Will the Last Conservative in Washington...
... please turn out the lights.
The Schiavo case is just the latest evidence that the Republicans are all Kennedy-Johnson liberals when it comes to the role of government. The President gave us an open-ended guerilla war in Asia, he's argued that we should go to the moon again, he's signed off on a prescription drug benefit that represents the largest expansion in entitlements in 40 years, [and ran up the national debt...the examples keep coming when you pause to think about it, though I'm too busy and won't] and now he takes the extremely radical step of waking up in the middle of the night to sign a bill federalizing a medical case in Florida because you just can't trust those state courts down South. George Will must be feeling very lonely these days.
(Let me go on record now: No one should take any extraordinary medical measures to prolong my life in the event of my incapacitation, and in particular I do not want my brain to be kept alive in a vat that is transported around the country to science fairs and museums. Study my brain all you want, but please, let me have some dignity.)
