Hey, Isn't That Warren Miller?

Some careful readers of Sunday's Washington Post recognized the guy in the photo on A12, decked out in shorts and a T-shirt, carrying the "Liar Liar Pants on Fire!" sign at Saturday's "Taxpayer March on D.C."

taxprotest.jpgIt's Warren E. Miller, a Republican state delegate from Howard County.

The first thing Miller pointed out to us: "It's my buddy's sign."

Miller said he carried the homemade sign for a friend for no more than five minutes, which happened to be the time Post photographer Ricky Carioti captured the image.

But he's still happy to defend it.

The sign, Miller said, is not meant to suggest that President Obama is a liar but to "make fun of the whole exchange" from last week's presidential address that included the now-famous "You lie" retort from Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.).

In his speech, the president questioned the veracity of the opponents of his health care plan, Miller noted.

"He basically says his opponents are lying, but no one is asking for him to apologize," Miller said. "I would characterize this whole thing as a playground argument."

Warren Miller - WOW, what a response. Does state delegate Miller have so little respect for us that he would tell that story. The sign was intended "to make fun of the whole exchange." And republicans want to call others liars! Too funny.

Are there any Republicans with any dignity?
8 years of murder, torture, and failure, and now even more child-like behavior. Truly, the world's worst people.

Typical costume for a Republican clown: fat, white, OLD, hypocrite with a mustache carrying a sign that could be used to describe HIM regarding the situation surrounding him carrying that sign and what it means. How ironic. What a bafoon.

You people are a bunch of f'ing morons. Not only did the Congressional Research Office AGREE with Joe Wilson's suggestion that Obama wasn't telling the truth about the healthcare bill providing benefits to illegals, but Congress has now begun taking another look at the very loopholes that inspired the outburst in the first place. If the Dems could pull their collective heads out of Obama's @ss, they might be able to regain their objectivity.

Islandhopper, the Congressional Research Office said NO SUCH THING. The reports states that Illegal Immigrants can PURCHASE Insurance from the Exchange but they are BARRED FROM GETTING FEDERAL SUBSIDIES. You are the one that needs to pull your Head out of your A***

Well that's great on paper but when you don't require any verification of residency then HOW ARE YOU GOING TO ENFORCE IT YOU MORONIC DIPSH!T??? I guess the honor system is fine with you?? Do you really think a group of people who are only here because of their dishonesty will suddenly adhere to the provisions in the bill if there are no requirements to verify eligibility? Do you think that might be why they're taking another look at the verification requirements Einstein??? Like I said, pull your head out of Obamas @sshole you moronic lemming.

Posted by: islandhopper24 | September 14, 2009 3:17 PM | Report abuse

If Wilson is so sure OBama is lying about imigrants and healthcare, why dosn't Wilson get up on the House floor and explain what the heck he's talking about? And to all you immigrant haters, in your world is it all right to leave someone who's been injured in a car accident by the side of the road cause they can't prove they're here legally? And in case you wingnuts don't know it, OBama dosn't havea "a bill" on health care in Congress. What is being discussed on The Hill are bills that have been sponsored by your own Representatives or Senators.

Posted by: VikingRider | September 14, 2009 3:58 PM | Report abuse

Hey islandhopper, If Obama says that he wants Health care with no provision for illegals, but one or more of the proposed bills does not currently have iron-clad, maybe even extra-iron-clad verification requirements to appease the irrational demonizers, and the Congressional Research Office agrees that there are still loopholes, how does that make Obama a liar? It may make him wrong about what exists at the moment, although that wasn't what he was talking about, but it certainly doesn't make him a liar; there was no apparent attempt to deceive.

The salient point is that the joint session of Congress was the wrong forum for Wilson to express his unsubstantiated charge, and that this very partisan, right-wing demonstration was an inappropriate venue for Warren Miller, since he is an elected State Delegate. He is unfortunately my state delegate, and I would expect better from him than to be carrying a sign aloft, whether his or someone else's that calls the President of the United States a liar. It is an unfair charge that he cannot substantiate, and his actions, and Wilson's show that neither has any place in the Legislatures they serve in. They both lack the maturity, the honesty, or the character to serve in an elected capacity. Both should be ashamed for participating in today's rightwing brainwashing assault on the people, either as brainwashers, or possibly brainwashees. Their dishonest, manipulative demonizing should bring an end to both their careers in politics.

