From the Floor: Meet Your Delegate
Katina Rojas Joy is a Maryland alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention who will be blogging for Maryland Moment from Denver. She is from Prince George's County.
My name is Katina Rojas Joy, a New Yorker who now calls Maryland home. Why Barack? He honed his chops as a community organizer, worked with the Puerto Rican community after graduating from Columbia University, an intellectual, and a new kind of politician who was espousing hope. I was interested.
My Clinton ties ran deep. I supported Hillary's senate race, and first heard her speak at the 1995 UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. I'd reached an impasse.
On my own tab I flew to Obama's campaign headquarters and attended Camp Obama. I learned all I could about the Senator, the democratic and electoral process, including the daunting caucuses. My vote was cast!
Back home I reached out to local and national Obama supporters and got to work. Phone banking, translating, volunteering, fundraising, Latino outreach, promotion, I did it all.
A year a half later, this Yankee fan is a Denver bound delegate with an impressive list of new friends I met along the way and lots of hope.

An intellectual doesn't say "ah" ten times a minute. Hussein Obama is an Affirmative Action candidate. He smokes cigarettes, which make him an addict. Do you really want an addict as POTUS?
