Army 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe

They say the President doesn't read newspapers, but I hope he pauses to read the stunning Steve Fainaru story that ran at the top of Friday's front page. It's a heartbreaking piece, masterfully crafted. Our ombudsman, Mike Getler, says it may be the single best piece of war reporting to come out of this conflict. (Fainaru has written a number of great stories, at considerable personal risk.) This article shows the courage and humanity of soldiers under fire. Whatever you think of this administration's ambitions in the Middle East, they have to be carried out by young Americans sent into some of the most dangerous places on Earth. The latest order: Hand out leaflets and try not to get shot. Lock and load and get out the vote. Read this story of a heroic soldier, Army 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe, who died without ever knowing what hit him.
