Coming Up In Maryland Politics

Local school system officials go to Annapolis on Wednesday to plead their case for state funding to build new schools and repair old ones before the influential Board of Public Works, which consists of Gov. Martin O'Malley (D), Comptroller Peter Franchot (D), and Treasurer Nancy Kopp (D).

Today, Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) will tour Bladensburg High School with County Executive Jack Johnson (D). The visit will take place at 10:30 a.m. at 4200 57th Avenue Bladensburg.

The Prince George's Democratic Central Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday to recommend a candidate to fill the 47th district state senate seat, vacated with the death of Sen. Gwendolyn T. Britt. The meeting will be held at Prince George's Ballroom, 2411 Pinebrook Avenue, Landover.

The County Council's health and human services committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with the planning, housing and economic development committee to discuss the homeless. They will meet on the 7th floor of the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville.

There is an election on February 12. Britt's seat should have been filled by the voters in that election, not by a few people on the Central Committee.
