Market Roundup: Dec. 16-Dec. 19

A taste of what will be at area farmers markets this week:


At today's FreshFarm Market in Penn Quarter, shoppers will receive a free cup of spiced apple cider; Garner’s Produce will have red cabbage ($3), as well as fresh shelling beans, pumpkins, spinach and purple and white cauliflower; Groff’s Content will have duck and chicken eggs and meats including rabbit and duck; Copper Pot will have beef stock, pork sugo and ragu Bolognese.

At Saturday’s FreshFarm Market in Silver Spring, Atwaters will have panettone ($13). This will be the final market day for 2010. The market will reopen in 2011.

At Sunday’s FreshFarm Market in Dupont Circle, several farmers and producers will pack up for the winter including Clear Spring Creamery, Harmony Creek Farm, Anchor Nursery, New Morning Farm, Little Scrub Ridge and Gardener’s Gourmet.


At Sunday’s FreshFarm Market in Dupont Circle, chef Guilherme Barreto of Floriana restaurant will have a cooking demo at 11 a.m.

At Sunday’s Takoma Park Farmers Market, Blue Ridge Botanicals will have table wreaths; Clear Spring Creamery will have Camembert cheese and quark cheese, yogurt and milk. Both vendors are packing for the winter and will return in the spring.
