Live in Pr. George's: Taxi Task Force Introduced
Though it fell with a thud among some cab drivers last week when she first brought it up, Pr. George's County Council Chairwoman Marilynn M. Bland just introduced a resolution to form a "task force," designed to take a look at the local cab industry.
Cab drivers in the county have recently threatened to strike if their concerns over current work conditions aren't heard. Many cab drivers say only a handful of large companies own the bulk of county-issued cab certificates, and then charge drivers inordinate prices to use them.
Bland told drivers at a public hearing last week that she planned to form a task force to study the issue, but one driver speaking for his colleagues said action was needed, not study.
Meanwhile, other council members have proposed legislation to amend the county code to alter the licensing system.
