O'Malley Invites Olmert to Lunch

Fresh from his success at getting legislative leaders Mike Miller and Mike Busch to agree on taxes and slot machine gambling, Gov. Martin O'Malley is now dipping his toe into the Middle East peace process.

Technically it's just lunch: He's hosting the event to welcome Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and the Israeli delegation to Maryland and Annapolis for tomorrow's Middle East peace conference. He met the prime minister during a 2005 visit to Israel.

"It is an honor for the State of Maryland and the City of Annapolis to host this historic occasion," O'Malley said in a statement released today. "I want to welcome President Bush, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to the State of Maryland, and commend all parties involved with the peace conference tomorrow for their efforts to bring about a just and lasting peace in the Middle East."

In addition to the lunch, O'Malley plans to meet with Jewish and Muslim organizations tomorrow, as well as his own Commission of Middle Eastern American Affairs, which he created in an executive order last month.

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold is offering his own welcome: a sign reading "Smooth Sailing to Peace" that he's unveiling this evening. The sign will be displayed in front of the Arundel Center at the corner of Northeast and Calvert Streets.

"Since Anne Arundel County is home of Annapolis, the sailing capital of the world, we hope this venue will provide the medium for smooth sailing to peace," Leopold said in a statement.

Let's get one thing straight. It was the Naval Academy (not Annapolis) that was chosen for this venue for security reasons and its proximity to Washington. I knew it was only a matter of time before O'Malley started taking credit for bringing the parties to the table.

When you've got a legislature that will pass your unprecedented tax increase in 10 days without so much as a debate, I guess you've got time to solve the crisis in the Middle East.

Running again and courting Jewish money and voters?

Too stupid to realize that if he wishes results he might want to show some balance?

No time to lunch with anyone Arab? Most of the people there are Arab...

I'm sick with O'Malley. Next election, I hope the dems put someone who is a genuine liberal, and not some lieberman wannabe. The governor of maryland should only be concerned about one group of people....the people of maryland. hey O'Malley...get a clue from Kaine on how to run a state.

Shame on Martin O'Malley for having lunch with this war criminal who dropped cluster bombs on innocent civilians in Lebanon last summer. Why would O'Malley connect Maryland to this killer of the innocent and destroyer of Lebanese and Palestinian infrastructure? Olmert is one of the monsters of our time whom no decent person should want to publicly associate with.

I wish that dreamy Martin would take Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to see a performance of O'Malley's March. When Martin straps on his cute little guitar and starts prancing around onstage in that HOT, tight, black, sleeveless muscle-shirt, I would have to assume that anyone would want to negotiate a peace settlement. I know it drives me crazy enough that I want to press up against the stage and toss Martin my panties!

A lunch date with Olmert is like a second place prize to O'Malley. His real envy is Vladimir Putin.

The level of pathetic from the O'Malley haters on this blog are really approaching unprecedented levels.

Please, for all of our sanity, pour yourselves a drink, go to a movie, and get a damned life.

Hangingchad,

Please inform the great residents of MD what Mr. O'Malley has done for this state?

- Baltimore was a scary place to visit during his term as mayor (and still is) despite the development growth
- O'Malley just passed a tax hike that will chase high-tech education and jobs from Maryland with his "computer services" tax increase (what happened to taxing lawyers?)

Please, let us know what you think his positive contributions have been to us? I have yet to see a tangible benefit of his "public service." I think hate is too strong a word... Angry is much more like it.

ANY Govenor of a state hosting high profile talks in his/her state capital would invite some / many folks to lunch or such. Stop using this article to bash O'Malley on things unrelated to the story . . . . please.

I must agree with the last post...most Americans eat lunch. Why deny O'Malley lunch and while were at it...why deny Olmert lunch. Are they supposed to go on a fast just to please the MD GOP?

BTW, I heard a rumor that even Bob Erlich eats lunch.

I have to question the timing with this. Could it be that Olmert wanted to get this out of the way before O'Malley's new tax increase (which includes hotel stays) goes into effect Jan 1st?

Maryland is run as a vassal state of Israel with puppet O'Malley doing their bidding.

Track and trace every Marylander, sell off our infrastructure to foreign corporations, and pick every pocket clean for his Likud agenda.

Yes, Olmert is a war criminal on par with the likes of Heinz Kissinger and Cheney and associates. Nice company you keep O'Malley our dieboldselected governor.
