Leventhal Back in Action

A week after surgery for injuries sustained in a car accident, Montgomery Council member George Leventhal (D-At Large) was officially back in action on the dais this morning in Rockville.

After the incident, in which his car hit a deer on the Beltway, Leventhal told his colleagues, "You wonder are you fortunate or are you unfortunate?"

Leventhal turned 45 yesterday and as Thanksgiving approaches, he said he is grateful to have made it to this birthday.

"Although I am here and will be resuming a modified schedule, bear with me," he said. "I still am recovering and won't be quite as visible as I might have been prior to the accident."

Although today was Leventhal's first day back at the council building, he was busy Blackberrying from the hospital and returning calls from reporters and his aides throughout much of the ordeal.

In a unsettling coincidence last Friday, Council President Marilyn Praisner was also in a car accident near her home in Burtonsville. She is still recovering in the hospital this week, according to the council's spokesman Neil Greenberger.
