Gansler goes Daily

Montgomery County State's Attorney Doug Gansler is no stranger to televisions cameras. But last night marked his maiden voyage on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Gansler was asked to explain his office's prosecution of Raymond Hugh McNealy, 44 for indecent exposure after mooning his neighbor in Germantown.

It would be impossible for us to describe Daily Show correspondent Ed Helms's interview of Gansler, but sufficed to say that it took a turn for the worse when Helms began describing other types of indecent exposure, including one he called "the helicopter." For a full description, you'll have to catch the re-run on Comedy Central tonight at 8.

Gansler says he hasn't seen the piece yet, but got a kick out of doing the interview. He dropped in on the Comedy Central studios on Jan. 12, while in New York to hold a fundraiser at the Yale Club for his possible Attorney General run.

"You just can't take yourself too seriously not to do something like that," Gansler said.

For those who may have forgotten the case, McNealy was acquitted when a judge declared his mooning was disgusting but not illegal.

"If exposure of half of the buttock constituted indecent exposure, any woman wearing a thong at the beach at Ocean City would be guilty," Circuit Judge John W. Debelius III said after the bench trial, reversing the ruling of a District Court judge.
