Heritage Foundation: Gay group is a factor in CPAC pullout

When the Heritage Foundation first announced that it was pulling out of this year's Conservative Political Action Conference, the conservative institution was quick to say that the controversy over the inclusion of gay Republican group GOProud had nothing to do with it.

Haley Barbour takes heat for jet trips

Just a week after coming under fire for saying he didn't remember the civil-rights era being that bad, Politico reports that Mississippi governor and potential 2012 presidential candidate Haley Barbour (R) has been flying lavishly on the taxpayer's dime.

Haley Barbour: I don't remember the civil rights era being that bad

The Fix called attention this morning to Haley Barbour's defense of his experience as a GOP lobbyist in the Weekly Standard's new profile of the Mississippi governor and potential 2012 candidate. But buried toward the end of the piece, Barbour makes some more-eyebrow-raising comments in describing his home town of Yazoo City, Miss., during the civil rights era.
