Porcari's Nomination for Deputy Transportation Sec. Advances

Maryland transportation secretary John D. Porcari's nomination to become deputy U.S. transportation secretary was approved today by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, a committee staffer said. A full Senate vote on his nomination has not been scheduled.

Porcari, 50, is serving his second tour as Maryland's transportation secretary. He oversees the state's highways, transit systems, two airports, freight rail and the Baltimore port. As deputy U.S. transportation secretary, he would oversee the agency's day-to-day operations.
