"O'Malley's Stroll" Takes Stage In Annapolis

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D), whose musical side career has been on hiatus, stepped back on stage last night.

Appearing with two members of his Celtic rock band, O'Malley's March, the governor played a three-song opening set at a concert in Annapolis headlined by the Saw Doctors, a band from Ireland that played at O'Malley's inaugural ball in January.

"We wouldn't have done it if the Saw Doctors hadn't begged and begged," O'Malley said from the stage of the Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, which had not advertised his appearance.

The slimmed-down version of O'Malley's seven-piece band was dubbed "O'Malley's Stroll."

"He's not an easy act to follow. We feel like the new mayor of Baltimore," quipped Leo Moran, the Saw Doctors' lead guitarist.

O'Malley said in a recent interview that his band is seeking to release a new CD, tentatively titled "Banished to the Basement," by Christmas. The full band is scheduled to play at an Irish festival in Baltimore next month.

It was a pretty good show last night. The governor/former mayor/future president was in good form and the Saw Doctors were fantastic as always. I would be interested to know what an outsider thought of the show.

O'Malley is a tone deaf ego-centric moron and his ineptitude as a musician is only outmatched by his ineptidue as Governor.

When he loses his re-election bid in 2010, he might make a few bucks as a street performer at the Gallery Place - Chinatown Metro stop.

Wait, didn't Mr. O'Malley need to quit this same band to be "laser-focused" on the job of Governor...err running for Governor? What a bleepin hypocrite. The Washington Post did a story about Ehrlich's golfing, didn't they? How about one for O'Malley's campaign promise to quit the band to focus on governing and then show up at Rams Head, Irish Festival in Baltimore, travel to fish in upstate NY instead of on our bountiful Bay, travel to OBX instead of OC, etc etc. The guy is a walking definition of hypocrisy!