VikingRider, three words for you, Hooked on Phonics.

tmcguffin, keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

You two aren't just tools, you're the whole friggin tool box.

The fact of the matter is, if it weren't for the detractors, these provisions wouldn't have been given a second thought.

islandhopper, Where's the justification for the kool-aid comment? Can you substantiate anything you say? The "detractors" would be raising the exact same issues in the Finance Committee, and certainly later in the joint committee, before Obama would even get the opportunity to disappoint you. You have nothing but ad hominem invective to offer. I believe it is irresponsible for a citizen to allow him/herself to be brainwashed and recruited by political interests whose objective it is to misinform, divide and manipulate people with scare tactics and demonization. You seem to have fallen for it - all hyperbole and no facts to back you up.

I stand by what I said. If Wilson calls the President of the United States a liar in front of the world, Wilson has to go before his colleagues and PROVE IT. Whining and blabbering on right wing talk shows dosn't cut it. And can some of you wingnuts explain, under your Draconian rules, if only people who can prove they are US citizens qualify for health care, what are the ambulance crews supposed to do when they respond to a car wreck and the injured people are unconscious? Just leave them by the road side?

tmcguffin,
Didn't you run to be Delegate in Howard County?

Posted by: avghocojoe | September 14, 2009 9:37 PM | Report abuse

Can't we get along? How about this. Deport all 36,000,000 illegal aliens, now we don't have to worry about them stealing Communist Health Care. Cut the social programs until we pay off the National debt. Once we are debt free, we will have enough tax money to be able to drastically cut taxes, put up a safety net for the underclass, and give health care to all employed Americans. With our new surplus we can rebuild our military to the point where no country on this small rock will ever think about crossing us anywhere, anytime. Then and only then can there be true Peace! Now, why don't we actually do this?

Posted by: old1 | September 15, 2009 7:31 AM | Report abuse

Why are the Democrats wasting time on Rep. Joe Wilson today when they should be working on ruining our Heatlh Care system? And tmcguffin aren't you the partisan hack that attacked George Bush for eight years.

I don't live in Warren's district, but I really appreciate him representing my views both in Annapolis and in Washington. I'm sure he had many other things he could have been doing on Saturday, but he chose to make his voice heard in Washington. Many of us should learn from his example!

Are you really this dumb? The Democrats were fully aware of the loopholes because there were more than 4 proposed amendments offered by the Republicans to close them and they were all opposed. It wasn't until the public fury reached the full boiling point and Obozo backed himself into a corner that the Dems said to themselves "Oh crap!, They're not falling for it. We better take another look at those loopholes. If even one illegal alien receives benefits, Obozo WILL be a liar instead of just mistating the facts." You know damn well that's how it played out, I'm sure you're not that stupid. Awfully funny how they are now looking into closing the very loopholes that caused the controversy in the first place when they wouldn't even acknowledge there was a problem before. Before being labeled a liar on national television, The Democrats INSISTED that the issue of illegals was already addressed and there was no need for any additional amendments to the proposed bill. SO WHY THE CHANGE NOW MORON???? Again, are you really that stupid? On second thought, nevermind.

islandhopper, man, you're really abusive in your language. Again you fail to substantiate a single one of your cynical ideas. And the name-calling; "Moron." Really? The fact is that bills are in negotiation, Obama has expressed some of what he wants. He hasn't lied about anything. Baucus's bill prohibits illegal alien's participation; the only change the Democrats made was to add possibly redundant language to appease the lunatic fringe who won't be satisfied with anything.
I wish the Democrats would stop appeasing the lunatic fringe; I don't think it's doing much good.

You're very offensive in your argument, Shrill, even. I think that you are a part of what's wrong with America today. It's irresponsible for you to be so cynical, hateful, and demonizing in your discourse, and for being so blatantly divisive. I won't spend any more time with you. I don't respect your opinion. You have betrayed yourself as one who takes a belligerent pride in his ignorance, and finds it necessary to broadcast it.

I hope my last posting finally shows up. Enjoy.

You're an idiot. How much more detail do you want? A taped confession from Nancy Pelosi? If the revisions they are now considering were redundant and unnecessary but to 'appease the lunatic fringe', as you put it, then why did the Congressional Research Office agree that there were loopholes in the bill that would allow illegals to obtain benefits? I guess the Congressional Research Office is a lunatic fringe organization by your logic? Get a clue. You're probably still defending ACORN now that 4 tapes have dropped....... and counting. Like I said before, enjoy the Kool-Aid.
