First Lady Praises MoCo Woman

Montgomery County got a shout out from first lady Laura Bush last week during a speech at the Service8Nation Summit in New York City.

In her remarks, Bush told the story of Della Stolsworth, who works with Senior Corps' Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

Stolsworth "pioneered an effort" at Montgomery's Volunteer Center that connects retired professionals to local nonprofit groups, Bush said.

"Nonprofit service organizations in her community are saving thousands of dollars in consulting fees," Bush said, according to a transcript from the event, meant to inspire more citizens to participate in community service.

"Volunteers Della assisted are using the skills they learned over a lifetime career. As Della explains it, some retirees don't just want to play golf."
