To Market, to Market: Where the chefs are

At some area farmers markets, shoppers can watch local chefs demonstrate dishes, then buy the ingredients from vendors on-site to try the recipes at home. Two markets have released their demo schedules for the next few months.

The Falls Church Farmers Market is ramping up the Market Chef series it began last year, doubling the number of demos this season for the Saturday morning event. All demos run from 9 to 11 a.m.; the general market hours are 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at City Hall, 300 Park Ave., Falls Church.

On tap through November:

May 15 – The Liberty Tavern/Lyon Hall/Northside Social
June 5 – The Restaurant at Patowmack Farms, Chris Chapeau Long
June 26 – Sinplicity Catering, Leland Atkinson
Aug. 21 – Argia’s, Aimee Suyehiro
Sept. 11 – The Westin Tysons Corner, Brian Long
Oct. 2 – Willow, Debra Rubin, Kate Jensen and Tracy O’Grady
Oct. 30 – Liberty Tavern, Liam LaCivita and David King
Nov. 20 – 2941, Chef Bertrand Chemel

The Olney Farmers and Artists Market opens May 9 in a new location this year. You'll find it in front of the Montgomery General Hospital Thrift Shop, 2805 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., in Olney. Chef demonstrations are at 11 a.m.; the general market hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 7.
