Mikulski to Brief Reporters on Ankle En Route to Hill
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), who has been recovering from a severely broken ankle, is scheduled to address this reporters at a Baltimore medical center this morning before returning to Capitol Hill to vote on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor as a Supreme Court Justice.
Mikulski underwent surgery at Mercy Medical Center on July 27 to repair her ankle, which she broke in three places after slipping on stairs while leaving church. Her staff says she has been undergoing intensive physical therapy since then.
Staff from Mercy Medical Center are scheduled to appear at the 11:30 a.m. news conference with Mikulski, who is up for re-election next year.
UPDATE: Mikulski's surgeon predicted a "full recovery" for the senator, who said she would cast her vote for Sotomayor's confirmation. Hours later, she and Maryland colleague, Sen. Benjaimin L. Cardin, both did just that.
