Coming Up in Maryland Politics

Coming up this week in Maryland politics:

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY

A special election will be held Tuesday in County Council District 5, in the central part of the county, when Democrat Andrea Harrison, a former Prince George's County Council staffer will face Republican Steven W. Johnson in the heavily Democratic area.

The seat has been open since David C. Harrington (D) was elevated to the state Senate in February after the death of Sen. Gwendolyn T. Britt. The district stretches from the northeast D.C. border through Cheverly and into Mitchellville. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Here is what is NOT coming up in Montgomery County:

Don Praisner has refused to debate his opponent tonight on the county's largest cable TV political station Channel 21. Praisner has said he had a "prior event," but would not say what that "event" was.
What could be more important to the highly educated electorate of Montgomery County than a candiodate debate one week before the election?

Praisner ducked the April 9 Northwood-Four Corners Citizens Assoc. candidate forum.

Praisner ducked the April 16 Ashton Town Meeting.

Praisner ducked the April 26 ICC protest.

Praisner ducked the April 28 Wheaton Library forum on crime and gangs attended by councilman An drews and Chief Manger.

Praisner ducked the April 30 Wheaton Redevelopment Prigram meeting on amendments to the Wheaton Sector Plan in the Gilchrest Center.

In short, Praisner has been a half-time lame duck seat-warmer candidate and will be the same as a councilman.

Also, Praisner has a long new scar on his forehead which was heavily bandaged during a recent Channel 8 interview. He owes us a public explanation about that too.

By contrast, hard-working Fennel has been omnipresent. I saw him at the Glenmont Metro at 6:30 a.m. today.

It is only logical that if a candidate ducks his opponent in debate and misses important meetings even before he is elected, he will duck his constituents after belong in office too.

Attention PGC voters. Please think before you vote today. Its time to kill the machine of "hook me up" politics.

Steven W. Johnson has a new direction and vision for the county.
