Lichtman's Big Splash

U.S. Senate candidate Allan Lichtman has plunged into the Democratic primary contest, literally jumping into the C&O Canal in a business suit for the campaign's first television commercial that begins airing today on television stations that air in the Washington suburbs and Baltimore.

Lichtman, an American University professor who is one of seven Democratic candidates in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Paul Sarbanes, said the playful commercial is intended to send a serious message.

"You can send a conventional politician to the Senate and it'll be like throwing a pebble on a pond: a little bit of ripple and nothing will change," he says in the ad, tossing a pebble into the water at Wheaton Regional Park.

Then, just before the jump: "Or let's make a big splash and together change Washington!"

The nearly 100 "Splash for Change" spots will be broadcast on CNN, Headline News, Comedy Central and BET for one week.
