Specter's final pitch to Pa. voters: 'Experience and seniority'
It was the dog days of August when Rep. Joe Sestak announced his bid against incumbent Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, who had the backing of President Obama, Vice President Biden, Gov. Ed Rendell (D-Pa.), the state party organization and almost every key labor union. Many national party leaders believed the backing of such prominent figures would overcome doubts about the more than 28 years Specter spent as a Republican representing Pennsylvania in the Senate. But those party leaders at the so-called "grass tops" have not exactly nailed down support for Specter at the true grass-roots level.

In Ky., confident Paul foresees 'a tea party tidal wave coming'
The establishment candidates for the U.S. Senate could lose on both the Democratic and Republican side Tuesday in primaries to replace retiring Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning (R), an outcome that would further illustrate the appeal of running as an outsider in the 2010 election cycle.

Snow doesn't dampen Mass. election fervor
The worse the weather, the larger the question of voter motivation looms over the race for a successor to Ted Kennedy in the United States Senate. Democrats are trying to motivate a base of loyal voters alerted--relying by polls and the 11th hour visit of President Obama on Sunday--to the possible loss of what was widely regarded a safe seat for state attorney general Martha Coakley. The campaign of Republican candidate Scott Brown, a state senator, is reaching out to voters from traditional phone banks, but also aiming to marshal enthusiasm through the internet and social networking.

Ohio IG Report: Joe the Plumber's Records Were Improperly Searched
The director of an Ohio human services agency has been suspended for a month without pay and faces review by a county prosecutor for using confidential state databases to find personal information on "Joe the Plumber." She will also face review for using her state e-mail address to help Barack Obama's fundraising by identifying potential contributors and offering her own $2,500 donation.
