My friend Mike came over this weekend and monkeyed around with the recalcitrant wireless network in my house and for a brief shining moment it appeared that he had got things working, simply by removing some encyrption and enabling anyone to sign onto the network and see my personal files and write themselves checks from my online bank account, etc. I was thrilled! But as the evening went on, he looked increasingly concerned, and said things like, "Something's not quite right here," in the way that a surgeon, opening up a patient, can't seem to find the pancreas. On the brighter side, I finished the night up 10 cents in poker. It feels good to be ahead in something.

Also had to love the way the Wizards, my new favorite team outside of Gator Country, finished off the Pacers with a delicious last-second driving kiss-the-glass lay-up by Antawn Jamison. I've seen Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes make similar last-second shots to win. These guys are great to watch, and one wants to pinch oneself: A Washington sports team doing well! Next thing you know, even the Democrats might win something.
