Henrietta Keller, of Garrett Park, wrote to say that the beard "sure looks like dandelions to me."
The mustard greens and mesclun mix look pretty beaten down, but will spring back once temperatures remain above freezing for a few days.
I may rig hoops and cover them with row covers simply because I have so much lettuce and it is so good fresh.
Like all dazzling artists, vegetables perform best in the limelight.

As bad as tomato seeds are to prepare, cucumbers' are worse.
An enterprising gardener could produce a late fall, early winter salad of lettuce, kale, arugula and mustard greens, to mention a few, all topped with willing pansies or violas.
