taken the position that Islam can't be changed, so she must quit it. Then, she aims to change the 1.5 billion adherents from the outside.

I do not know the solution. But, I know that those who sit in the West Wing are clueless on this issue.

Just substitute Jew for Muslim in many of the right wing comments on here and the similarities are abundantly clear. Look at notinmt's comments, for example. That writer obviously knows nothing about Islam or its 1.3 billion adherents worldwide (3 million in US). He's a perfect "brown shirt" candidate. Sadly, the GOP thrives on stoking fears based on people's ignorance. GOP leaders in this country should be ashamed of themselves for adding fuel to the fire. The FACTS are that Muslims CAN renounce the MURDEROUS AND SUICIDAL behavior of their idiot 'belief system', a CULT REALLY, because the CULT ALLOWS them to seem repentant ALL WHILE SECRETLY UPHOLDING THE STINKING KORAN IN THEIR HEARTS.

It's all about FOOLING the INFIDEL into believing that there are many GOOD muslims when REALLY, there are NOT.

There CAN NOT be 'good' muslims because their stinking Koran is chock full of infidel-HATE and they BELIEVE IT and they TEACH IT TO THEIR LITTLE KIDDIES.

A little background: King is my Congressman, much as I would like to disown him. Several years ago, he was all about prayer in schools. That was the hot topic then. My challenge to him, which he never answered, was what about those who are not Christians (the question was asked inside a synagogue, by the way). I never got a good answer.

Now, its about terrorism and fear and pandering. These are all emotional hotbuttons among the blue collar ignorant who watch Tox Noise. It's FEAR of the OTHER that Senator McCarthy oops, Congressman King wants to stir up. And what will King 'learn'? Whatever he wants to hear.

BUT, they can't renounce these things simply because they ARE part of islam...

ALL Muslims ARE terrorists because they serve to cloak and offer support and succor to the activist jihadis by their ongoing membership and witness on behalf of their MURDER/SUICIDE CULT, islam.

One can NEVER be sure WHO or WHICH muslim will 'go off' and go bonkers with the 'allah akbar' NONSENSE at ANY TIME.

This is the TERROR of islam and the UNITED STATES has been being continuously TERRORIZED by these VERMIN since at least 1785 to include Thomas Jefferson, who essentially suffered the EXACT SAME attacks upon his Country of the time as George Bush did upon his.

BANNING and DEPORTING all believers in the stinking CULT, which AIN'T NO RELIGION, is really a MANDATORY CONSEQUENCE of the MAYHEM AND SLAUGHTER mete out to INFIDELS all over the World.

The leftist liberal Democrat slant is to make the hearings on radical Islam look like a poor religious minority is being “pick on.” Rubbish! Rep. Peter King is concerning about the U.S. war on terrorism and the way national security is being miss-managed by the Obama administration.

Why did Obama take Islam or references to jihad religious terrorist attacks on the U.S. by Islam fanatics of the Muslim world out of national security news reporting? Why did it take so long for the Ft. Hood Islam terrorist attacker to be identified as a radical Islam?

Americans have a right to know the sources of the terrorist attacks on the U.S. and all the harm caused to the American way of life as at airports. Please support Rep. Pete King for taking up a righteous cause for the American people. The Obama Democrats have hurt Americans and help to embolden radical Islam continue terrorist attacks.

Evidence suggests Rep. RIGHT WING - Islamophobes should look at their own book when claiming that Islam promotes violence

In the Old Testament, people are sometimes commanded by God to go to war. In Deuteronomy, Joshua and Judges, God often tells his people to fight and destroy foreign tribes to gain the Promised Land (Israel).

“The lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little…..the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great confusion until they are destroyed……..no one will be able to stand up against you; you will destroy them.”

Deuteronomy 7:22-24

The Old Testament Prophet, Joel, tells the people that God wants them to go and fight.

“ Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men drawn near and attack.”

Joel 3:9-10

“ The Lord is a warrior.”

Exodus 15:3

“ You shall not kill.”

Exodus 20:13.

“Kill” refers only to unlawful killing, not other forms of killing, e.g. war.

“ There is a time for killing, and a time for healing, a time for tearing down and a time for building up, a time for tearing and a time for mending, a time for love and the time for hate, a time for war, and a time for peace.”

Ecclesiastes 3:2-8

God loves the kind: "God does not forbid you to be kind and equitable to those who have neither fought against your faith nor driven you out of your homes. In fact God loves the equitable." Chapter 60, Verse 8
About Jesus: "And in their [the earlier prophets] footsteps We sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the law that had come before him. We sent him the Gospel, therein was guidance and light and confirmation of the law that had come before him, a guidance and an admonition to those who fear God." Chapter 5, Verse 46
Good and evil: "Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein, and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause shares in its burden." Chapter 4, Verse 85
Reaction to evil: "Repel (evil) with what is better. Then will he, between whom and thee was hatred, become as it were thy friend and intimate. And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint." Chapter 41, Verse 34 and 35
Do good: "Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden (paradise) whose width is that of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous - Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity or in adversity, who restrain (their) anger and pardon (all) men - for God loves those who do good." Chapter 3, Verses 133-134
Reward for righteousness: "Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily, to them will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions." Chapter 16, Verse 97
Acts of compassion: "And what will explain to you what the steep path is? It is the freeing of a (slave) from bondage; or the giving of food in a day of famine to an orphan relative, or to a needy in distress. Then will he be of those who believe, enjoin fortitude and encourage kindness and compassion." Chapter 90, Verses 12-17

I can't wait for the hearings which I'm sure will be chock full of ethnic stereotyping, hypocrisy and grandstanding.

