Pizza gets a new set of wheels
I'd read about mobile wood-burning pizza ovens on the Web, but I got to see one humming yesterday at the Bethesda Central Farm Market (I know, I know. I'm writing about the place yet again. What can I say? It's the one closest to where I live, and my favorite these days -- with new things to see and try each week.)
The cool thing is: This wood-burning pizza oven's on a trailer and is available for rental. Wouldn't that be a great party feature?
Eurogourmet of Beltsville are the folks to contact; no rental price has been set yet. The company's president and chief officer, Francesco Marra, was on hand with his partners for the rollout. The trailer itself looks a bit like the porchetta trucks at outdoor markets in Italy, all gleeming and white. The oven is made by Cirigliano Forni. (This trailer even has a narrow counter with inlaid Italian glass tiles.) For now, they're calling it Wood-burning Pizza On the Go.
With logs already burning at 9:30 a.m., and the oven temperature at 700 degrees, it took less than 2 minutes to cook a 10-inch margherita pie, which tasted particularly good on a chilly morning. Market co-manager Mitch Berliner says plans are afoot to fire up custom-order breakfast pizzas and more starting next week, using produce, eggs and charcuterie from the market ($8 and up).
