O'Malley Announces New Deputy Transportation Secretary

Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) has appointed a former senior manager with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to serve as deputy secretary for the Department of Transportation.
Harold M. Bartlett succeeds Beverley Swaim-Staley, whom O'Malley last week promoted to secretary of the Department of Transportation, making her the first woman to lead one of the Maryland government's largest agencies.
Bartlett now serves as deputy executive secretary of the Maryland Transportation Authority.
From 1997 to 2006, he was secretary and chief of staff at WMATA, where he was responsible for the oversight of financial operations, government and labor relations, security, information technology and customer relations, O'Malley's office said.