And then I'll wait for the announcement that King is also going to investigate the hundreds of homegrown radical militia groups that have nothing to do with Islam.

I suspect I'll be waiting a long time.

Congressman, if you want to be helpful and not simply inflame the middle east wy don't you look into other radicalized religious groups who are a whole lot more dangerous to the United States.

The right-wing fundamentalist cults in this country are more dangerous. If you haven't noticed they have been murdering doctors. Most of the cult leaders live a lavish, robber-baron lifestyle. I'm willing to bet you can find just a tiny bit of tax evasion involved.

If you don't like the idea of investigating domestic cults and pseudo-religions then try some domestic propaganda-style media organizations. There are laws against inciting mob violence. There used to be rules against distortions, divisive broadcasts and making up "facts" before Gingrich and another right-wing cult - the Reaganites - took a chainsaw to FCC regulatory powers.

That not in your agenda, then how about an investigation into the corrupt lobbyist system buying and selling votes in Congress we have in this country? Or ideological judges using standards outside the law to pass judgments.

Representative King, I am sure you can find something to investigate in this country that is a lot more pertinent and closer to home.

And, lastly, stop wasting tax payer dollars!

Well considering the last guy to fly an airplane into a federal building was an angry white guy when will be having congressional hearings regarding angry white people?

How about a hearing on domestic terrorists connected to right wing extremist groups. The pro-democracy movement in the middle east and North Africa will render radical Islam impotent. No more US backed dictators to rail against.

The real threat to US security is Right Wing extremists

No one should post on this subject without first reading the Koran, the writing thier Holy book makes it all plain as the nose on your face. Read it for yourself and form your own conclusions.
I have read the Koran cover to cover and other books including even a rare 18th century book in my library, "Letters To a Lady" which tells the true story of a group of Englishmen stranded in Arabia. There can and will never be peace with these barbarians.

If he was investigating some of the radical "Christian" groups as well it would be better. After all, prior to 9/11 the worst terrorist attack on US soil was perpetrated by a far-right Christian fundementalist.

Also, there are many evangelicals in this country whoose theology is pretty nuts. They think that if they believe Jesus died for their sins then they're going to heaven no matter how awful they live their lives. It gives them a license to lie, cheat and steal.

So let's investigate them all and we can include the Elmer Gantry's out there as well.

Just to be fair we should investigate the peoples religion behind the TWO largest terrorist attacks on the US. So since Oklahoma bombing was the second largest attack we should also investigate the Christian terrorists. What ever happened to freedom of religion. The founding
Fathers wanted all religions free including the Muslim. Why do the republicans want to disregard the laws of this country. We are going to have another McCarthy witch hunt.

Sorry Mr. King but you are candy coating a situation that is much more dangerous than you are portraying it to be.

Rep. Peter King-NY, a modern day Joe McCarthy! What a joke!!!

"...singling out one community is the wrong thing to do."

Did Ellison expects Rep. King to investigate the radicalized Buddhists? How delusional.

Last I checked, it was the radicalized muslims that blew up the twin towers, it was a radicalized muslim that tried to blow up Dallas, it was a radicalized muslim that tried to blow up the Christmas tree in Portland, it was a radicalized muslim that tried to blow up Timesquare, it was a radicalized muslim that tried to blow up LAX. I could go on.

Not all muslims are radicalized, until they of course, do.

Rep. King should investigate the muslim and any group like them, and investigate them more often.

So, King wants to have a legislative hearing about how dangerous a particular kind of religion is, and he thinks that's OK?

Is it also OK to have a legislative hearing on how really great another religion is?

Better yet, why not cut to the chase, and have some legislative action to decide which religions are good, and which are bad?

"Have you ever wondered why every Muslim country is a Human-rights disaster?

Misogyny, Homophobia and Pedophilia are codified into Islamic jurisprudence via The Quran and the Hadith. Are you familiar with the Islamic concepts of "TAQIYYA", "KITMA", "JIZYA" or "DHIMMI"? Do you understand what "Abrogation" means in the Quran? No? Go educate yourselves.

The Jihadis are alive and well in America and using our own systems of fair government against us, and many organizations on The Left are in collusion with them when they should know better.
Check out these films online; "The Third Jihad", "FITNA", "What the West Needs to Know."

As King has demonstrated with his support for the IRA, one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

American Terrorist Groups are more prominent and active than Islamic groups. Why the push at Muslims?

Wow, we better include those extreme Hare Krishna people handing out flowers in airports. They look pretty dangerous to me! :-) What a load. It's the Islamists, stupid!

Posted by: azumaguy | March 6, 2011 10:55 AM | Report abuse

Peter King, as someone who materially and verbally supported the terrorist IRA as recently as the 1990s, has no business on the Homeland Security Committee, or throwing stones from his glass house.

"...that I do agree that we should deal with radicalization and violent radicalization, but that singling out one community is the wrong thing to do."

Should we waste time and effort throwing other groups in, say Buddhists, in order to appear politically correct? It is only common sense to target the group that has more than demonstrated a threat.

Peter King (R-N.Y. and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn. are both correct. At this time investigate Islam and when and if there is actions by any other group religious or not then investigate them.
