Franchot to Tweet From Public Works Meeting

If you're seeking up-to-the-minute news of the proceedings at tomorrow's meeting of the state Board of Public Works, your prayers are answered. Comptroller Peter Franchot and his staff plan to send Twitter messages on the morning's events.

In a press release this afternoon, Franchot invites interested Marylanders to visit his Twitter page and sign up for free instant missives from the Board of Public Works.

The panel charged with approving state contracts consists of Franchot, Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) and Treasurer Nancy Kopp (D). Its business is vital to the operations of state government. But most transactions border on the arcane. A case in point on tomorrow's agenda: A proposed amendment to the lease of 16,055 sq. feet of the second and third floors of Camden Station at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

Twitterers also may --or may not --want to follow the approval of a $3.5 million service contract for Somatic Health Physican Services at selected juvenile facilities, another item on the 15-page agenda.
