Duncan's Video Debut

Theoretically, it could be the first commercial of this fall's Democratic primary for governor. But the video produced by Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan isn't running on TV just yet. He sent it out on an email to supporters yesterday.
And in case there was any doubt, Duncan makes clear that he'll be focusing his attention on the record of his primary opponent Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley.

The last thing we need is an overly contentious primary. All this is going to do is give Bobby Haircut's team that much more ammo to use against the eventual primary winner, in the general election.
And so far, the negative campaigning has come from only one candidate: Duncan.

I saw the video- The quotes appear to be straight up news quotes. If O'Malley can't talk about his record, then what exactly would he like to talk about? Duncan talks about his records- everywhere he goes... I support Doug!

Good for you Veronica. I mean honestly, who really needs to read the whole article. Just take the quotes as presented out of context, and role with it.
Fact of the matter is, Duncan has not had one honest thing to say, has failed to defend his own record (for example, he keeps blaming the rising violent crime rate in Montgomery County on the sniper);
Cannot raise a dime (why do you think this ad came out on his website);
And cannot get anyone to run with him because his campaign isn't getting any traction and they don't want to give up their seats in a losing race.
All Duncan is doing is hurting our Party with his nonsense, but that is Duncan, thinking of number one, while going number two on the rest of us.

These silly website videos will never make it to TV. The reason why is Duncan's fundriasing effort has been a disaster, his staff is bloated and overpaid therefore he can't afford to buy the airtime.

In his last election when Duncan was pushing the so-called "End Gridlock" slate for the Council, he brought MoCo politics to a new low with mudslinging and smears against his opponents. This time around he's going for broke; he knows his political career is over if he doesn't win the primary. "Fasten your seat belts;..."

That's right, Pepe. Duncan's pro-ICC, in-the-pocket-of-developers "End Gridlock" slate was a new low. Let's hope that MoCo voters are now awake. The Clarksburg developer scandal should have helped. Maybe we'll get a new council in 2006 that actually cares about average citizens, not just big developers and real estate moguls.

Duncan may appeal to developers and Casa De Maryland, but it's obvious that he has forgotten about his constituents. It seems that he really thinks that the voters want illegal alien day laborer centers and the Strathmore. At the same time, he could care less about schools (look at all the trailers) and the roads (look at all the potholes).
My guess is that he'll drop out of the election by April.

I support Arts funding and the Strathmore but I want Duncun going after Gov. Ehrlich not Mayor O'Malley. I'd like to see who is the most effective in opposing the Republican incumbent. That can start now and if Duncun does a better job of it than O'Malley, he can have my vote.He definitely won't get it if he spends his time fighting a Democrat. My pleas is --Co. Exec. Duncun - use your money and support to unseat Ehrlich starting today. Show us your stuff.

I'm surprised by the Duncan bashing. He only runs the best government in Maryland. MoCo has a lot going for it, and Duncan doesn't get all the credit. But let's be fair--the guy gets things done. I'd take Doug Duncan in my county any day.

I'm not bashing Duncun, I'm bashing his bashing and attacks on fellow Democrats. He's a fine County Executive and MoCo is a wondrful place to live. We just want him to highlight his strengths and differences with Governor Ehrlich. Md. Dems are getting really sick of inter-party fighting that bruises everyone in the general elections. We want to win!

Geez, that video really sucks . . . my 8th grade son could have done a better job producing the video than the Duncan campaign did.
This Duncan campaign is really going to go down as one of the more poorly managed gubernatorial campaigns in Maryland history, except for maybe the Townsend campaign.

Let's do a recap of Marty Rock Star O'Malley on crime stats:
1998 (referring to Mayor Schmoke's stats): "A massive hoax!"
2006 "We're auditing internally and I trust our auditing."
1999 'Our audit is reasonable because the FBI helped'
2006 'The FBI is biased after 4 years of being under George W. Bush'
Feb 14 2006 'I won't push for an audit.'
Feb 23 2006 'We welcome an independent audit'.
Come clean Mayor O'Malley. You've got your supporters on hear beating the drum that this is a distraction, but you won't actually do anything substantive. Lying is not virtuous, but something seems to indicate to me you don't care about perceptions of yourself.
I do not support Doug Duncan or Mayor O'Malley. But I'll tell you one thing. Mayor Boy Wonder in Baltimore seems incomptent. Awards his brother a no-bid contract to do citi stats and gosh, what a surprise when the stats are cooked books.
Let's ask some tough questions here:
Why'd you lie about the rumor bit? (not that the rumors were true, but the timeframes where yours and Katie's comments seemed to lack that any logic whatsoever)
Why'd you cook the books? If you didn't, open up for an FBI audit like you did in 99.
Why are the schools in such poor shape?
Why was your special ed program ordered by a federal judge to be taken over by the state?
Where were you during all of this--rocking with your band?
Who really is worse, GW or Al Qaeda?

Labor Unions are not backing Duncan.
There are more than 600 different labor unions in the State of Maryland. Duncan makes a big deal about seven of those unions endorsing him. What about the other 593?
Ask the AFL-CIO, the parent organization for most of thise unioin who thay have endorsed, it asn't Duncan.

I just reviewed the video. The part showing Duncan's positives is good and effective but the negative attack on O'Malley is unnecessary, doesn't work, and just turns off Democrats who are really intersted in replacing this Republican governor. Can't we all just get along?
