Hoyer Serenaded in Prince George's

Several hundred people showed up at the Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville Friday night to fete House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) at the congressman's 27th annual Bull Roast fundraiser.

On the mansion's grand portico, an unlikely duo serenaded Hoyer with a Marilyn Monroe-esque rendition of "Happy Birthday" for the congressman who turns 68 on Thursday. U.S. Sen. Benjamin L. Cardin (D-Md.) joined in the duet with Debra Rales, the wife of Joshua B. Rales, the Montgomery County millionaire businessman who unsuccessfully challenged Cardin in last year's Democratic primary.

Debra Rales also sang the national anthem at the beginning of the fundraiser. Applauding her singing talent, Hoyer said she and her husband are close friends of his.

Also in attendance at the bull roast were Democrats past and present, including former governors Parris N. Glendenning and Marvin Mandel, former senator Paul S. Sarbanes, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller (D-Calvert), Comptroller Peter Franchot, former Prince George's county executive Wayne K. Curry, and former attorney general candidate Stuart O. Simms.

Simms and Rales were mum when asked whether they are considering any future runs for public office.
Also present were Democratic state lawmakers, county and municipal officials from the five counties that make up Hoyer's 5th congressional district: Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George's and St. Mary's.

I am interested by the presence of Wayne Curry who is immmensely popular within the County, among the affluent folks and others as the man who made it the hottest place in the world for black people. What is interesting is his place with the old guard, who thought he hurt the party by criticizing Glendenning, and they really hate him for backing Steele, in defiance of the machine. Clearly, Wayne thinks he can make it without them but is he wrong at the state-wide level. Any comments? Will Curry run again or is was he just showing off?

I'd hold my nose and vote for him as County Exec again. Anything is better than the current one.

"This dude is Anthony Lamar Nunley, Renee A.' s brother (Philadelphia), Linda's son (Maryland) and singer Tabi Bonney's cousin. He worked as a manager in Samsung (Dallas TX) and in Motorola (Chicago). He was born in Washington, Columbia District, United States, the 25th of December 1969. He studied electric engineering at Howard University...

..We met each other on Match.com (December 2005) and the funny thing was that since the beginning he swore for God's sake that he was gonna love me over all, get marry, have kids and live together until death do us part. I'm kind of naive and believed all what he told me, plus he came to my country (Cartagena, Colombia) and popped the question and told my parents he wanted to marry me, in a certain way he was asking for permission. In 2006 he visited me 3 times and the last time he came, he stayed over my place with me and my 3 years old daughter in my flat...."

We're going to get someone better or at least different than the current Prince George's County executive next time anyway, due to term limits.
