O'Malley To Name Top Energy Official
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) is scheduled today to announce the appointment of Malcolm Woolf, a former counsel to a congressional committee, as head of the Maryland Energy Adminstration, according to a senior state government official.
The agency advises the governor on energy policy and is likely to focus in the next few years on conservation effforts and alternative fuels. Woolf comes from the National Governors Association, where he headed the Natural Resources Committee. Before that, he was minority counsel to the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
His appointment comes on the heels of steep hike in electricity bills for BGE customers. Woolf will succeed Frederick G. Davis, who held the job under former governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr (R).

Great, O'Malley oversees a 50 PERCENT HIKE IN ELECTRICITY RATES AND THEN AFTER THAT BRINGS IN A NEW ENERGY SECRETARY. WOULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER TO BRING IN A NEW ENERGY CHIEF BEFORE O'MALLEY PRESIDED OVER THE MOST MASSIVE ELECTRICITY RATE HIKE IN THE ENTIRE NATION THIS YEAR. OH WELL, LEAVE IT TO O'MALLEY AND HIS BAND OF MERRYMEN TO CONTINUE TO RUN MARYLAND INTO THE GROUND.

The first sentence in the last paragraph dropped a line. It should have read, "His appointment comes on the heels of a steep hike in the energy bills for BGE customers, a steep hike in gasoline prices and a proposed steep hike in the gasoline tax by Montgomery County Executive Leggett and others in the Administration in Annapolis." We regret the omission.

Truth,
You should be lecturing your Governor on what the truth is. You should remind him that this historic rate increase was caused by MD Democrats in 1999 and that O'Malley's empty campaign rhetoric is leaving everyone holding the bag (or bill, as it were). He has and never did have a plan to combat this issue.
What he did do is tell everyone that Ehrlich was caving in to energy companies. Who's caving in now and at who's expense? All the those road sign changes and MD government website updates with his mugshot haven't changed a thing. What a surprise.

So "Truth", you say we should pay no attention to the man behind the curtain?

I would like to thank BGE and the state of Maryland and the DEMS for my BGE rate hike. This adds several hundred dollars MORE to my monthly expenses. I'm already working two jobs trying to dig out of debt.
PS. Stop raising our taxes... were overtaxed here and tired of it.. More tax is NOT the solution to the states money woes.... cut the waste... the spending and programs that don't work...
stop raising taxes... the cost of living in AA county is out of hand.

Don't we have a short memory, Repubs?! Sure O'Malley pressured BG&E to lower their rate hike to 50%. Erlich has the rate hike over 75%! I'll take the lower riate hike anyday. We're already taking it in the shorts at the gas pump...whats next. O'Malley's a new governor and he's fired the first volley...now we need to let him know he needs to play hardball with these utilities which are really owned by Enron-sized multi-regional power brokers. Now, if O'Malley actually caps the rates adn we see some real savings...are you going to call him a communist?
