Brown "Among The Trailblazers," Newsweek Says

Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D) is getting a little national attention this week with a mention in Newsweek.

Brown is cited in a piece headlined "After the Trailblazers," which runs as a sidebar to a story on Barack Obama and showcases other African-American politicians who "appeal to all races by stressing consensus over conflict."

Others featured in the sidebar include District Mayor Adrian Fenty (D), Newark Mayor Corey Booker (D), Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) and Rep. Arthur Davis (D-Ala.).

All of the above, Newsweek says, "ran mainstream campaigns appealing to all races, stressing consensus and competence, and often forging close ties with the business community."

(The piece makes no mention of the fact that Brown was the No. 2 candidate on a jointly elected ticket headed by Gov. Martin O'Malley (D), who is white. Among states that have lieutenant governors, governors and lieutenant governors are elected separately in 18 of them, according to the National Lieutenant Governors Association.)

"We're the beneficiaries of a lot of trailblazing and hard work and sacrifice from African-Americans who came before," Brown says in the piece.

Leave it to the Democratic party to beat down Michael Steele, call him an "Uncle Tom" Bushie, kick Mfume to the curb and prop up their own white geezer Senate candidate Cardin for election. Then they parade their lap dog Anthony Brown around like he and the Democrats are some sort of groundbreaking pioneers for doing something that was done for the first time four years earlier by Republicans...and they get away with it.

I've gotta hand it to you. You guys play the smoke and mirrors game better than anyone. Hats off.

BG from PG: I agree with you 100%. Lap dog and Anthony Brown says it all.

Mayor Fenty is head and shoulders above the rest. He has shown the ability to think outside the box in both his campaign and since being elected. If Anthony Brown had been running for
Governor on his own and had then been made part of the Democratic ticket, I would have been more impressed. Name a single idea he has had to balance the Maryland budget without a tax increase!

Wow, lots of GOP sour grapes over Brown taking Steele's job from him? Its the will of the people. In time, Brown will either prove his mettle or not. His career will reflect his success or failure. I'd like to hear more from him. Can't form an opinion this soon...don't really see how anyone can, honestly.
